Epic on scale!
cthirlby7 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was absolutely fantastic throughout! Love the nostalgic and epic intros for these last episodes, this one was different with some name drops, it feels epic and like a send off. More character development from Negan and a on screen relationship with Ezekiel which I didn't expect would be such a rich bunch of scenes with great dialogue exchanges between both. These last few episodes with have given Negan some very progressive character development. Did not expect Lydia to get bit that was crazy and unexpected, I really hope she is okay as she was one of my favourites from the whisperer arc and want her to have her dynamic with Daryl again. Seeing the variant walkers really come into play is insane! After watching the show for so long and seeing them be slow and weak it adds to the scariness and thrill of seeing these different versions, it also leaves hype and more thrill for future projects. The variants and the way they are doing them is well written and intense, watching these characters literally in shock from what they are seeing is enough to give goosebumps. And now the main event... Pamela shooting Judith, the whole shootout event is well done and when Judith gets shot it leaves you in shock and on the edge of your seat! As everyone notices and comes together as a family to protect as they all shoot in a furious gunfire! I'm so excited for the finale. This episode was epic on scale with the variants and tension. Even though they are wrapping up the commonwealth as a story I'm glad they are really going in on these variants and presenting them as scary as they truly are. Can't wait!

This episode hurts me in a lot of ways
justdan20237 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ok, what did I just watch? This episode is everything! Also, this episode is just twisting my heart. Like really, I feel every emotions here.

They showed us the walker variants, Eugene becoming badass after a while since season 9, Judith getting shot, Ezekiel Negan heart-to-heart conversation, Lydia getting bit, the walkers breaching into Commonwealth, some more walker variant stuff, the group getting together once more and Pamela being a villain like I always wanted her to be! Even though she feels horrible after shooting Judith.

Furthermore, I am just going to note Cassady McClincy's acting right here. It's superb and so natural. It tore my heart to see her in pain like that. So hats off to her!

I can't wait for the finale! Let me repeat that in caps lock. I CANT WAIT FOR THE FINALE!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

A walking dead episode
ElvisSavir7 November 2022
Finally...., this is by far the best episode of S11 Part III, I think this will make you feel excited about the series finale.

Next episode promises a lot of zombies, some major character deads, and maybe one or two comebacks.

This episode feels like a final season, I think they lost a lot of time, this was what I was waiting for, the real antagonist we needed are the walkers, at the end, this is what everybody should be scared of in a show like this.

This episode reminds me of S2 finale, which for me, was one of the best episodes of the entire show.

Andrea came to my mind as one character that could be so awesome but they didnt gave her enough time.

Now I am rooting for Rosita and Aaron. Does anyone else think they would make a great duo for a new TWD show?

Emotional and terrifying
specularpotato7 November 2022
This episode was amazing! It really reminded me of the older TWD days with the way I was nervous the entire episode. The acting, music, and writing was some of the best of the entire show, and I can't wait to see how they wrap this up!

One of the best parts of this season has been the parallels to the earlier seasons. If you look closely, tons of scenes parallel older TWD scenes and it's so well done! It does a great job of subtly emphasizing the character arcs that have come full circle since the previous seasons of the show. Negan, Judith, and Lydia stand out with their parallels in this episode.

ASTONISHING, ONE MORE TO GO.
stefanosglou6 November 2022
What an episode! I must admit, this one genuinely reminded me of what the series is all about, as it took me back to the good old days when the show first came out. There's elements of family (like the title suggests), strength, unity, grief, closure all they way to greed and selfishness that are being utilized in a proper way and actually play a significant role within the story. Meaning there's a lot of emotions going on all at once, just before the big finale. It's the exact same formula we grew up on since the very beginning and witnessed again when the show reached its peak.

As far as the writing goes, they did an incredible job and proved to have found the spark that was missing these last couple of seasons, which I'm extremely happy about. The dialogues are top-notch, making you feel very intrigued and invested in the story, unlike the previous episodes of the season. And the drama, especially during those last three minutes of the episode, will go down as one of the most intense moments of the show, (right on par with the ending of season 6). The atmosphere has been set, and judging from the trailer, we're looking forward to an action packed and 'final' finale of the show after 12 amazing years. Very impatient to see what happens, prepared for the final ride, and here's hoping that it doesn't disappoint...

The Day Everything Changed Forever
tristan_196 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode might be divisive giving how much stuff the show still has to wrap up. However, it was still a masterclass in many aspects. Judith Grimes also just cemented herself as one of the best characters of TWD.

The music, tension and cinematography are outstanding and provide the feels at every turn. If you value the characters above most things, this episode will definitely be an all timer for you. Lydia is great and Cassady McClincy does an amazing job. Negan and Ezekiel have a great talk, and Tyler Davis apologizes to Princess.

Judith goes as a freaking hero and wants to go on the mission to honor Rick, Carl, Lori and Michonne. Mercer still helps Eugene, but the mega herd closes in. Eugene defends himself like a pro, and the group gets to Union Station, which ends up being a trap, because Pamela put two and two together earlier about Mercer.

During the fight, Judith gets shot protecting Maggie and Daryl lifts her up and carries her in his arms. It packs so much emotion and calls back to when Rick carried Carl in his arms in 2x02. Getting out, our survivors face an unexpected threat, as the mega herd entered the community. The troopers put road blocks and everyone is cornered like in No Way Out or Thank You.

The tension builds higher and walkers come from every side, with variants in the mix. But Daryl pushes through and Judith utters a mild ¨Daddy¨, leaving us hanging. The episode came together like a puzzle, with moving pieces across the boards, but everything led to this moment.

Great episode
ajchand-071868 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The episode was just great. Judith being shot while saving Maggie was just great. Maggie saved Judith's life because she probably would have died before birth if it wasn't for Maggie. Now Judith saved Maggie's life. The writing in this episode was great. I wasn't bored. Even when I was bored they made me unbored really quick. Really felt like old the walking dead. The acting in this episode was also amazing. The way Pamela looked after she realized she shot judith was great acting. And Daryl's reaction to Judith being shot was great too. Most people who write 1 star reviews on this are just annoyed on how long the show has been going on.

We hope for a great ending
jjo-682779 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Thinking like Angela:

I have the end of a series with the greatness of the Todd, the main characters are all protected by higher orders from the channel, I will kill big characters like Aaron, Gabi or Rosita, but.....

But does killing them cause a huge commotion and give the ending a not natural momentum? It will be a legendary event, but Mo Zi killed a main character.

So who are the rest of the characters that I can kill and make an event that will be the iconic end of a series the size of the walking dead???? He killed Rick's daughter and the audience's most loved character, Judith. .....

I haven't feel that for a long time !
ahmedeldressi9 November 2022
GOOSEBUMPS all the time and I didn't want it to finish, amazing episode and one of the best.

Everything was great literally everything.

This is The Walking Dead i used to watch , but I'm still wondering how they will fix all that in one episode only.

I feel there is something very wrong with this season but to be honest I'm glad and satisfied with this one!

Many surprising moments and the events accelerated so fast with the soundtrack and all i had goosebumps i swear and it was amazing because I haven't feeling this way in the series , I can't remember when was the last time it felt like this, Thank you!

Best Episode of Season 11
jesushasrisen6 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has what TWD isn't very good at having recently, stakes.

Nobody feels invincible. Lydia is bit and nearly dies resulting in her losing her arm. Judith is shot and although I think she'll live, I never for a second thought she was going to feel a bullet during the entire firefight. They set up the former Commonwealth soldier as a potential side characters for what little is left of the show and any potential spinoffs but then kill him out of nowhere (but in a good way). This episode is most impressive because it has no major deaths but our characters haven't felt this mortal in a long time.

On top of that, the variant Walkers factor into the plot. I was worried that they were just being used as set up for a spin off but to my delight they actually factor into the plot and it looks like they'll be important in the last episode.

The episode does end on a bit of a cliffhanger and unfortunately the trailer for the next episode reveals that the characters survive but I can say that I'm interested in seeing how this will all rap up and hopefully Pamela will get what she has coming to her.

A step-up from previous episodes of S11 P3
anctaysucks9 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
While Season 11 isn't top notch most of the time, It has it's peaks. This is a great example of one of those peaks. The plot, pacing, writing, acting, and the walkers. For the first time since last season walkers have been a threat just as big as the Commonwealth.

The last ~25 minutes of this episode are probably the best since Season 9. The separate storylines from P3, such as Aarons group or Maggie's group, all connecting really paid off for this episode. The overall execution of Judith's shooting was extremely well done, especially the character reactions and responses. Judith got shot doing what Carl died doing, which was just mentioned earlier in the episode, saving people. The of parallel of Daryl carrying Judith to Rick carrying a shot Carl way back in Season 2 really brings you back. Overall, a great episode and I hope 11x24 is just as good, if not better.

Unconvincing
JimLi202218 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Been watched the show more than 10 years and been loving this show, but the unconvincing plots in this episode is about to ruin the ending:

1. Troopers are wayyyyy to close when redirecting the herds. This also happens in many previous episodes. There is even a scene when a walker just touches the trooper sitting in the car and that trooper has to get rid of the walker's hands.

2. Lydia got bitten for no reason. His boyfriend can always circle back to the RV when herds walk away later but she is acting like he will be torn apart by walkers in the next second.

3. Trooper's armor showed no protection from the walker. I get it that walkers are getting 'more clever' and know how to take off a helmet. But this helmet is just taken off way too easy. And the captial trooper on the tower who supposes to have a great amount of training is just panic like a civilian.

4. Judtih is shot. I know that it is about the end of this show and things will happen to some main characters. I'm also OK that Judith is one of them. What I don't like is this poor execution. Pamala who just walks out from her office 'happens' to have a clear shot to Maggie and Judith as a teenager 'happens' to notice it during the chaos and walks out her shelther to take the bullet. It doesn't sound convincing to me.

There is only one episode left. I hope that stories will roll out in a more convincing way. Crazy things can happen but they should happen in a natural way.

WD Comic Reader and Longtime fan
umichjal15 November 2022
I've said this before over and over - the show should have ended seasons ago but AMC wouldn't let it go. The only saving grace would have been evolving the walkers which FD opened the door in season 1 and squat since then on it. The storylines are recycled again and again with little direction in these last seasons. In addition, this show moves best when the core team was on the move and constantly trying to find a new place to survive. This pretend the world is ok makes no sense, as every time they setup shop (cough cough) another threat magically pops up. I am hoping the mini series spin-offs provide deeper storylines and smarter progression of the WD universe. Evolving walkers that are already falling apart is 10 years to late.

Loved It, Still Confused About The Troopers
ciudadcity7 November 2022
The armor of the troopers has the worst writing. Why are they even wearing that if it doesn't safe you from walkers at all? Plus, the herd entered the Commonwealth way too fast. The army must've had enough time to clear the walkers. But other than that... I loved this episode. Our group is so badass in this! I'm a bit nervous for the finale though. They didn't finish the Commonwealth arc in this penultimate episode, which I hoped for. So let's see what they bring to the table next week.

Btw, I really love Eugene as a character ever since season 9. Josh portrays him so well! "Family" was another great episode for him!

This episode was good, but...
andrewcleveland-7894711 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
No matter how good the episodes are, we need Rick back without Rick this show will not have a satisfying ending. They should have just killed him if they aren't going to bring him back for the main show. We shouldn't have to watch a spin off to get the conclusion of a main character for the show. I can understand spin offs of side characters and side story's but a spin off of the main character that literally made the walking dead isn't cutting it for anyone. Based off this episode despite how good it is this is way more of a mid season episode there's way too much to finish for there to only be one episode left. And it's really looking like we won't be seeing Rick again in this show. I know I speak for all the die hard fans who've been watching for a decade. We won't be satisfied without Rick.

A Good Walking Dead Episode, But A Really Weird Penultimate Episode
MamadNobari976 November 2022
With all the time they've had in this season and the slow progression of the Commonwealth storyline, you'd think they rush these couple of final episodes so we could get over with it, but nope, they're going as slow as the rest of the season pertaining to the Commonwealth stuff.

This makes me believe we're not gonna get to see the characters we've all been wanting to see for the last 2 seasons and they're just gonna end the whole show with the Commonwealth storyline which I have predicted a long time ago.

That's not to say this episode is bad, not at all. This episode is probably one of the best of season 11 and has some great moments and surprising ones too. The climbing walkers finally have something to do in this show and do actual damage after they were introduced and forgotten for a bit. The troopers don't act like the idiots they were in previous episodes (minus Outpost 22), and the writing overall is decent and no one really does dumb stuff, except maybe for Lydia. But I guess expected more from the penultimate episode and more like what this episode tells me the finale is gonna be like.

So I won't go into details now as I wait to see what the finale will be, what they will do in there, and if they way they ended the show was satisfying or not and will write a more in-depth and longer review then.

The penultimate episode builds towards an explosive finale, ending up being a great and memorable episode in its own sense
Holt34414 November 2022
The premise of episode 11.23 titled "Family": Mercer secretly brings Eugene to Max and Yumiko. He is said to be hiding in an apartment until further action has been clarified. Meanwhile, a group led by Maggie, Negan and Daryl take the train to take down Pamela for good. They bring the missing people back to the Commonwealth. There, an angry crowd is already protest in front of Pamela's office and demanding. Magali Lozano & Erik Mountain & Kevin Deiboldt penned the script for 11.23 and they brought the writing back to how it should be, the dialogue felt natural and overall well written, excellent even. The episode uses the big budget wisely, making it brilliant both technically and the acting and so on, the camera work are brilliant and visually a great episode, an overall impressive production. There's so many shots in this episode that are brilliantly shot, such a stunning looking episode, it felt like The Walking Dead again.

Sharat Raju directed "Family" and being a recurring director for both TWD and Fear, he knows the actors and universe quite well so the visual storytelling is all great. Raju's vision and direction were truly amazing, bringing his skills and experience to a show that currently needs it. His work on the episode are surely one of the highlights. The cinematography and the other departments, especially the makeup and special effects departments, were as always top notch. The attention to detail and all the shots in the nature, they nailed it on the camera side of things. The cinematography is once again breathtaking and incredible, just right for the show, the way it was shot and so on, simply brilliant. The sets were detailed and perfect, and so are the art and production design. I also found the effects to be fantastic in this episode, practical effects always makes it so more real, and The Walking Dead is known for their practical effects and they didn't let us down for this episode. Superb sound design and a musical score both gripping and dramatic. It's one of many things on the technical side of things that the show succeeds perfectly with.

The Commonwealth arc have had its ups and downs but I'll have to admit, I really liked this episode. I thought it was great. But I still don't agree it's the right direction for the show, it could have focused on something bigger like they've been building towards. This is the penultimate episode of the final season of the entire show, it doesn't feel like it, there is much more unpredictability but also much more tension and suspension in the episode. It doesn't feel big enough. I've written how the Commonwealth have evolved into a military-state, leaning more and more into fascism. It's brilliant really, believable too. I think Pamela Milton is a great character but underused and could have been used better if Angela Kang would have went a different direction with being bigger. The universe of The Walking Dead is now big with CRM but haven't been used at all, I think that was a bad choice from Angela Kang but especially Scott Gimple who surely calls all the shots.

Episode 11.23 has most if not the whole cast in it, it feels like an old episode of The Walking Dead. I think this was one of the better episodes of Part C, it offered us some superb drama, character interactions that keeps you engaged, and a well shot action sequence but also multiple zombie scenes for everyone who likes zombies. I just love the scenes with Ezekiel and Negan, those two actors and characters together in a scene, makes for some fine drama and terrific performances. The scene with Aaron and Lydia was also extremely well written, brilliantly acted by the two. The passion in Ross Marquand's performance is visible and I think his performance in this season have been one of the better ones. Some other performances who I think deserve some praise are Laila Robins who completely nailed her performance as Pamela Milton, what might be her best performance in the season. But let's talk about "Family" and what that episode title mean for the episode, a lot if not everything, but mostly of the Grimes family and how Judith want their legacy to remain and make her deceased brother proud, a character who shouldn't have died. Cailey Fleming have been great as Judith Grimes and continues in that direction in this episode, I'm glad she got more screen time, finally. Norman Reedus and Cailey Fleming have such perfect chemistry and you really notice how their relationship are on and off screen, it's wonderful really. I'm looking forward to the series finale, I wish, I hope that they won't fail the show. We deserve a great ending, we deserve an unsafe episode of The Walking Dead with risk and tension, an episode with the audience on the edge of their seats, an episode worth talking about like Andrew Lincoln's last episode "What Comes After". But we need a finale that's grandios, the penultimate was far from grandios. But for season 11, "Family" is incredible and engaging from start to finish, one of the season's best episodes.

Probably the Best Episode of the Eleventh Season
claudio_carvalho25 January 2024
Gabriel asks Tyler Davis whether he knows where the missing children are, but he doesn't know. In Commonwealth, Mercer brings Eugene to an empty apartment where Yumiko and Max are. They know that people are angry with the result of Eugene's trial, and they believe it is possible to have a rebellion against the corrupt government of Pamela Milton. A group goes with Daryl by train to Commonwealth, and Mercer is unable to join them at the Union Station as agreed with Princess. Pamela orders a group of soldiers loyal to her to bring a herd of walkers to Commonwealth to control the population, and Aaron and his group join the herd. When he sees an abandoned RV, he asks his friends to leave the crowd. However, Elijah, Luke and Julie do not succeed, and Lydia is bitten in her left arm by a walker. Mercer is trying to protect the gates of Commonwealth, but Pamela orders Vickers to arrest him and her soldiers do not guard the gate properly. Daryl and his people are trapped inside the Union State by Pamela's soldiers and Pamela hits Judith. They escape and Daryl brings the fainted girl on his arms looking for a hospital. But Pamela has ordered the soldiers to protect her neighborhood and leave the rest of the population of Commonwealth abandoned to their fate.

"Family" is the penultimate episode of "The Walking Dead", and probably the best episode of the Eleventh Season. My only but is the situation of Lydia, bitten at her arm, and now becoming handicapped. She is a nice and suffered character and her situation now without her arm is absolutely unnecessary. Pamela shows her claws and corruption, leaving the dwellers of Commonwealth to their own fate. Judith closing the doors after losing lots of blood and being unconscious for a ling period, is also ridiculous. My vote is nine.

Title (Brazil): "Family"

Great episode but it still has its flaws
samhinchliffe-7024114 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Why won't they kill anybody off this show? They wouldn't even kill off Lydia after she had been bitten. I mean she's hardly been in it and could easily be killed off. It's the next to last episode yet still we have no main character death this season. They could have shocked us earlier on in the season with a death or 2 as it's over soon. Probably because of all the money grabbing spin offs they can't. Then Daryl just stands there in plain site yet doesn't get shot.

But it was still a brilliant episode, it's just a shame this didn't come earlier on in the season. It was more like an 11B ending before 11C. As the whole of season 11 up to this point has just been dragged out with nothing happening. I'm not sure about this last episode, I feel it's going to be a cop out because of the spin offs.

Wow!!!
Scar3814 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What an amazing episode.

It had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish, and I was genuinely worried for all of the main characters.

The talk between Ezekiel and Negan was very well done, and made me think that Negan has truly changed, it especially made me laugh when Negan saw the walker climbing and said "what the ****" .

Then Eugene gives someone a spear and takes him out, go Eugene.

The two saddest parts for me are Lydia, who's acting was superb getting bitten, I hope she manages to pull through, and Judith getting shot, that shocked me a little bit, again I hope she will be ok. It's really nice that they are all coming together again as a "family" and looking out for each other.

I can't wait for the series finale, it's going to be feature length, and please bring back Rick and Michonne, they surely have to come back to save their family.

I guarantee that if that doesn't happen, the final episode will completely bomb.

Fingers crossed.

Warning: Spoilers
Stunning from start to finish. Great story line. Such a rollercoaster of an episode. Had me on the edge of my seat. As if it was not bad enough that Lydia got bit and had to have her arm amputated but then poor Judith is shot. Will she survive we shall have to wait and see. Some great scenes with Maggie and Negan. Finally Eugene shows he is no longer a coward a ends the life of one of the common wealth soldiers. To the people who continually bring the show down, why watch it. Not going to lie, I really am going to miss this show when it finally comes to an end but will be looking forward eagerly to the spin off shows.

Evolved walkers too late
avnrulz15 November 2022
It's been over 10 years in this universe and the walkers are deteriorating, but suddenly they are 'getting abilities'? Frank Darabont included it in S1, which made more sense, but to bring it back this far down the road is breaking the 'logic' of the universe. To bring up a critique mentioned by another writer, the 'armor' worn by the guards provides no protection from the walkers as we have seen over several episodes, including tonight's. The troopers from the CRM were obviously better trained in handling the walkers, and not bringing them into this series after the departure of Rick was a missed opportunity.

Lame
linchayes14 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The whole episode was pretty lame. Daryl allowing a little girl to go along to a gun battle?? Well, no one ever said the adults were good at parenting on The Walking Dead. And a dazed Lydia has a fit about her boyfriend being out there so Jerry goes searching for people that are long gone in a walker herd?? And why is Negan still around? Nobody even likes him, but yet they continue to hang out with him?? One episode left and so much going on, that it seems like the last episode will either be a rushed mess, or it will leave so much just hanging. And who keeps giving some of these lame episodes a TEN?

The Walking Dead, died before of the end
wrka-195-2999286 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Is this supposed to be a tv show about the survivors of the apocalypse, right?, because an "amazing" 23 episodes have passed and nobody dies, only the extras like a cheap movie. The last season of GoT was more daring than this mediocre show.

I could blame AMC's rock-bottom budget, which is evident in every episode, but many independent TV series and movies with much less budget than a "super production" have gone further and even won awards. I could blame the pandemic or even the actors, maybe it's a mix of everything, but it's not that, the problem is the writers.

The silly and predictable writing of each episode, such as now:

* Judith for the FIRST TIME goes with the group to finish off the drama with Pamela (the real writers reason?), so that she can get shot and thus provoque the mediocre climax moment in the episode, predictably.

* The commonwealth soldiers are incompetent throughout the whole season and specially this episode.

* The anticlimactic moment of Julie and Luke leaving the horde and smiling when they meet again with Connie and Kelly, (hey guys!! The commonwealth follows them, variant walkers and Judith injured!!) wtf that moment.

* The constant insistence on the part of Angela Kang to show Daryl as the "Bad Ass guy" the guy who "saves the day" the damn hero all the time, at the end of this season they don't even hide the favoritism with the character or actor, the truth Daryl barely speaks, I dont know why he should be so cool.

I'm fans of this series from the third season, and I just want this show end and today I realized that the series has died, not even with the return of the awesome Rick Grimes they can getting alive this series.

Positive things; The interaction of Negan and Ezekiel, Carol, Mercer.
