I am revisiting this show because I never got to finish it last time.
Pretty strong pilot.
Qualley is a strong enough actor to be able to carry the show on her own. I think she really understands her role based on how she decided to portray Alex. Alex looks stressed and all over the place (which she literally is) but we see glimpses of her love toward her child, Maddy in between moments. The sequence of events that's happening to her is catastrophic but not far from reality.
Digging the pacing. Pretty fast-paced for a rather dramatic subject. No slow burns.
Finding the pre-inflation prices slightly comedic. I don't think even in dollar stores, the prices are right.
I am guessing they must have consulted domestic violence victims to some extent because the gaslighting from Sean, the fact that she left with only 18 dollars, which could indicate impulsiveness, are all quite realistic. Not many victims have a predetermined plan when they decide to leave. I like the fact that there wasn't physical abuse but any sort of action that creates a dangerous environment is considered abuse. Love the depiction of a rather bs system.
Loving the pilot so far.
