A programming alert for today’s episode of General Hospital reveals that “Nina is hopeful”! We’re not sure exactly for what reason, but Nina (Cynthia Watros) might be hopeful that she’ll get through the day without being blamed for everything that’s ever gone wrong in Port Charles! Nina’s taken the fall for everything from the Lassa Fever outbreak (Iykyk) to being the drunk driver that crashed into B.J. Jones’s (Brighton Hertford) school bus. Okay, those are slight exaggerations but the fact is the Crimson magazine editor-in-chief takes a lot of flak for things that are simply not her fault! Case in point: Nina did not commit the insider trading that Drew (Cameron Mathison) did that sent him to prison. Sure, Nina knew that amnesiac “Mike” was truly Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) when she bumped into him in Nixon Falls, but Sonny purposely tossed his wedding...

This article contains spoilers for Shogun episode 10.
The characters of FX’s Shōgun know all about endings. After John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) experiences the first of many Japanese earthquakes in the miniseries’ fourth episode, his translator/lover Mariko (Anna Sawai) explains how her people have come to adapt to the environmental instability.
“It is why our houses are built to go up as quickly as they come down,” she says. “Because death is in our air. And sea and earth. It can come for us at any moment. Before you meddle with our politics, just remember … we live and we die. We control nothing beyond that.”
While Mariko-sama is right that a person can control nothing beyond living and dying, it turns out that one individual living or dying is enough to change everything. Mariko helped establish the future with her sacrifice in Shōgun‘s penultimate episode. Now it’s...

Shōgun masterminds Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo read James Clavell’s novel cover to cover. Their social media intake around the series, however, has not been quite as comprehensive.
“We live in Hawaii on the island of Maui with 70 chickens and roosters,” Marks tells The Hollywood Reporter. “And none of the chickens on our property have seen Shōgun, to our knowledge. So it’s been pretty quiet.”
“It’s not that quiet,” Kondo corrects, “but they’re not talking about Shōgun.”
Marks and Kondo’s chickens are just about the only ones not talking about Shōgun. The FX series has drawn to a close, and all season long, it’s been an internet darling, with incredible memes born out of the incredible show.
For instance, there’s an image floating around at the moment featuring Cosmo Jarvis and Anna Sawai as John Blackthorne and Lady Mariko, two...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Shōgun” Episode 10, “A Dream of a Dream,” including the ending.]
As a sweeping samurai epic, “Shōgun” understands it’s meant to end a certain way. Opposing parties draw swords, don their armor, and square off on the battlefield. Tensions teased over nine hours erupt in the roar of combat. That’s how grand conflicts regarding the future of great nations have been decided for centuries, and it’s only natural for a visual medium like film (or prestige television) to embrace war’s inherent spectacle. Soldiers charging down a hillside, canons firing across an open plain, horses galloping through fields filled with bodies either dead or clinging to life, as the grass under their feet quickly deteriorates into muddied, bloodied slop. These are the scenes we expect in an epic’s ending.
Because we’ve seen those images so many times — slain men strewn over blackened trenches — it’s easy...

There’s a saying in Osaka that every man has three hearts. One in his mouth for the world to know, another in his chest just for his friends, and a secret heart buried deep where no one can find it.
Well, regardless of how many hearts we have, each and every one of them loves FX’s epic miniseries Shōgun. The 10-episode historical series on Hulu and Disney+ is undoubtedly one of the best TV experiences of the year. Based on James Clavell’s classic 1975 novel of the same name, Shōgun follows wayward Englishman John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) as he washes ashore in Japan and becomes embroiled with a game of thrones waged among the fearsome Lord Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) and the villainous council of regents.
If you’re like us then you’ve not only been watching Shōgun but you’ve been watching it closely. But how closely exactly?...

Back in 1922 Campton Manor was the scene of an unexplained mass death, twenty-eight guests at a New Year’s party died of heart attacks at the same time. There was no trace of poison, and the case was never solved. The mansion has, needless to say, sat empty ever since.

Right now he’s more concerned with Jack. Despite his secretary’s best efforts, Jack keeps turning up in his office talking about Campton Manor, in fact he’s rather insistent that Teddy investigate it.

When it comes to the classics of cinema—and sometimes the dregs—it’s always fun to think about what might’ve been. Casting especially can be a strange alchemy between actor and role, and when the formula is off, it’s easy to ponder whether the spell would work at all. Can you imagine Robert Redford as Michael Corleone? What about Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones? And it’s an interesting challenge to envision what Tim Burton’s Batman might’ve been if it starred Bill Murray versus Robin Williams.
The casting of Neo in The Matrix is another legendary “what if?” in movie history. The 1999 classic, which just turned 25 years old earlier this month, is now beloved for its reinvention of Keanu Reeves. He plays Neo in the film; a former sad sack hacker who discovers he’s actually a superpowered messiah sent to free us from a digital prison.

This article contains spoilers for Shogun episode 9.
Lady Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai) has a lot to live up to on Shōgun – or as Forrest Gump once said about Lieutenant Dan – a lot to “die up to.” Her father, Akechi Jinsai, saved the realm by killing the corrupt Kuroda-sama but was forced into committing seppuku for the act of treachery. Jinsai’s wife, children, and vassals were also executed – with only Mariko spared, having been sent off to marry the loathsome Toda Hirokatsu a.k.a. Buntaro (Shinnosuke Abe).
Since then, Mariko has been desperate to find a route to an honorable death so that she can both redeem her family name and join her loved ones in the echoes of eternity. In Shōgun episode 9 “Crimson Sky”, she finally gets that opportunity. Let’s talk about it … but first: a disclaimer.
As you may have noticed by now, suicidal ideation is a recurring theme on Shōgun.

When the previous episode of Shogun ended with Toranaga’s rousing call to arms, we assumed that Operation Crimson Sky couldn’t be far behind.
Sure enough, A Stick of Time opens in the aftermath of what looked to be a very bloody battle.
If you’re a fan of this show’s unflinching portrayal of feudal carnage, then you probably dug this gory scene, with its many battered corpses and its close-up beheading.
But you may have felt a bit let down moments later when some dude runs through the battlefield screaming, “The war is over!” Well, that was fast!
And not only that, Toranaga has won!
Just when we begin to get the sense that we missed out on something very important, onscreen text reveals that we've been bamboozled, and what we're witnessing is actually the wake of destruction left by Toranaga's first battle 46 years prior.

JoBlo.com recently launched a new weekly documentary series called 80s Horror Memories, where each year of the 1980s has five episodes dedicated to it. Looking back at 1980, we discussed Maniac, Dressed to Kill, Alligator, Friday the 13th, The Shining, Prom Night, and The Fog. The second five episodes were a journey through 1981, covering The Funhouse, The Burning, Friday the 13th Part 2, My Bloody Valentine, Halloween II, The Evil Dead, The Howling, and An American Werewolf in London, as well as the careers of horror hosts Elvira and Joe Bob Briggs. The next five were, of course, all about movies that came out in 1982: Conan the Barbarian, The Thing, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and Poltergeist, with an examination of the short-lived 3-D boom along the way. For 1983, we talked about a trio of Stephen King adaptations, Jaws 3-D, Sleepaway Camp, the rise of TV horror anthologies, and...

Battle Royale games were popularized following the release of PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds and Fortnite, and then Call of Duty: Warzone came. As exciting as it can be, there is always someone trying to ruin the experience of the masses for their own fun.

From wall hacks to aimbots, these fancy users can kill the mood and gaming spirit of any player playing legitimately. Back in 2021, William Shatner became one of the few lucky people—and the oldest—to travel into space aboard the Blue Origin craft backed by Jeff Bezos. When he was interviewed after landing back on Earth, most folks expected a soaring soliloquy about the majesty of space. What they got, though, were the words of a man who had seen Earth as it truly is: a tiny, fragile homestead in the middle of an impossibly vast, profoundly empty, uncaring universe, and the fact of it being in perpetual, avoidable danger made him mourn.

A few weeks ago, Netflix announced it would make a TV adaptation of A. J. Quinnell’s Man on Fire, a novel which was famously turned into perhaps one of the definitive Denzel Washington movies, one which is also considered the late Tony Scott’s masterpiece. So what gives? Why improve on perfection? Could there possibly be a John Creasy that would be seen as an improvement on Denzel’s towering performance? But did you know that this movie wasn’t actually the first adaptation of Quinnell’s novel and that John Creasy’s adventures continued in book form despite his tragic end in Scott’s movie? In this episode of Revisited, we look back at one of the best action films of the 2000s and perhaps Denzel Washington’s most iconic role.
Flashback to the mid-eighties. Despite being about forty, Tony Scott was only just starting to move into features.

Jerry Bruckheimer has seen it all. He remembers the go-go days at Paramount Pictures in the ’80s with his coked-up partner Don Simpson, which yielded the original “Beverly Hills Cop,” “Flashdance” and “Top Gun.” Simpson had incredible story instincts — he invented the “high-concept” movie — and networked Hollywood parties while ex New York ad-man Bruckheimer kept his head screwed on straight and made sure the visually stylish movies were delivered on time and on budget.
On his own in the ’90s and early 2000s, Bruckheimer was cock of the walk at the Disney studio, churning out high-testosterone, actioners from Bruce Willis vehicle “Armageddon” and Nic Cage in “Con Air” and “National Treasure” to Will Smith in “Enemy of the State” and the Johnny Depp “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, which proved that movies could string together VFX-heavy action sequences without worrying about the vagaries of plot. Over the decades Bruckheimer...

Briana Thomas, a prominent extra on soap opera “Young & the Restless,” has sued Sony and CBS and accused showrunner Anthony Morina of sexual harassment.
Thomas alleges that when she shot down Morina’s advances, she was wrongly terminated from the daytime program.
She is seeking “unpaid wages” and “premium pay,” as well as compensatory, exemplary and punitive damages, attorneys’s fees and other financial relief.
Thomas played the barista at the show’s Crimson Lights Coffeehouse, and “appeared fairly regularly for several years.” The character was assigned the name “Lizzy Cooper.” At this point, Thomas was taping the show “almost every day,” according to her lawyers, amassing more than 150 appearances from February 2018 to January 2019.
The filing accuses Morina of making “inappropriate sexual comments and advances” toward Thomas. When they met, Morina “obstructed [Thomas’s] path to the dressing room,” it reads. He then “placed his hand on [her] shoulder and was staring at her breasts,...

Leading Latin American animation studio Ánima has launched a dedicated adult-young adult division and announced that later this year it will begin production on “El Santos,” a serialized version of the company’s 2012 comic book-inspired feature “El Santos vs la Tetona Mendoza.”
The star-studded, landmark film established Ánima as not only a regional powerhouse of Mexican animation, but a leading creator of cartoon content internationally, and was the company’s first production to screen at France’s prestigious Annecy Animation Festival.
2022 will mark Ánima’s 20th anniversary. After nearly two decades of producing content almost exclusively for the kids and family market, Ánima co-founders Fernando De Fuentes Sainz, CEO, and José C. García de Letona, COO, knew the time was right to reach out to a new demographic.
“We’ve seen so much appetite from platforms and networks for content that’s animated for adults and young adults,” García de Letona explained to Variety.

Come True (Anthony Scott Burns)
The darkened screen is almost pitch black before we can begin to discern shapes in the distance. First it’s wooden stakes in the ground at what looks to be a trailhead of sorts. Next it’s a mountain in the distance. Finally we come to a door that swings open as though we’ve been placed inside a videogame merging the puzzle mechanics of Myst with the brooding aesthetic of Hellraiser only to continue moving forward towards a bald figure with back turned—unmoving and foreboding with a mysterious air that can conjure nothing besides dread. And suddenly it’s over with a cut to Sarah (Julia Sarah Stone) awakening from a nightmare, bundled inside a...

This Star Wars article contains spoilers for War of the Bounty Hunters.
Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters kicked off last month with the untold story of Boba Fett’s journey back to Jabba’s Palace after the events of The Empire Strikes Back. Han Solo is still frozen in carbonite on the Slave I, but when the carbonite matrix becomes unstable (which could turn our beloved smuggler into “goo”), Fett is forced to make an emergency stop to Nar Shaddaa, the infamous “Smuggler’s Moon” located smack in the middle of Hutt space. As you can imagine, things only get more complicated from there.
While the big crossover event connects all of Marvel’s current Star Wars comics under one storyline, writer Charles Soule and artist Luke Ross are leading the event with their own War of the Bounty Hunters miniseries. Soule, who’s penned some of the...

Darius Marder’s experimental “Sound of Metal” — the Oscar favorite for Best Sound — was surprisingly snubbed at the 68th annual Mpse Golden Reel Awards for sound editing on Friday, but it rebounded on Saturday to take sound mixing honors at the 57th annual Cas Awards. The sound editors presented a three-way split between Aaron Sorkin’s multi-layered courtroom drama, “The Trial of the Chicago 7” (dialogue/Adr), “Greyhound,” the World War II battleship action/adventure (effects/foley), which is an Oscar sound nominee, and Christopher Nolan’s time-inverted “Tenet” (underscore). Pixar’s “Soul,” which took the Golden Reel for animation, is also in the Oscar hunt for sound. However, the other two Oscar nominees — “Mank” and “News of the World” — were completely shut out.
Ironically, the primary reason the Academy consolidated sound editing and mixing into one category this season was due to increased overlap in recent years. However, despite...

When Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were directing Solo: A Star Wars Story, Paul Bettany wasn’t even involved in the sci-fi blockbuster. The Wire‘s Michael K. Williams was cast as Dryden Vos, and strapped on the motion capture leotard to play a character that he described as an entirely digital creation that fell somewhere between a human and a mountain lion.
However, when the 21 Jump Street duo were given their marching orders by Kathleen Kennedy with just three weeks of principal photography left to go, Williams couldn’t return for Ron Howard’s extensive reshoots due to a scheduling conflict. Presumably to save a little cash on the effects budget, then, which was understandable when Solo‘s drastic overhaul had pushed the price tag up towards almost $300 million, Bettany ended up as a distinctly more humanoid looking version of the ruthless crime boss.
