Good Featurette

Tribute to James Crabe (2006)

*** (out of 4)

ROCKY director John G. Avildsen talks about cinematographer James Crabe who died in 1989. Avildsen talks about how he first heard about Crabe and mentions some of the work the two did together. Of course the one everybody remembers is ROCKY so Avildsen gives Crabe a lot of credit for the actual look of the film and he shines the spotlight on the opening, dark and dirty scene inside the boxing arena. At just under 4-minutes there's certainly nothing ground-breaking about this featurette and no one will ever confuse it for a masterpiece but I thought it had a nice feel to it and it was nice hearing Avildsen talk about his friend and someone important to the ROCKY family.
