Downfall of a Droid
lassegalsgaard6 February 2021
Despite the fact that I am a big fan of RD-D2, this is one of the season's weaker episodes so far. The humor seemed to be aimed more at the younger audience and the overall storyline felt very underwhelming. There were some cool action sequences, including a cool meteor tactic that I thought was very cool, but it was not enough to give the episode the adrenaline it needed. The episode is sold on the nostalgia that we as an audience has the for the character, which is reflected in Anakin's love for him too, but it is not enough for a whole episode. Compared to the previous episode, this was a huge letdown both in regard to the storyline and the character development that was almost non-existent. I remember liking it as a kid, but that has definitely changed.

This story is a fun detour from overall war as R2D2 gets captured after an incident. There are lots of episodes that take us away from the main action, some good and some not so good. This is mostly a good one as it is enjoyable and quite action packed without major letdowns. It is not exceptional as such but is entertaining and is a solid episode.

This shows Anakin as holding R2 in very high esteem and going against the intructions of Obi Wan to risk everything to recover him before he can be handed over to General Grievous. There are some nice bits of dialogue and action and it kept my attention well.

It leads in to an excellent follow up episode.

My rating: 7.5/10.

R3 needs a better Jedi to work with...not the other way around.

Some clubby, un-Star Wars like music grated on me slightly. I never liked how R2 and 3P0 were notable characters in the prequels. It seemed to shrink the universe somewhat. Anakin is annoyingly petulant about his new droid, however, he and Ahsoka work well together, though it's hard to take much away from this episode as it feels very much like a bridge piece to get the next great episode...at least I hope.

Worst episode so far in season 1
sulinc13 January 2019
The animation hasn't rendered fully yet, the frame rate is lower than usual, the storyline is dumb, and the music is horrendous. What was wrong with John Williams's score to the point where they chose to use this upbeat disco-pop music instead??? Even the comedy is lame, resorting to farts and bad smell jokes.

Spoiled by the music
tome-1055914 June 2016
The previous episodes in this series have all had a great score - it has fit the mood and moment very well. Good emotion.

In the episode before this one, there was some kind of dance music played by new recruits that fit.

Not sure why, but this episode contains a lame dance sound-track theme throughout its entirety. All action scenes lose their impact. The consistency of the score means that the episode feels very flat and contains no dramatic or epic moments whatsoever.

It makes no sense. There is no build-up or tension. Only oonceoonce oonceoonce bleeepbleepbedoopeedoopeee oonceoonce lightsaber lightsaber R2R3 oonceoonceetc... Ah it's so bad... Totally ruined.

There are many moments where the music could have turned this drab episode into something better than it actually is.

The story is good, the plot is good. Episodic characters are good. Animation seems to be slightly lower FPS than other episodes in places.

There is nothing wrong with this episode. No fault - except the music is completely wrong, not fitting with star-wars nor the content.

I haven't watched these series for a few years. I remember being annoyed at this music thing last time around. Hopefully it was a one-off, because it stinks up the episode even worse this time around.

Really has that kid feel

Warning: Spoilers
Again i will approach this based on storyline, action and characters Storyline: Basic premise is that R2-D2 is caputured, and Anakin must save R2 from the seperatist. Second, a seperatist spy R3 unit is involved to stop them from doing so.

It seems like a great storyline and then when you watch it fails in the execution. The first episode felt right but the second seemed hokey at the end with R2 fighting R3.

This episode tried to show how important R2 D2 is. But if you think about it, if Anakin had erased the republics strategies, there'd be no need to save R2. A more realistic approach actually was from Obi wan's point of view.

The evil R3 unit seemed very cheap. I can't say enough about how cheesy that fight at the end was (Good robot vs. Bad robot).

Still though, the first episode had some cool moments (with the IG 88's) but the second was a let down.

Action: The action in the first episode worked well with a star battle, then a fight with IG 88's till the ending. The second was pretty bad. Ashoka's fight with Grevious was OK, but that ending fight was the worst.

Characters: Anakin and Ashoka had a good interaction in this episode but nothing more than what has already been seen. R2 D2 had his same fiestiness, and Grievous was...well grievious (i will deal with them myself). The tradorian trader was itneresting and did have that disgusting feel to him while R3 clone was a cheap dopplengagner.

Overall: A cheap episode to bring up R2 D2's value as a "friend". Has one of those My little pony moments (Awwwwwww). You could skip this one.
