Rewatched original.
aarongallagher118 November 2021
Have watched 1st 6 episodes with high anticipation not having watched the original for quite a few years.

1st thoughts.... what is missing with this show? Characters don't feel right, script and dialogue don't feel right. Even returning Grissom and Sara seem off.

So I went back and started rewatching the original show. Oh, the original is so much better and for a show 21 years old it is so good and holds up so well.

Acting, script, filming style is just all so much better than new show.

Even though I was never fond of all the characters except for Grissom and Willows (Nick, Sara and Warrick never truly engaged me - especially Warrick and Sara) the dynamics all work brilliantly.

So getting back to new version, Grissom seems a parody of the old Grissom (and I am truly a fan of Peterson). The others just don't have the same chemistry with their interactions.

Verdict: maybe it will grow on me but I'm having much more enjoyment rewatching 1st 12 episodes of Season One.

Don't reboot classics
andymyers-880869 January 2023
As a huge fan of all the CSI franchises (even Cyber) I was looking forward to this. I binged the first series and had high hopes with the return of a few familiar faces but something just didn't seem quite right. The camaraderie was missing between the characters, they just didn't gel and it seemed like they were literally just reading lines. No fluidity, it was obvious they were all strangers, yet in the original series you genuinely believed they were colleagues and friends at the same time. I've just started the 2nd series and it hasn't got any better. I am British and have lived and worked all over the UK yet Mandeep Dhillon's accent is overbearing and annoying to the point it's making me want to switch off. It seems forced. I doubt very much I will finish this series.

Petersen and Fox need more screen time!
mspeed4416 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I've watched CSI since its beginning and looked forward to this 10 episode reboot because of Grissom, Sara and Brass. Disappointed. Brass for 2 episodes for a few minutes. Grissom and Sara get 8 minutes per episode to solve a crime that could set 1000s free.

Meanwhile, we get 3 or 4 young bland investigators--with 2 attempting to have an at-work romance--which falls flat every time--and their boss who I could learn to like but sounds like she is reading lines.

Which brings up the British girl--I can not understand a word Mandeep Dhillon says-who thought she was a good idea for this show?

Then CBS cut a scene it previewed that was giving up a little romance between Grissom and Sara! Fox, Petersen's wife, and his business partner got in on the fan uproar about the cut. Who thought that was a good idea?

While I was excited about 10 episodes, I'm thinking this could have been so much better as a 2-night special and let it go.

If you've read this far--I hope Petersen and Fox got a good paycheck for this!

Preliminary Judgement: Oy Vey
telavivid15 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
As an ardent CSI fan, I have watched every single CSI episode in existence (including the spin-offs). So as far as the present series are concerned:

1. Storytelling The storytelling has always been the strongest incentive to watch the series (for me). The plot has a hook at the beginning, right before the opening theme starts, and it's usually something like: a person enters a ballroom and there's a body impaled on an iron stick on top of a wedding cake or something. And you look at it and think: "Wait, how did this even happen?" So far, the storytelling in the present show is below average (someone knifed, someone burned), with the exception of the underlining Hodges theme. Meh.

2. Characters It's a mixed bag. Grissom, Sarah, captain Brass (yay!) and Hodges (double yay!) are back. There are some new faces as well. The upside: on paper this is the best possible scenario, in practice - it really isn't. All that the new characters have going for them is that they are diverse in their ethnicity and gender. That's practically it. The male lead has feelings for the female lead, who's engaged to someone else. The new team captain is a mom. The new coroner has one funny line. That's everything. Their screen presence is how cardboard tastes. I hope this changes as the new actors get more comfortable in their roles or just get exchanged with someone who can carry it.

3. Cinematography Man, the camera work of the series was the bomb! The dark filters with the green hue, the slow motion combined with double speed, the unusual angles. It was a revolutionary work of art. Was. I have hardly noticed anything similar here. Why, why?

4. Soundtrack It's The Who, so you can't go wrong with this, everything is on point.

5. Science There is a HUGE problem here. CSI usually involved something very exotic (sexual kink, genetic syndrome, behavioural/psychological deviation etc.), combined with national geographic knowledge (the tiny particle over the suspect's eyebrow is actually the left third upper leg of an insect that lives within the perimeter of the victim's mansion). As funny as it is, the science employed in the CSI episodes was actually solid. That is, until the present series, where in episode 4 you are expected to believe that you can burn plastic (which ignites at 580 degrees Celsius) and any DNA (disintegrating at 130 Celsius) would magically survive. No, darling, if there is a dark black, burned plastic object, there can be no DNA on it, unless the perpetrator decided to spit on it on purpose (and his saliva actually contained epithelial cells) shortly before burying it. Frankly, that mistake alone is both disappointing and offensive.

Yeah, so overall: I am beyond happy that CSI is back. But we need major improvements: better writers, better actors and better directors. This is not an average show, stop treating it as such.

Yay, it's back but....
day2519 November 2021
So happy when I saw this was back but I'm not so sure about the newbies. I love William and Jorja of course but are they gonna be regulars are is this just for a few episodes. If so, I would rethink the cast. Sorry but I Love the originals.

Disappointing
tsidney19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was soooo looking forward to this. I have the original series on dvd and it truly was my fave show. Lovely intro to Grissom. And then epi 2. Awful. He's acting like an old man. It's like he and Hodges have forgotten who they were at one time. Could be the writing too. There's no chemistry between any of them. They've lost the "thing" that made it such a special show. I will watch just cuz. But very disappointed.

Hoping the drama continues and stays true to the original (meaning the first seasons with Grissom). Not sure about all of the character personalities yet. Maybe they'll grow on me. But so far still better than of the other CSI spinoffs.

Ok in parts
confidential-678977 October 2021
The major problem with this is that the actress they have chosen to play the lead is just a lead actress. She was ok in castle when she played a supporting actress but just isn't up to carry a show like CSI. Needs to be recast.

Nailed it!
diannasandora7 October 2021
Loved seeing Brass, Gil, and Sara. The forensics team also feels well rounded. What better way to introduce the old gang than to bring in a creepy pathologist (all the best ones are), smart resourceful techs, and a sharp leader in charge of the lab. I cannot wait to see what happens next and if we will see any of our other old friends and maybe some old enemies too! Nice to see a return to a smart show instead of ones that can either be classified as reality TV or smut.

Really poor medical consulting!
tnwoman-9173321 October 2021
In the pilot, Brass asks Sara whether she has a cure for Fuchs corneal disease. Stupid! There has been a cure for Fuchs since 1905 when Eduard Zim performed the 1st successful corneal transplant. Come on, y'all! Try a little harder.

Good to have the show back, but....
HampshireBlue18 August 2022
....please get rid of the character of Allie. I'm British and even I find her accent bloody irritating. Great to have Gil and Sarah from the original series so that is doesn't feel like a completely new show.

Death by Cliche
mgarland-1806419 October 2021
I want to love it but come on, the clichés are killing me! Every scene has a handful. Who talks like that? And the supporting cast? Their roles are cliché as well. Sticking to the standard crime drama formula is too safe. Break out of the mold please! You can do better. This stellar cast of well loved veterans deserves better.

How does this awful show get these ratings?
nsset1 January 2022
Everything about this is fake. The new cast are unwatchable, unconvincing, fake personas, bad makeup, unrelatable. Paula Newsome and Mandeep Dhillon are the worst of the bunch. I love strong women characters but omg these two are doing an awful job of convincing us or being relatable. Pity Grissom and Sara play second fiddle to this lot.

I made it halfway through the episode and gave up. The new supporting cast is as weak as 3.2 beer. This is a pale imitation of the old show.

I have hope
KelsoBelle7 October 2021
I quit watching the original CSI when William Peterson left. I have great hope for the new show. Writing needs to be improved and the younger actors seem like they're reading the script. I know the acting will be good from William, Jorja, and Paul. So I'll be watching.

Put the old team back together
qbslayer20008 October 2021
It's back!!! So good to see Grissom, Sarah, and Brass!!! The talk of David and the old cases...Wow! Is it too much to ask for Nick to come back, Warrick to still be alive, and Greg to come in and solve all these problems?!?!?!? To say this is my favorite show ever, would be an understatement!

Maybe..
jlhebden-036688 October 2021
The first episode wasn't too bad, it needs more character building. Hopefully William Petersen plays a main role otherwise I won't be interested, the main actress lacks something. It was nice to see some of the original characters.

CSI Vegas - nice to see you again
conway30001 December 2021
What makes CSI Vegas so great is the return of William Peterson and Jorja Fox, The original iteration of CSI Las Vegas was a very popular show. CBS thought they could make different iterations, but what made the show so good was the original cast especially William Peterson.

Decent enough
drpainters17 December 2021
It's not great, new actors are more models then actors. Not very interesting characters either. Grissom and Sarah are there, Sarah gets a decent amount of screen time and Grissom doesn't ,he's in and out. Worth the watch for csi fans. I was never a fan of the NY version, so I'd rank this ahead of that one. I liked the cyber which was just over the top and dumb, Miami was entertaining and Horatio with the glasses was classic.

Need time for character building
talan-693517 October 2021
First i see a lot of bad reviews for character depth. Don't forget how the original kicked off. The writers and the characters need time to develop and own their characters.

I think it was a great start to what has the potential to be another great CSI install. I am happy to watch and lit them develop.

VERY few shows are a hit from the pilot episode, and with the hype of this show the expectations were high.

Definitely worth watching.

Can do matter
ndjdjqdkgw23 October 2021
I am forever a Petersen fan so that's why I am watching but the show needs to re-cast minus the new ME. There is a complete disconnect between the cast . It feels like I'm watching 2 different shows at once .. There is no chemistry with the new cast.

Based on Pilot....
marymcfarland-018667 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'll reserve my rating for now. As far as the pilot.... I've got mixed feelings.

I am a huge fan of the original CSI. I never watch reboots. I watched CSI: Vegas because some of the original cast was involved. Right now, that's the only reason I'm continuing to watch. Smart way to reboot the series.

I am not loving the new cast. They seem disconnected from each other and the legendary nature of the original groundbreaking series. I'm giving them a chance because of the old cast being there. (FYI.. I truly despise the coroner, and his presence would be enough to make me quit watching. He's no Robbins.) I'm not loving the way this was filmed. A LOT of jumping around and weird shifting of scenes. It lacked the flow I enjoyed during the original. I found it hard to find any connection to the story and new characters because we didn't get enough time with anyone or anything that was happening.

Best thing at the beginning...Captain Brass. That man is a treasure. Best thing at the end...Grissom. One of the best characters ever written and brilliantly portrayed by Peterson. Peterson's one line gave me old school vibes and hope for this reboot.

TBC....
