Pretty Good
Supermanfan-133 January 2024
I have to say Sweet Tooth was so much better than I it to be. It's a charming story that takes place in a post apocalyptic world. This show has everything you want in a good fantasy series...it's full of drama, action, comedy, suspense, twists, etc. The best part of the show though is easily the relationship between Gus and Big Man. I never read the source material so I can't compare them but even if I did I would still like the show. I don't understand why people don't like a show because it strays from the source material, as long as it's still entertaining then who cares? I would definitely recommend this series to any fan of fantasy or sci-fi. I'm glad they renewed it for another season. Looking forward to seeing more of this show.

Glad I gave this a chance!
Rob133129 September 2022
I wasn't sure what to expect with Sweet Tooth but after reading through all the positive reviews I thought I'd give it a chance. I'm glad I did! It's a fantasy series about a boy who's half human and half deer who's searching for a new beginning while he goes on an adventure through a post-apocalyptic world. After watching the trailer I thought it was a show designed for kids/teenagers but it's a show for all ages. I never read the comics so didn't know anything about the story at all but I found it very entertaining. This show has a lot of mystery and action that will take you places that will both surprise you and delight you. If you're a fan of fantasy or sci-fi then give this show a chance. It pulls you into the story from the very first episode and holds your attention to the end. Glad I gave it chance!

I really didn't think I was going to like this show
crstuder8712 June 2021
First, the virus in the show is beyond ridiculous, even for a comic book. They ask A LOT from the viewer to accept this. I almost didn't watch the show because I thought it was just too stupid. I'm very glad I gave it a chance. Within the first 20 minutes I was hooked. The story telling, plot and characters are just well thought out and interesting. I always wanted to know what happened next. I also came to realize that the virus and how crazy it is was just a very interesting set up to be able to create a lot of intriguing situations. It isn't perfect by any means though. Sometimes the costumes look a little cheesy. It also can be a bit kiddish from time to time, though at other times it is definitely very "adult". It's like they couldn't decide exactly what age demographic they wanted to go for, so did a little of everything (I wouldn't recommend it for kids under 13 at the very least). All that said I'd definitely recommend it. It was a fun ride with some situations that you'll find yourself thinking deeply about without even realizing it.

First season was a 7, second is a 5
dwuudz-357754 May 2023
I'm not sure wtf happened between season one and season two, but the show has taken a nosedive in quality. The costumes are goofy, the plot is all over the place, the kid actors besides Gus are literally some of the worst characters put to screen (pEEeTeR). They are comically wooden and one dimensional, we get it there is an elephant kid. Also why do all of the hybrid kids look like they were dressed by the crew of 1970s Sesame Street? The Becky side story is painful to watch, general abbot has 0 charisma. The show focuses on every character except Big Man and Gus, who are literally THE reason anyone is watching this show, and in doing so it completely loses any sense of tone or coherency.

I made the mistake of watching the first 10 minutes before bed... 6 hours later and I regret nothing.
skitofit5 June 2021
I recommend starting this series early in the day. It's binge worthy to say the least, the characters are lovable, the story is addictive, and the visuals are really great. The only qualm I have with this series is a bit of lack of dedication to some of the costumes, not any main characters costume, but I really expected to see more details on the 2nd and 3rd hybrid extras that don't take the spotlight much. Usually in films extras get less attention then leads, but with this particular series you'll find yourself captivated by them all. Despite this I'm still giving this series a 10/10 rating, simply because I imagine I'll be watching it again soon. And that doesn't happen very often with series' i love and consider memorable. Even the best of the best series iv seen typically don't get a second watch in my books. But this one was touching, inspirational, insightful, and very very captivating. So I think I'll make an exception. Even just the first few episodes had some really beautiful shots of a off grid forest. Very cool.

Netflix - please be making season 2, I need more Gus
trashley2212 June 2021
Awhile ago I read an article about the show, prior to it being released, and I thought it sounded kinda interesting... fast forward to now and I'd forgotten all about it, but when I saw the poster I was like oh yeah, I remember I wanted to check that out! I said to myself, I'm just gonna play the first 5 minutes, if it's good I'll come back and watch it later, if it's ehhhhhh then I'll just pass - well I didn't stop it after that first 5 minutes, I watched the first 4 episodes instead. I see the complaints that it's "not like the comics" it's based off of, and if that's important to you then you probably won't enjoy as much as myself and plenty of other people who had no clue there even was a comic. I think the story is original, poignant & heartfelt. The acting is flawless; Gus, Jep & Bear are great on their own and when paired in combination or all together they bring their characters, & their world to life. Gus is the embodiment of innocence, hope, joy... and who couldn't use a little more of that in their life right now! I can't wait to see all the different story lines finally converge in Season 2. If you are looking for closure at the end of Season 1 it's not there - & all I can say is, Netflix better be working on Season 2!

Warning: Spoilers
Season 2 of "Sweet Tooth" was more action-packed and engaging compared to Season 1. It effectively portrays how humanity discriminates against the hybrid human-animal children and unfairly blames them for the virus, echoing real-life events like COVID-19. The show highlights the immorality of the antagonist, who chooses to harm these children.

It illustrates the harsh reality that these hybrid children must grow up quickly in a frightening world, resembling a post-apocalyptic scenario. The movie seems to serve as a reflection of a world in crisis.

One character, a female, falls in love with a boy who opposes the hybrid human-animal children, and she decides to distance herself from him due to her bond with Sweet Tooth.

It's astonishing how the antagonists in the film aim to secure their own survival by creating a utopia for a select few, but this plan is unsustainable due to limited resources like food and water.

Sweet Tooth, a half-human, half-reindeer character, is on a quest to find his mother, discovering that she is located all the way in the North Pole, Antarctica.

I highly recommend watching this series as it serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of dehumanizing others and the consequences of such actions on society.

Kill it with fire
edwin-wks5 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Season 2... where to begin? If there is any doubt that this season has been kiddified, consider the abject lack of subtlety, miraculous coincidences, over-the-top caricatures (especially Abbot and Adi), and general insult to an adult's intelligence. Towards the ending, I could not care less if there will be a final season or if they ever found a cure. Here are some of the stupidity in the writing:

1. The virus can't touch the hybrids, so it's really doing the world a favour by eradicating those destructive humans and replacing them with nature-rejuvenating hybrids. Virus for the win.

2. Gus is shot in the back with a crossbow fired by Abbot; both crossbow and Abbot miraculously survive the bison stampede. Cut to what we are made to think is Gus being farewelled by Jepp when it's really Aimee in the ground. How lame.

3. They had all day to set up traps in the forest and all of the Last Men simply walk right into them. Jepp Aimee Gus 37 Last Men 0. Abbot goes toe-to-toe with Jepp and breaks the latter's bad knee while being in chokehold. Derisive laughter.

4. From fearsome fighters in Season 1, the entire Animal Army gets their asses handed to them and we don't see a single drop of blood shed (because it's now a kid's show). The only blood evident is on Tiger's face, and she is naturally the only one who makes it out alive to warn Bear and the hybrids.

5. Can we just take a moment to appreciate how serendipitous it is that a SCHOOL BUS with a tank of fuel and Last Men insignia was just awaiting to be used as the kids' getaway vehicle? What need would the Last Men have for a clunky school bus.

Season 2 could have been far better with fewer hybrids and more focus on what they could do that humans cannot. They can apparently communicate with other animals and summon help, but none of the 10+ hybrid kids discovered this talent at any point in the season, except for Gus in the dying minutes. Season 1 was memorable, 10/10. Season 2 was toothless, 2/10. Kill Season 3 already.

First Season 8, second 6.
JulieBennetW5 December 2023
The first season was good, kept us engaged and wanting to know more. It was gonna be 1 Episode, and we we watched 4 in a row. We were excited about keep watching, even tho the deer kid was a bit annoying making troubles and doing the opposite he was told.

Second season was different, the new hybrid kids didn't really act well, the pig girl never changes her eyebrows expressions, and I think someone else could have that much attention in the episodes.

Bobby, that little one is my favorite one <3 he is super cute!

It was good, but should get a better cast next season, they should keep Gus and replace all the other hybrids for better actors.

We can all use a little bit of this show right now
mariapedro-2077112 June 2021
I feel that I was needing this show. Although the environment is familiar with the one we're living on (a world pandemic), this show warms our hearts with friendship, innocence and hope. The story is binge worthy at the same time you always get the feeling that everything is gonna be okay. And that's so refreshing. I was very surprised with how good the show is.

Rated after Season 1. Hoping S2 keeps up!

Started off OK like most Netflix series
benzapp-129 April 2023
It seems like Netflix always has series that are quite good for the first few episodes, which garners great reviews, then it goes downhill. At least they gave it a second season and didn't cancel it, but it really wasn't that great.

The pace of the series was really slow, and the protagonists just weren't very endearing given the apocalyptic story. The second season really had none of the visual magic of the first season, which was one of the redeeming qualities of the series. I guess it was too expensive to film in New Zealand.

Towards the end, I just really didn't have much sympathy for the hybrid children and sort of wished the antagonists would succeed in their plan to save humanity.

Not sure who the second season is aimed at?
joshwalden-527543 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The first season is brilliant... I would rate it a solid 8/10. The second season felt aimed towards a younger audience with very childish dialogue and story telling. Generally the overall story is good but it's soooo drawn out and repetitive. The biggest problem I had was all of a sudden the childish Disney princess approach gets flipped upside down and there are people getting shot in the face and piles of dead bodies with arrows sticking out of their chests etc so children are certainly not watching this series... So who is it aimed at? It just doesn't make sense to dumb the series down to such a level and then restrict the audience... It's such a shame because the first season was so good and the second could have been awesome! Some great actors delivering a shoddy script. Second season gets a 4/10 from me.

I'm in utter disbelief with how good this is!
jonniespeed-541546 June 2021
No words that I write down will do this series justice. This is the kind of show that makes Netflix worth it a million times over!

The story captivates your mind and tugs at your heart strings from the first five minutes and never lets go. Everything about this seems to have been a labor of love, those who wrote this, directed this and acted in this loved what they did and it shows. This will become one of your favorites if not your absolute favorite and is definitely destined to be an instant classic. 5 stars! Two thumbs way up! A must see!

arod_8515 June 2021
Very interesting take on a pandemic, yet a very endearingly. Acting is superb and good storyline. Manages to appeal to a large age range. I didn't give the show enough credit when I first watched the previews. Far better than it appears. Give it a try. It's enjoyable.

Really refreshing!
Lukasmj14 July 2023
I didn't think I would like "Sweet Tooth" as much as I did in the end.

I found it really refreshing to see something completely different in the series segment that just didn't exist before - of course the series is just an adaptation of the comics, but that's irrelevant.

Due to the narrator who speaks to the viewer from time to time and this colorful image, the series looks a bit like a filmed dystopian children's fairy tale.

This is also recognizable by the fact that here it is clearly defined who is bad and who is good. The "bad" people are also completely exaggerated and sometimes quite stupid (when it comes to the good of the "good people", of course).

I also liked the team that came together on the part of the "good guys".

The main character's background story is particularly well written.

Sometimes there were really extremely beautiful or cool sets.

The only thing I have to complain about is that there were a few VFX scenes that looked really bad and ridiculous and the series is kind of very quiet at times - maybe it's just me, but I really had to turn my TV up 10 notches at times to be able to understand what was said now.

Some people here complain that some things don't make sense and they're right about that, but c'mon folks - this is a show where children are partly born as animals, not everything has to make sense here :)

10 for season 1, 5.5 for season 2
thunderhunter914 May 2023
The first season is awesome. The story was really good. It was deeply emotional, at the same time had good pacing. I was able to connect with the story and it felt mature and rich. From the music, to the narration, to cinematography, everything was awesome. It was just really well done. It justified the opening theme - a story about a very special boy who found himself at the end of the world. Highly recommended. Simply 10/10. In my mind, it was a must watch.

Fast forward to the second season, it is just glorified and dazzling trash. The dialogue feels like it's written by some school kid, and everything is just cleaned up as if it were a kids show. The plot feels disconnected from the main theme and everything just feels oversimplified directly targeting kids below 13 years old. The last episode of season 2 is a surprise. It's good. Made me remember how good season 1 was.

The story of sweet tooth is very special. The second season commits crimes against its source material at how bad it's adaptation is. Please read the original comics. Don't watch season 2. It's a shame Netflix let this gem go to waste.

LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT!
aakashsen5 June 2021
Honestly, I think this belongs in the list of top 10 netflix originals.

I watched all 8 episodes in two sittings - It was that good. I haven't read the graphic novel before so I didn't know what I was getting myself into.

Positives: The Soundtrack was Brilliant. Watch this with the best earphones you have. I'M NOT KIDDING.

They spared no expense with the visuals and it shows. EVERY shot was beautiful (reminded me a lot about Farcry 5).

The actors were pretty solid, especially the main character himself!

Negatives: The plot as a whole is very slow, the show takes its time developing the various characters. We don't know anything about the bad guy (yet). The entire season feels like a pilot episode.

But every episode was interesting to watch with our main characters interacting with other people in different circumstances.

Overall: This is one show i will never forget! For a second, it looks like it's made for kids and at the next second, it has gritty scenes.

It has beautiful visuals and soundtrack. If you're missing the outside because of the pandemic, this IS the perfect show to watch!

I swear, if netflix cancels this for some reason, I'm rioting.

Good family show
snowlope6 June 2021
I'm really disappointed with people's reviews lately. They focus to much on personal dislikes of certain genres. Instead of having an open mind and just grading a movie based on key characteristics. The story is weird but I'm not going to rate bad for that..lmao. The acting is good and the script seams well written. The story starts slow but seams to pick up.

Cute story but some negatives
elizrug4 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm on episode 1 of season 2. I liked it more in the beginning. Now I'm OK with the show and keep it on while I'm doing something else.

1. If Aimee raised Wendy then Wendy would speak with an accent like Aimee who has a Hispanic accent.

2. General Abbott's accent bounces from American to Russian to British. They brought in a South African actor to play him, then they should have let him just use his own accent.

3. The costumes are ridiculous. How can the turtle kid be wearing a sweatshirt? The kids all look like they are in a school play.

I can't decide if this is a kids' show or not.

But it's entertaining enough.

Downgraded because of season 2...
spikeypoet4 May 2023
What in tarnations happened to season 2!?... season 2 was BLOODY AWFUL!!

Season 1 was fantastic; It was cute, loving, caring, concerning, protective, convincing and urgent.

Season 2 was Sesame Street 2.0; Sesame Street written with an action 'plot', and bad acting; the acting was flat. Especially by The General.

I can forgive the kids because they're likely new to acting, but The General was a garbage character.

Season two SUCKED!

Netflix RARELY have good followup seasons after a good first.

How do they completely ignore ALL that made the first season great, only to write a wreck and see it through, with disregard to whether it's convincingly sellable or not!?

Too much time was wasted on those annoying kids when they were in the jail.

It would have been a great deal better without all of that Sesame Street nonsense; it got better in the last 2 episodes, but that was FAR too late.

Season one was great. Season 2 was beyond bad.

Either cancel this or commission better writers.

Don't make this mistake again!

Netflix BEEN taking losses; they've been churning out low-grade garbage for at least 8 years.

Netflix, clean your house! Improve your writers!

You cancelled Colony AND The OA, which were your greatest series! You suck!!

***CANCELLED my Netflix subscription because of enforcement action against password-sharing, constant agenda-forcing, as well as bad-written, irritatingly bad, empty content.

I'm not paying for shoddy treatment. NO WAY!!

I have Disney plus, Amazon Prime and NOW; I will not miss Alphabetflix.
