Netflix India has been rolling out some great content this year. Kohrra is easily one of the best shows so far in the Ott space. This was followed by the unprecedented success seen by Scoop, Guns & Gulaabs, and Choona. The streaming giant has, for the past few months, boasted of delivering shows in various subjects and genres that have captivated the audience. The brand new Kaala Paani is a callback to the 1996 Mohanlal starrer period film of the same name, directed by Priyadarshan. Meanwhile, this show is a medical drama set on Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is interesting to see Netflix India’s foraying into this genre, as there is already Disney+ Hotstar’s Humans and Amazon Prime Video’s Mumbai Diaries. Both are fine examples of good medical dramas.

Sujata Ajawale is one of the many characters in the show Mumbai Diaries who had to fight the hardest to finally get what she wanted: dignity and respect. This show by Nikkhil Advani made sure to present lead characters from all walks of life to make the viewers understand that everyone has their own journey and struggle. Everyone in the show works towards dealing with their issues and saving lives. Dr. Sujata was one of them.
Just like Dr. Diya Parekh and Dr. Ahaan Mirza, Dr. Sujata joined Bombay General Hospital as a first-year resident doctor. Bombay General Hospital might be a government entity, but it holds a reputation for having good doctors working very hard to make sure the patients remain safe, guarded, and alive. Dr. Sujata comes from a background of lesser means, and she has fought tooth and nail to reach this position.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Mumbai Diaries introduced characters who go through an arc and finally come out as better people at the end of the day. Both the stories in the show were about how twenty-four hours of adversity change the way people think about their lives and work.
One of those characters in the show is Mansi Hirani, who began as an up-and-coming television journalist who wanted to make it big in the field. Mansi is a representation of sensationalist journalism, which was on the rise in the early 2000s, and the trend still thrives. Viewers still like stories that the people who consume claim are hardcore, but at the center, there is no substance, nor does it bring any change to the lives of people. Journalism is supposed to question the status quo and not just make inconsequential statements. Mansi’s boss Malini pushed her to put herself out...

Mumbai Diaries seasons 1 and 2 unanimously received great reactions from critics and the audience alike. Th Nikkhil Advani show boasts good direction, cinematography, editing, and a fast-paced screenplay, and just like any other good medical drama, it kept the audience on the edge of their seat.
The first season had the makers recreate the November 26th attacks and how Bombay General Hospital inadvertently became the hotspot where all the drama and the showdown happened. Apart from the devastating scene at the hospital, there was also the recreation of the siege of Hotel Taj in Mumbai, which had overwhelming numbers of casualties, most of them among the staff who gave their lives to make sure the guests were safe. It ended on a somber note as the terrorists were neutralized both in the hospital and hotel, but many people were killed by the terrorists themselves; one of them being the mother of a lead character.

Mumbai Diaries has a plethora of characters that feel very real, and the viewers will find themselves relating to their life issues and dilemmas. The men and women in this show are not right or wrong. They are just human beings who make mistakes, learn from them, and move on. It is endearing to see them take this path of gray shades instead of drawing a stark line between being a good person or a bad person.
Dr. Chitra Das is introduced in season one as the Director of Social Services at Bombay General Hospital. She is known for helping the poor and the needy in this government hospital and allows herself to get overwhelmed with work. She has a reputation to keep up with and Chitra makes sure all the work at the hospital is done in the smoothest manner possible. Since this is a government hospital, people from...

Both seasons of Nikkhil Advani’s Mumbai Diaries have garnered critical appreciation as well as love from the audience. Both seasons of the show are based on true major events that rocked the city of Mumbai in two different years and on how the people of the city came forward to help each other out in times of adversity. In a densely populated city like this, many found good samaritans, and in the case of Mumbai Dairies, it was the doctors and the staff of the Bombay General Hospital that showed the utmost resilience at the peak of the disaster.
The first season of The Mumbai Diaries is based on the attack of 26/11 carried out by terrorists who had assistance from across the border. Nikkhil Advani made sure to accurately present the story as the tension around the city increased manifold once incidents kept increasing. Nikkhil Advani resurrected the real...

Mumbai Diaries Season 1 was based on the attacks of 26/11 that shook the city of Mumbai and the nation to the core. An attack of this scale led to many casualties and left a deep scar on the fabric of the city. Nikkhil Advani managed to convey a story that was a mix of realism and over-the-top theatrics and presented a decent narrative that was filled with a sense of urgency. As an extension to that world, creator and director of Mumbai Diaries Season Two, Nikkhil Advani, again brings forward a story that is based on the 2005 floods that affected Mumbai. This time the characters are confronting a natural calamity, an entity they can’t hope to have any control over. This eight-episode-long show was released on Amazon Prime Video on October 6, 2023, and boasts an ensemble cast apart from brand new faces.

Mumbai Diaries Season 2 (Prime Video)
Starring Konkona Sen Sharma, Mohit Raina, Tina Desai, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Satyajeet Dubey, Natasha Bharadwaj, Mrunmayee Deshpande, Prakash Belawadi, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Riddhi Dogra
Directed by Nikhil Advani
Overlooking the rather strange lacuna in the timeline whereby the second season moves from the terror attack of 26/11/2008 to the monsoonal deluge of 26/7/2005, Mumbai Diaries part 2 is a more intricately sketched portrayal of a city under siege than part 1 which suffered from under-developed characters and over-informed plot developments.
By now we know who’s who at the Bombay General Hospital. They need no introduction, and their function within the disembodied domain of injury and trauma is clearly aligned to the crisis on hand. There is more of Konkona Sen Sharma’s Chitra Das this time than Mohit Raina’s Dr Kaushik Oberoi, the head of trauma who seems pretty traumatized himself.

Makers Nikhil Advani and Nikhil Gonsalves presented a fictionalized version of events realistically.
Mumbai Diaries Season 1 began with a scene at the Opd of Bombay General Hospital, which was just like any other facility that deals with emergency cases. Three residency students joined the hospital to assist the chief of trauma surgery, Dr. Kaushik Oberoi, on the fateful day of November 26, 2011. There's a delightful little film from the 2023 Toronto Film Festival that deserves to become a hit worldwide. It's called Lost Ladies, originally titled Laapataa Ladies, and it's one of the best discoveries out of the fall film festivals this year. It just premiered at TIFF and it's scheduled to open in India in early 2024; I'm hopeful distributors worldwide are picking up on it and making plans, especially as more and more of us rave about this film. Lost Ladies is the latest feature film made by Indian filmmaker Kiran Rao, director of the 2010 movie Mumbai Diaries before this (she has mostly been working as a producer on other projects over the past decade). The fun-for-everyone mainstream comedy is about how everything becomes a "jolly mess" when two young brides get swapped while on a train; set in 2001, somewhere in rural India. The story follows two brides, and their husbands, who...

The Hindi film Shershaah as well as the Tamil film Jai Bhim, topped the prestigious IMDb list of most watched Indian films of 2021. Incidentally, both films based on real-life characters and incidents films released on Amazon Prime Video.
Jai Bhim, a loud but hardhitting film on poverty and police brutality is set in the 1987 and based on a real-life incident where an innocent man from the destitute Irula tribe in Tamil Nadu was taken into custody and beaten to death. The survivalist narrative, punctuated by cries of anguish and whoops of triumph, is a terrific star-vehicle for Suriya who steps in 30 minutes into the plot, to play the heroic lawyer Chandru who, we are told , habitually fights cases for the downtrodden.
Suriya is most comfortable in the messianic role imbibing his compassionate character with an unreasonably steep amount of empathy. I guess a society based on monstrous discrimination does need...
