Some good... some bad...
tccandler28 September 2021
Although the set pieces are pretty spectacular, this disaster movie falls apart for a few reasons. Some of the logistical lunacy is just too hard to swallow. The characters are more stereotypes than fully developed personalities. And the tone tries to balance goofy humor with tragic deaths... never quite managing to toe that impossible line.

A great combination of disaster and comedy
Misss2519 February 2022
Disaster movies trends to be tensed but in this movie, it isn't. You can feel the comedic vibe in intense moment. It felt weird but at the same time refreshing. Last part was just out of my imagination. Who ever thought of surviving in this way. Though it kind of dumbed but still kind of unique way. Overall it's good.

A man and his family move into the home they've waited years for only to find that there may be some issues with the building foundation. Soon they are in a sinkhole nightmare.

I was expecting a bit more thrill than I got from this but what it lacked it thrill was compensated with humor. Overall, I found it to be an enjoyable watch.

Rather intense disaster movie...
paul_haakonsen24 October 2021
Well, if you enjoyed the 2021 movie "The Tower" (aka "Ta-weo") then you will also like "Sinkhole", given the director is the same behind both movies, and both movies are disaster movies with a very intense feel to it.

The storyline told in "Sinkhole" is certainly entirely new for me to see in the disaster movie genre, and that was rather refreshing. So writer Cheol-Hong Jeon definitely managed to come up with something new and exciting for this movie. Thumbs up for that accomplishment, because it really added a lot of excitement to the movie and provided good entertainment.

For a disaster movie, then "Sinkhole", much like "The Tower", is a very intense movie that puts the audience right in the chaos, and director Ji-Hoon Kim certainly manages to do that well. So this is a movie where you are rather involved in what is going on, and there isn't a dull moment throughout the course of the storyline.

Visually then "Sinkhole" is great. The special effects look really good and realistic, and the CGI and practical effects teams really brought the disaster to life in a very believable manner. So you are in for quite the visual treat if you opt to sit down and watch "Sinkhole" - which I can warmly recommend that you do.

The acting performances in "Sinkhole" are good, and they definitely had managed to hire a good ensemble of actors and actresses to participate in the movie.

This is definitely a movie that you should watch if you enjoy disaster movies.

My rating of "Sinkhole" lands on a well-deserved seven out of ten stars.

They tried
Kidkungie10 October 2021
This movie tried something new by combining a disaster thriller with comedy and well al I can say is that they tried. The movie feels slow and dragging in some parts while some scenes just feel cartoony and unrealistic. The characters are likeable and funny but the movie was just lackluster.

its a new kinda...
ops-5253522 November 2021
Disaster scenario we are looking at in this south korean action thriller dramedy, as the title says its about a sudden sink in the ground that swallows a 5 story building and much more, made on south korean premisses and wit, with all the cultural nodding, screaming and slapping thats so usual in their films.

Its not unusual building bad buildings on a rotten underground in south korea, also a history with motheating corruption and greed due to sky high prices for a living lot combined with a long geographical history of sinkholes, make this topic of events interesting.

Its the first sinkhole disaster movie ive noted, and the plots and drive of action mustve been inspired by the norwegian consepts of ''the wave' and ''quake'', there are so much that happens in a short time, that even the grumpy old man did his best to push and pull (on the sofa) to help the survivors. And there are also mediocre parts of compulsary korean rites that has to be there just to be accaimed as worth watching which may be daft and unusual to see outside east asia, and there are some inconsistencies that bends every physical laws of reality, and things you might shouldnt do I. C. E..

but its fun and scary, loads of mud and dirt , an amazing set of special effects that mustve been overwhelming in the cinema theater, so if you are in for the adrenaline have a look.

The cast is fairly well known faces from the korean tv-world, the acts is not outstanding in any way, but as a team it works. So whether or not, a sinkhole makes challenges for everyone, and remember your gps and cellphone doesnt work at 400 meters bsl, so you better be prepared and start climbing the rugged wall before YOU fall in...

Poseidon but its a house!
Neptune16514 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is not bad ether not good. Wow unbelievable. 500-metre sinkhole the world record sinkhole is only 300 metres if 500 not sure there is lava spilling out a bit too over. I felt like a childish movie. That building fell 500m deep and is still intact, 500 meters deep with no injuries?!! Somehow the CGI here looks rough compare to other Korean movies from the past.

This is something to see together with family or friends. Little drama, but more irony / comedy overall. Watching this movie got me in good mood. Not a blockbuster, but definitely a nice made one!

Disappointing.
bombersflyup20 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Sinkhole is over the top, mildly amusing and evoking at times.

The characters are rather cartoonish, screaming and carrying on the whole time, without the requisite laughs to match. Yet they lack depth as well, even though the opportunity's there. Once they're in the sinkhole it's not that interesting either and unrealistic to survive. Seung-Won Cha gives a solid performance.

Really Good
svader3 October 2021
Entertaining with laughs thrown in also.

Not a standard comedy nor is it a standard disaster movie. Done in the style that only the Koreans can do.

ENJOYABLE
kavindujayawardhane15 March 2022
If you are looking for a disaster movie with some average comedy in it, this is your time. Also, this movie engages with how people react to sudden dangerous situations like this. Slowly starting with middle-class social problems in South Korea this movie suddenly goes through a disaster. So unexpectedly people have to face the consequences of that matter. So this movie is pretty enjoyable with your family members....

At least We can take some points by this movie.

As parents please listen ur child don't be superior or selfish.

Get out from car when something happen.

Research first before buy house or apartment.

As parents tell ur child about ur neighborhood not as strangers so u can ask for help if something happen.

Jangan maboook teroos, alkohol ga baik buat kesehatan

Yaa gitu lah pokoknya sampe akhir ga ada yg wow banget.

Not surprised me
fapaduatezra2 November 2021
As being a trending period of Hallyuwood (Squid Game, My Name etc.), i share the synopsis with our language at one of our movie fans group on Facebook. After that I'm thrilled and surprised on how they reacted and more than 500 people watched and commented. On my point of view, around 15mins of the beginning when they move to the building, I thought it might be a dull movie. But after all the tragedy, it was far from humdrum.

Light comedy, RV advertising
g-896226 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
6 as a light comedy, 4 as a disaster film, 5 as a good fit. Let's watch it as a comedy! In fact, the comedy is what comes with the actors. The movie was originally a nearly 2 hour RV commercial.

Entertaining comedy disaster
phd_travel29 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Interesting blend of comedy and disaster movie. It's not laugh out loud funny but the light tone works and felt I could relax knowing the outcome will be ok for the main characters. It's a survival movie as they navigate out of the sinkhole after the building falls in. Some excitement from daring rescues and heroism make this a pleasing adventure. Some familiar faces including goofy Cha Seung Won and Lee Kwang Soo and Nam Da Reum.

boring as hell
abbottmaurice14 October 2021
Boring talk with useless opening for 30 mins, The real land collapse took almost 30 mins to start, and I felt asleep after next 15 mins. I thought this film was good with a 6/10 ratings on Google?

A disaster movie...with laughter!?
ryanmo-351785 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Not much expectation when going to watch the movie. The plot is simple and direct, the house suddenly sinks into a 500m hole! The movie is about the actions taken by the victims, although 2 of them were dead, the others were finally saved. Although with some unreasonable scenes, eg floating without de-pressure, there are so many funny scenes in between. Worth to watch!

A quite comedy drama and usual normal Korean standard
mailtaskservice21 May 2022
Cannot expect very nicely made but rather normal Korean quality. The special effect is poor, some parts are nonsense illogical, 2-3 parts are intense, some parts are funny, however the actings are poor.

I can give max 6/10. Recommended to watch only at home, cinema is not worth.

Not really good
Wina_17 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There are many annoying things in this movie like bad CGI, too much talking, ill-timed humor, and unrealistically survived like how do they even breathe in that plastic container(?). The only highlight was when the dead boy came to save the kid in the car, that got me goosebumps. It has a bad plot but the actors doing good their job, plus 1 for them.

An Absolute Masterpiece of Comedy and Thriller.
vpashish21 November 2021
Very brilliantly directed and even more effectively presented by all the actors. The cinematography and direction is absolutely brilliant. Worth watch one for sure. Ground breaking concept and storyline. Yet another masterpiece from Korean entertainment industry. They can simply take any concept and turn it into a masterpiece. Beautiful movie.

More comedy than disaster
Leofwine_draca6 May 2023
The Koreans aren't particularly known for their disaster movies although over the past decade the likes of THE TOWER and THE TUNNEL stand out for being particularly suspenseful and well-mounted examples of the genre. SINKHOLE is something else entirely, more comedy and melodrama than disaster flick, although many of the genre's staples are present. The film is preoccupied with home ownership and house prices and follows the escapades of a group of apartment dwellers when their building descends below the earth. The story is totally preposterous and the dodgy CGI doesn't help, but the acting is on point and the cast work well together. However, the second half falls apart a bit and feels surprisingly listless given the premise.

Waste of Time
hamitdevecioglu26 March 2024
No need to explain more about the film, you have to change it's genre to Fantastic, there is no action, no drama and no comedy at all. If you want to watch a film without using your brain, so go on and give it a chance. I generally don't make a bad review about films, as I am thinking every project need so much effort so I am rarely give 1 star for any film. But for this thing, shouldn't be called as a film at all, they didn't put any effort on it. Even it's a comedy, I didn't laugh even once. I can write tons of bad things about the film, but I don't like to give spoilers. Trust me, I put more effort to type that message than the producers of this film.

Couldn't be better
paul-ayres-6078420 April 2022
I've come to expect brilliance from South Korean movie makers and this does not disappoint.

Great character build up, plenty of humour as well as serious drama. The special effects are excellent, depicting the frightening situation they are all faced with.

It's a 2 hour movie but time flies past so quickly with entertainment this good.

This really is a disaster movie
missraze10 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Just a couple thoughts: This was a very loud, intense, action packed movie, with great special effects. The cast pretty much would have been screwed, though, without the divine intervention of the miraculous yellow submarine coupled with the handling of Seung-Tae's dad. Just before the submarine came, I switched away from the movie giving up on them. But then I was re-invested with intrigue on how the submarine would work. I was wowed and rewatched it a few times. It was probably the best disaster-movie endings I've ever seen. I felt genuine joy and almost shed a couple tears lol. But then I felt genuine sadness for Seung-Hoon; he was badly injured/comatose, and the flood was rapidly rising and all he had was an ailing grandmother to get him out. But it was a merciful end because he was comatose and would not know he perished, and his grandmother perished in peace watching him.

That said, the first 20 minutes of the film were dragged out and unnecessary. The film could've started at the 22nd minute tbh, with Chief Dong-Won's colleagues arriving for the housewarming party, maybe keep the little moments of meeting Seung-Tae and his dad, though.

It's also technically an action comedy, but there was no comedy in the second half, and the comedy that was there in the first half is largely forgettable. Still though, the film was enjoyable. Just not that funny.

Lastly, the boy they chose to portray Su-Chan is literally one of the most adorable things ever. Him respectfully yet tearfully greeting and thanking the man who saved them with his little chipmunk voice was a tear jerker lol.
