For four seasons, viewers watched Ruby Gettinger shed more than 350 pounds from her peak weight of 716 pounds. Her incredible weight-loss journey was documented by the Style Network on the reality show "Ruby" -- but what happened after the show was canceled?
In this video clip from "Oprah: Where Are They Now," Gettinger says the storyline took a turn in the final season. What once was a show documenting one woman’s battle against obesity became more about reporting numbers on a scale, she says.
Feeling the pressure, Gettinger reveals she started to secretly binge eat at fast food restaurants near her home in Savannah, Ga. She says she would fake cell-phone conversations to trick people into thinking she was placing the order for someone else.
"I would binge eat and eat and then go on a three-day fast," Gettinger says in the video. "I was totally messing up my...

The Sundance Channel is putting a new spin on the housewives craze. (Apologies for the bad pun). On April 17, the cable net will preview Push Girls, a new reality show from Gay Rosenthal (Ruby, Little People, Big World) that will focus on four Hollywood area women who live with paralysis. The 14-episode season will officially debut on June 5.
And who are the push girls? Angela is described as a “down-to-earth, stunningly gorgeous model who has recently become separated from her husband;” Auti is a dancer, rapper and “all-around powerhouse” who, at age 42, is hoping to have a baby with her...

For the four paralyzed women starring in a new reality series, the show is about pushing right through stereotypes, disappointments and career obstacles.
Set to debut in April, "Push Girls" will give viewers an unscripted look into the lives of four gorgeous ladies who became disabled after enduring tragic car accidents or debilitating diseases, the Sundance Channel announced. Producers hope that by bringing the series into mainstream television, they'll demonstrate how strong people with disabilities are -- and that it's Ok to look and talk about their conditions.
"The indomitable spirit of this series will give viewers permission to stare at a world that they may previously have been too polite -- or too frightened -- to explore," Sarah Barnett, Sundance Channel's General Manager, said in a release.
When it comes to fear, that's something these ladies refuse to cart around in their wheelchairs.

With a deft piece of editing, the opening montage of “Touch” delivers a promise that, despite a no-name cast and filmmaker, we’re in for something special about a very specific community.
A light comedy painted with brushstrokes of both drama and humor, the film’s core is constituted by Tam (Porter Lynn), a quiet nail technician who is a magician at bedazzling her client’s fingertips, and Brendan (John Ruby), a male mechanic embarrassed by his grease-stained hands who is seeking help with a condition that has become a point of consternation for his wife. From moment one of Brendan’s meeting Tam, it’s clear that Tam’s touch and attention, two things clearly missing from his relationship, enchant the first-timer.

The Style Network is about to embark on an adventure in constructive self-loathing as the Comcast-owned cable channel gets ready to launch "What I Hate About Me."
Hosted by Style personality Lisa Arch ("Clean House"), "What I Hate About Me" is an unconventional makeover show that challenges women to address the 10 aspects of their lives they dislike the most. Along with the obligatory complaints about cellulite and relationships, the women who appear on the show will look to get a handle on everything from intra-family dynamics to the way they manage their financial affairs.
After each guest lays bare the things she can't abide in herself, Arch and a rotating panel of experts (including boxer Laila Ali, nutritionist Rachel Beller and radio host Emily Morse) will attempt to devise pragmatic solutions to some of the more vexing problems.
Style has ordered 10 one-hour episodes, the first of which debuts at 9 p.

Once 716 pounds, Ruby Gettinger has lost 387 of them. This morning she sat down with Natalie Morales on the Today show to talk about how she did it and promote her new memoir, "Ruby's Diary: Reflections on All I've Lost and Gained." "I was at death's door," said Ruby, who has her own self-titled show on the Style Network. Ruby's doctor suggested she start taking insulin, but she saw that as a cop-out. "I felt like if I was taking insulin I was giving up. I said, 'No, I have to fight this. I'm not going to give myself shots,'" she said. Ruby claims her long and public battle with her weight has served a purpose. "I believe I'm a better person being big because I don't judge people, I don't look at people on their shell, I look at the inner...

Despite gaining 2 lbs., Ruby Gettinger inspired a lot of young people in Sunday's season finale of her Style network show. Ruby was recruited to attend and speak at a kids' weight-loss camp in the Poconos. She (and Jeff and Georgia) had some trouble adjusting to strict rules in the first few minutes -- Ruby joked, "How am I supposed to order pizza with no cell phone!?" And she made sure to disinfect her cabin with the 20 cleaning products she packed (sounds like our style of hygienic roughing it!). Soon Ruby was a happy camper, though. Her Southern drawl was a treat for the kids, and she threw herself into activities from volleyball to dodgeball to horseback riding (Ruby's first time ever on a horse.) And she liberally gave out her famous hugs, while getting the campers to open up about their biggest dreams. Maybe camp counselor is the perfect...

At first glance there might seem something slightly odd about a show centered on the efforts of a morbidly obese woman to slim down from upwards of 500 lbs appearing on the Style Network. At second glance Ruby might in fact seem to be the very worst, most insidious idea so-called “reality television” has ever vomited forth from its diseased orifice. After all, here is a woman so beyond obesity that to continue her lifestyle even one more day invites debilitating sickness and death that nonetheless is prepared to exhibit her impossible struggle on television for mass consumption. And compelled by the very nature of reality television you can be sure that on the other side of the camera is a room full of “development” people, commanding a salary, whose sole purpose is to dream up ways for her to potentially stumble and fail and then somehow integrate them into the show.
