Warning: Spoilers
After seeing the first few episodes of season four, I think I can safely say the heart is back in this series. Ever since the producers made Earl a sap and sent him to prison for a crime Joy committed, the show seemed to get meaner, cruder and lost its way. The list became very secondary, as were the people Earl was trying to help.

That seems to have changed.

TV veteran Jerry Van Dyke plays an old timer that Earl stole a motor home from years ago, not realizing he also stole the man's memories and his life. Earl helps put the man's life back together and then the plot takes a unexpected and funny twist as Van Dyke decides to get revenge on an old Army buddy of his (John Amos). Having these two old TV vets together (I think they both appeared on a "Mary Tyler Moore" episode--Jerry used to be a writer for "Chuckles the Clown") is a great get. They both know their way around a comedy bit, but then do a nice job emotionally as they rediscover their old friendship.

It's also very funny.
