Another Engaging Episode

Warning: Spoilers
A man called Roy McComb gores to the church and confess to the priest that he can talk to the devil and foresees accidents. Meanwhile a man releases a lethal gas in a bus and steals the backpack of a woman. Agent Dunham is assigned to investigate the case and soon she discovers that the woman was an undercover narcotics agent. Meanwhile the FBI is informed by the priest about Roy and finds drawings, sketches and models of several attacks in his apartment, some of them not released to the press. Roy explains that he overhears voices and Dr. Bishop recalls an unfinished experiment of communication he had worked with his former friend and founder of the Massive Dynamics. Dr. Bishop and his son decide to proceed the experiment with Roy while Dunham learns that she is not informed of all necessary information. Further, they find that the man did not find what he was looking for in the backpack and has visited the agent in the hospital. What is he searching for?

"The Ghost Network" is another engaging episode of "Fringe". There are funny moments with Dr. Bishop and mysterious sequences with Phillip Broyles and Nina Sharp. Anna Torvis is excellent in the role of the efficient Olivia Dunham. But so far the best is the unpredictability of each storyline. My vote is eight.

Both an intense and fun episode.

Warning: Spoilers
An old human subject for one of Dr. Bishop's old experiments is experiencing bigger issues than what as expected as he can now predict the upcoming tragedies in the world, including the flight which brought us here in the first place of this whole journey( the one in the pilot) and the Fringe team's latest assignment, the bus that was filled with a chemical and killed them all, and making them still as sticks. They use this young man for another experiment to prevent the next tragedy, which also has a connection with the bus incident. There is also an excellent twist at the end of it, won't give it away though...

This was a pretty interesting and engaging episode, but not my favorite so far of the season 1. However, I really liked the additional relationship and character development for both Peter Bishop and his father Dr. Walter Bishop.

Can't wait for the next episode, however I hope to be much more engaged with it than this one. But perhaps it was partially because of myself, I was sort of tired at the time I watched it. Gotta watch it again...

Good enough episode but I didn't enjoy it as much as the first two episodes.

Dunham's wooden acting is getting on my nerves.

I found the acting from the guy who is picking up these "ghostly" transmissions to be decidedly average. His character didn't draw me in to his pain or anguish. He was just annoying. They could have cast a better actor for this role.

The story itself is pretty interesting and tackles a few random ideas: a special gas that solidifies into a gel, a secret frequency for communicating messages, the ability to change the brain from visual to audio reception. As a stand alone concept it's not as interesting an idea as the last episode.

I continue to Mostly enjoy the Odd dynamic Between Peter and Walter Bishop. They provide a necessary comic relief.

I feel like this episode provides more questions than answers. That's ok in small doses but I don't want to start feeling frustrated if they just tread water on the overarching narrative of the show. I hope they explain why they wanted that thing they removed from the woman - I'm guessing she witnessed something important and they need to access her memories like they are doing with John Scott.

I also want to know how Massive Dynamic fits into the Pattern and where the different characters' loyalties lie.

Fringe: se1 ep3 9-25-08

The opening scenes of this episode demonstrated a series who was seemingly unwilling to break away from the cliché "procedural drama" formula. All the components are here right down to the pre-opening intro scene that introduces this episodes unique dilemma. Where it falters in bringing to the table anything unique structurally it makes up for in what I am now officially going to call the "fringe twist". That is to say the only area the series seems to stand out is its capacity to create unique twists on tried and true sci-fi paranormal schlock. This ep had me fooled into thinking I knew what was going on then subverted said expectations in a rather unique little way. The series has also has a tough time balancing the characters procedural side with the more human side....you know the side that laughs/smiles etc.. In this the third ep of this new series I'm not yet willing to wave its banner and claim fandom but I can say that by the time the credits rolled I was quite entertained and will be back next week.

Warning: Spoilers
Actually I had "misplaced" my review of S4E3 in here, so I have to make up something for this one, which is oen of my favourite classic Fringe eps.

Introducing "The Amber Protocol" - This ep slipped ideas used heavily in season 3 on "The Other Side" but we did not know about this seeing this 3rd ep of Fringe on the way in. Which just makes me respect the continuity of writing the producers keep for this show.

Also has first use of Walter's "Headset" although they had to drill holes in a guys head to use it the first time. Other questions arose in this ep, some of them still unanswered.

Keeps on Moving

I know that the skeptics out there are saying what the ....! That's because if you are not invested in the show at this point, there are millions of other things to watch that are much more mainstream and realistic. Remember the X-Files. Really popular. Beyond belief. A great deal of fun. It's fiction. In this one we have a person appears to be able to see the future--specifically of horrible events. He becomes the pivotal factor in trying to prevent these. I like his character as he navigates his own self hatred. The regulars are there kind of floating along, doing science that is something else. I am really captivated. A friend who has seen the entire series had one criticism, that it has no endgame. I hope that's not true because that was the problem with the aforementioned X-files. When series keep getting renewed, sometimes the writers lose control. All in all, a great show.

The ghost network

Warning: Spoilers
The idea of commutating thru an unknown wavelength was amazing. The man was one of the guinea pigs of Walter back in the days of his pre-institutionalized era on the same topic of ghost network. The guy predicts some heinous acts of terrorism and it turns out he became the receiver of the ghost network during the tests of Walter. Broyle is cooperating with miss sharp and they have plans for Olivia. The substance that solidified instantly and froze the passengers in the bus. Massive Dynamics is somehow behind all this. They are interrogating the late detective Jack the lover of Olivia postmortem in the massive dynamics.

So this guy gases a bus driving on a busy road but the bad guy has a gas mask everyone else doesn't. The bus doesn't crash? It just rolls to a stop and the bad guy walks off? Come on.
