A Round of Applause is a reality check for audiences about the existential crisis that we all have been facing in modern times. The Turkish drama helps us find meaning in the meaningless activities of the characters. Accomplished actors like Aslihan Gurbuz, Fatih Artman, and Cihat Suvarioglu have added to the charm of the series. Ben Oya has done an excellent job of successfully executing such an absurd theme, which wouldn’t have been possible without the skilled cast. Other imminent faces, like Cengiz Bozkurt, have also added special value to the drama, making it stand out amidst the other satirical dramas.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s role in Sex and the City and other ventures once made her one of the highest-earning actors in show business. At one point, her earnings rivaled movie star Angelina Jolie’s, which was surprising to Parker.

Jolie and Parker had two different career paths. Jolie built up her career through a variety of movies, like Girl, Interrupted and Original Sin. The stars of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny attended their movie premiere at Zoo Palast in Berlin, Germany.
Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Harrison Ford gathered for a group picture as the cameras caught them mid-conversation.
Dial of Destiny will be the final installment of the Indiana Jones franchise and is the only one not directed by Steven Spielberg as director James Mangold takes his place. Mangold’s notable films include Ford v. Ferrari, Walk the Line and Girl, Interrupted.
Last month, Ford received a well-deserved standing ovation that lasted five minutes at the 76th Annual Cannes Film Festival as he said farewell to Indiana Jones. He was also given the Palme d’Or Award at the French festival.

Angelina Jolie had the opportunity to star alongside the likes of Cameron Diaz in 2000’s Charlie’s Angels. But she rejected it for another project, even though she was told the film would boost her career.
Why Angelina Jolie rejected ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Angelina Jolie | Frazer Harrison/Getty Images
Jolie was already on the rise when Charlie’s Angels was in development. Movies like The Bone Collector and Girl,Interrupted were increasing her star-power. Winning an Oscar would only further establish Jolie as an A-Lister. She had the opportunity to add another commercial project to her name with Charlie’s Angels.
The feature already had a star-studded roster that included Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz. Given Jolie’s own status at the time, she might have fit right in with the cast. The studio behind Charlie’s Angels believed so too, and tried to recruit the actor.

Must-watch comedy series, eye-opening documentaries and an expansion of the “Bridgerton” universe are among the noteworthy additions to Netflix this month. May 12 sees the premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s new Netflix original film “The Mother,” in which she plays an assassin lured back in for one last job. And on May 23, the documentary “Victim/Suspect” examines how sexual assault victims too often get turned into suspects when they report their assaults.
“Queen Charlotte,” the “Bridgerton” prequel series, arrives on May 4 while a new season of Tim Robinson’s sketch series “I Think You Should Leave” drops on May 30. And if you missed the most recent season of the niche (but delightful) comedy series “Documentary Now!,” you can stream that on Netflix starting May 9.

Netflix recently announced it would be investing $2.5 billion into South Korean programming. Before Squid Game season 2 comes down the pike, however, the first seeds of that investment will bear fruit for Netflix in May 2023.
Netflix’s list of new releases for May 2023 is highlighted by the May 12 release of Korean series Black Knight. Set “in a dystopian 2071 devastated by air pollution,” this show will follow world-saving deliverymen known as “Black Knights.” Other international offerings this month include Japanese sumo drama Sanctuary on May 4 and Spanish crime thriller Muted on May 19.
Netflix’s domestic TV options this month include Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story on May 4. That will be followed by post-apocalyptic animated comedy Mulligan on May 12 and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s TV debut Fubar on May 25. And for those hoping for “triples,” I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson premieres on May 30.
On the movie side of things, Netflix has an unusually busy month.

(Welcome to TV, Interrupted, a series where the /Film team remembers, eulogizes, and makes a case for the revival of TV shows we loved that were canceled far too soon.)
Do you know what's more painful than watching your favorite Netflix show end? Watching Netflix make cancel culture their whole personality. In the case of lamenting over shows that get axed without warning, "Anne With An E" rises to the top. Since the streamer canceled the CBC series in 2019, there hasn't been a day when Netflix tweeted and didn't get angry responses from the show's beloved fandom, imploring them to reconsider their decision. But angry tweets...

Turkish TV dramas continue to make inroads around the world, primarily in linear and pay-tv slots congenial to these sophisticated soaps, which are generally sold in packages of 100 commercial hours per show. But bolder new titles in six-10 episode formats are increasingly being made for streaming platform play.
“The market is hot: we are producing like crazy despite the pandemic,” says Ahmet Ziyalar, chief of Istanbul-based sales and production company Inter Medya, who notes “it’s really hard to find available talents.”
Prices for Turkish product dropped some in the immediate aftermath of the pandemic, he points out, “because traditional broadcasters lost their advertising revenues.”
But ad intake is now starting to pick up. “We are signing more contracts,” says Ziyalar, who adds that due to lower prices “his revenues are the same” as before the coronavirus crisis.

If adventure has a name…it must be Indiana Jones! Phoebe Waller-Bridge will star alongside Harrison Ford, who is returning to the role of the legendary hero archaeologist, for the fifth installment of the iconic franchise.
In addition, the inimitable John Williams will return to score the film, continuing a musical journey which began 40 years ago with Raiders of the Lost Ark. Williams’ unforgettable Indy soundtracks, packed with all the epic thrills, suspense, romance and excitement that fans have come to expect from an Indiana Jones movie, have become as beloved and familiar as the adventurer-hero’s signature hat and whip.
“I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers,” said the film’s director James Mangold. “Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe,...

The SAG Awards have previewed nine of the last 10 Supporting Actress Oscar winners. And since the guild started giving out prizes in 1995, it has foreseen 69% of the eventual Oscar champs in this category. The nominees are often just as similarly aligned.
The 2021 SAG nominees for Best Supporting Actress are Maria Bakalova (“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”), Glenn Close (“Hillbilly Elegy”), Olivia Colman (“The Father”), Yuh-jung Youn (“Minari”), and Helena Zengel (“News of the World”). Our odds currently have Close (37/10) favored to win the award, followed in order by Colman (39/10), Youn (39/10), Bakalova (4/1), and Zengel (9/2).
Close and Colman are the only previous SAG nominees. The two of them vied for the Best Actress award in 2019, with Close (“The Wife”) emerging victorious over Colman (“The Favourite”). Colman is a triple nominee this year, having also earned individual and ensemble bids for her work on the season 4 of the drama series “The Crown.” She shared in...

HBO Max has ordered a two-part documentary about the late actor Brittany Murphy, best known for voicing Luanne Platter in “King of the Hill” and for starring in films like “Clueless” and “8 Mile.” The documentary hails from Blumhouse Television and Pyramid Productions and aims to present a detailed portrait of Murphy’s life, career, and unexpected death amid mysterious circumstances in 2009 when she was only 32. The series, yet to be titled, will work to debunk conspiracy theories and go beyond the tabloid headlines, with new interviews with those closest to Murphy, along with never-before-seen archival footage.
The film is directed by Emmy nominee Cynthia Hill, best known for her 2014 documentary about domestic abuse, “Private Violence,” which premiered the same year in the U.S. Documentary Competition at the Sundance Film Festival. Hill said in a statement, “I agreed to do this film because I think it’s a shame...

HBO Max has ordered a two-part documentary about the life and death of actress Brittany Murphy from Blumhouse Television, the streaming service said Thursday.

The star of films like “Clueless,” “8 Mile,” “Uptown Girls” and “Girl, Interrupted,” Murphy went into cardiac arrest and died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Dec. 20, 2009, after reportedly collapsing at the Los Angeles home she shared with her husband, Simon Monjack. While being lauded by critics’ bodies for visual effects, film editing and original score, Universal’s “The Invisible Man” continues the industry’s trend of snubbing horror films and performances. It left empty-handed when the Golden Globes and SAG Awards released their nominations; its only other chances remain at the Oscars in a list of 15 shortlist nominees for Best Original Score and at the Critics Choice Awards for Best Visual Effects. Elisabeth Moss’ searing absence follows after Lupita Nyong’o in “Us,” Toni Collette in “Hereditary” and many others including the entire production of “The Shining.” The main exception to this rule was when “The Silence of the Lambs,” which celebrated its 30th anniversary on Valentine’s Day, won all Big Five awards at the 1992 Oscars.

Clea DuVall grew up loving Christmas movies. And having lived in Los Angeles her whole life, the 43-year-old actor-turned-writer/director would look forward to how Christmastime made the city seem different for once. “It feels like the closest thing L.A. has to a season, and that’s something that I always looked forward to as a kid,” DuVall says. “Because God, does it get monotonous.”
DuVall had been a ubiquitous actor in movies and on television for years — in dramas such as “Girl, Interrupted,” “Argo” and “Carnivàle,” and comedies like “But I’m a Cheerleader” and “Veep” — when she got the idea for “Happiest Season,” a holiday romantic comedy with a lesbian couple at its center. “I had never seen a movie that really represented my experience,” she says. “Any LGBTQ+ characters were, if they were there at all, side characters.”
That is definitely not the case in “Happiest Season,...
