An episode without John
Tweekums16 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This episode opens with Derek looking after a heavily pregnant, injured woman and her teenaged daughter. A flashback to six months ago shows us how they are members of a family being hunted by a terminator. Sarah and Cameron come to help then when they are in their cottage deep in the woods. Not surprisingly they think Sarah's warnings are the ravings of a mad woman and to make things even more difficult she has no idea which family member is the actual target. We learn that in a flashforward to the future where Derek is trying to rescue the one person who appears to be immune to the effects of the terminators' latest bio-weapon. Back in the woods the family's various secrets come out and it becomes clear that the daughter is the only one not hiding a secret that could tear the family apart.

This episode is rather unusual in that it doesn't feature John Connor in any of the three time periods. In many ways his role in the story is taken by teenaged Lauren Fields; Samantha Krutzfeldt does well in the role. The story itself may me considered filler by some but it was still entertaining; there was some good action as Cameron fought the attacking cyborg as well as a reasonable amount of humour. There is a good amount of tension as we don't know which member of the family is being hunted and there is a feeling that other members could be killed before the actual target is rescued. Overall I'd say this is a pretty good episode; missing it might not spoil the series over all but it would still be a shame as it is well worth watching.

Side Good Episode

Warning: Spoilers
Instead of kidnapping people, why they could not kill the Terminator? With all the experience that they have at this point and with Cameron will be easy, right? Or am I wrong? As they will do. Couldn't they do it before?

Finally a good episode that retakes the old good pace. At the beginning was a little hard to comprehend this time shift, but then everything became more clear. Sadly is another side episode. And, in my opinion, the time travel is becoming overused. And a poor cast.

Whole new stories

Warning: Spoilers
The show opens with Sarah and Cameron bursting into the home of a family with Sarah telling them their in danger from the terminator from the future. We don't know who these people are and have no idea how Sarah came by this information.

She just passingly mentions a hit list over the phone to Derek while holding the family at gun point. Cameron apparently has stopped bringing donuts to the night worker at the library because she has time to spend the night with this family.

There's also a 6 month time jump as well as a 20 year time jump into the future, and there's no John anywhere which hurts the episode even more. Between the previous episode and this one, the show seems to be spinning out of control in different directions and nothing is cohesive. It's all scattered stand alone stories that detract from the main story and I suspect they were filler episodes.

I've noticed that each episode is written and directed by a different person and that explains the mish mash stories with no cohesiveness to them. When you have so many different writers and directors, they all seem to be going their own way and telling their own story and that really hurts the series overall.

I've also noticed that from this point on, the ratings steadily declined until the plug was pulled on it. I can see why audiences bailed because what was such a great first season has devolved into a confusing mess.

I'm going to keep going just to see how this whole story ties up in the end. Hopefully there isn't some huge cliffhanger at the last episode that audiences never got to see resolved....but then again the audience was probably long gone by that point.
