Hmmmm
chrisjw-010266 March 2021
Animation was decent, but story was very middle. It was fun watching him be op but there were a lot of cliche and a lot of random moments that didn't make sense and was almost comedic. Singing toward the last battles with his fan union were random and came out of nowhere and unnecessary. None of the climactic moments were exciting because they were extremely predictable.

The Misfit of Demon King Academy
Tweekums10 October 2020
Demon King Anos Voldigoad had been fighting a war against humanity for two thousand years; in an attempt to create peace he sacrifices his own life. Another two thousand years pass and then he is reincarnated. It is a more peaceful time but not everything has improved; demon royalty now dominates hybrids, so-called misfits of which Anos in now one. He also learns that their magical power has decreased significantly. He attends Demon King Academy as a misfit but quickly realises he is far more powerful than anybody else. Here he makes friends and works to prove he really is the reincarnation of Anos Voldigoad.

This anime series isn't that different from many others, with its hero who is clearly far more powerful than those who wish to defeat him... that said it is still a lot of fun. There is plenty of action which is fun even if the ultimate outcome is of no real doubt. Anos is a solid protagonist and the supporting characters, who join his group, are also fun to watch. The character designs are good as is the animation. Overall I'd say that while this isn't the most original series it is worth watching if you are a fan of the genre.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

I... I think its satire?? it has to be.
dumblezbo8 December 2020
It has to be a satire of the current power fantasy fantasy anime trend. the light novel had authors notes that suggested it was satirical. but by god, the show does not drop the mask. its satire. it has to be satire, because it feels "so bad its good" but there's also some genuinely good things too. the hard magic system is interesting, there's a lot of thought and care put into the world building and lore. I don't think a generic power fantasy would have such a well built world and such good side characters, so it has to be satirical.

Invincible Demon King
littleriver-6525218 February 2023
The anime provides with a character seems to be weak, but is actually incredibly powerful. Throughout the anime, those of higher statuses within society look down upon him because of the family he was reborn into. Little do they know, he is actually the previous demon lord who was reborn. The protagonist builds relationships with both people who are considered to be of lower status, and people who are considered to royals. As time goes on though, those who are considered gifted or special and put in there place, and when they challenge the protagonist, they come to learn along with others that he is far superior and more powerful that they can imagine. It's very satisfying to watch a character who get looked down upon, but ends up on the top overcoming every challenge that is thrown at him, and even dominates those who once looked down on him.

I went in to The Misfit of Demon King Academy episode 1 with zero expectations but wow it's really amazing

This anime feels like something brand new (except OP main character), animation is pretty good and the art style of the characters are also good.

Hope the following episode are good as the episode 1

The Anime that has made me fall in love with it from episode 1.
assassine-2450716 August 2020
If you're watching anime for a long time(like 1 year), then you will fell in love with this anime from the first episode. The plot of this anime is amazing and so the animation style and the visuals. The voice actors are also perfect.! I'm eagerly waiting for it's season 2(even though at the time of writing this review, season 1 has not yet finished). It has become one of my favourites.

Slow start
mr-altex20 July 2020
The start is cliche after cliche and only about 10% of the content is starting some meaningful plot in the first 3 episodes.

It has potential but the unveiling is very slow.

I think I will go read the light novel before making my mind if this is worth watching further. I rather like the humor.

Literally the best of the best
abruthaab13 September 2020
At long last my wish is fulfilled, an arrogant, main character who crushes anyone who rivals him. the anime might not have that much of a good story plot but the MC's actions and attitude makes it undeniably satisfying. Not like some other main characters who are the gentleman type or shy type. A true demon lord, kind, arrogant, cruel, and attractive. Loved it!

okay let's try this again shall we?
HardLight4 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This series is a weird one, and I'll get into it in short order but let's get the formalities out of the way, yes I'll spoil it yes I didn't like it, yes it annoyed me.

So Yes, I'm Going To Spoil The Plot Of This Series While Also Warning People That It Is Being Spoiled Beforehand. It. Does. Not. Contain. Profanity. Or. Insults. Based. On. Appearance. It Does. Not. Include. Phone. Numbers. Or. Anything. Shown. In. The "Help" Section. So This Review Should Be Submitted, Accepted and permitted, alright IMdB?

Anyway

Let's begin with the SPOILERS for the series shall we?

Okay let's start The Demon King returns and is turned into a fully grown man in a month, he attends the Demon King Academy that is set up to try and find or train or something the Demon King while others who clearly aren't him are allowed there at the same time while there's a fight between Royals and Regular people and those known as misfits and half-breeds and fakes that are all there as well while a fake demon king exists in the background manipulating things for century upon century but thats not actually true its a young man who was abandoned by his family and taken in by a spirit sword in the form of a woman who loved him but the young man is actually a 2000 year old hero who was betrayed by his allies and is trying to destroy himself along with humans but not really because he only wants to stop the fighting by creating more fighting but its actually all some general from 2000 years ago who is manipulating everything to make the world his and to remove all demons by using cloned humans as bombs and the magical woman who is his instrument can't stop him but she can act on her own when needed and all the while there's these twin girls who aren't actually twin girls but are one being that are with the demon king who are helping him but aren't really while a backing group of what I can only call a Japanese Idol group sings about the demon king and gives him power to defeat any enemy needed.

That's the plot, that's the summation of this horrendous story and mistake to watch, it doesn't contain profanity, it doesn't NOT warn people and it will as of this sentence, have the spoiler tag clicked so I've covered all my bases IMdB, I know that you might not like the truth of this story being so insanely off the wall but its off the wall and not good.

See what I mean, that's the plot of this series and it makes ZERO sense, the story is all over the place, the pacing is broken and jagged in every place, from characters supposedly being a friend to being an enemy who promised to be a friend who took over and manipulated to control everyone in the demon realm (and I'm going on again with this crazy story that makes no sense).

None of this makes sense.

Its visually spectacular in places, certain magical scenes are stunning (creation of castles) and it's got wonderfully detailed colours

but that isn't what makes a series good, a series is primarily good based on the story it tells, there are far less detailed artistic sights in the world that tell better stories and keep the viewer hooked, this...it's a bishouen series and has all the plot of a piece of popcorn (full of air) and the unfortunate thing is that it doesn't actually do anything worthwhile. There are other series out there that do the same basic story of having an overpowered protagonist who do other things better, either adding drama to the story, adding a compelling story to go through or to have it be a raucous comedy that makes no sense.

This does none of that, the main character is flat and lifeless, doesn't show emotion and is a stand in for a very eager audience to imprint their Favourite character trait on, he isn't funny, goofy, deep, dramatic, complex or tortured, he's just basically God and nothing can stop him, combine that with asspulls of character changing dynamic and useless realisations that turn out to be not permanent, this series is not good, not at all, I made a mistake in watching this series because it doesn't answer anything.

Is there a source for the hatred as is implied? Who knows?! Who really cares in the end, this isn't a story for the plot and its not really a story for the fan service either as there's little-to-none in it.

I regret watching this and you should stay away from it if you are interested.

A Promising Fantasy Anime with Some Execution Hiccups
lipnusis1 June 2023
The Misfit of Demon King Academy presents an intriguing concept within the fantasy genre, but falls short of reaching its full potential due to certain execution hiccups. While it boasts a unique premise, charismatic characters, and exciting magical battles, the series struggles to maintain consistency in its storytelling and pacing. With that said, it still manages to deliver an entertaining experience, earning a solid 7/10 rating.

The story revolves around Anos Voldigoad, a demon king who reincarnates after a thousand years to find that the world has changed drastically. The plot offers an interesting twist on the usual "demon lord" narrative, exploring themes of power, prejudice, and the search for truth. The concept is refreshing and sets the stage for an engaging storyline.

The characters in The Misfit of Demon King Academy bring vitality to the series. Anos, the protagonist, is charismatic and possesses a unique charm, showcasing his overwhelming power while maintaining a lighthearted and confident demeanor. The interactions between Anos and the supporting characters, such as Misha and Sasha, provide some endearing and heartfelt moments that add depth to their relationships.

The magical battles and action sequences are highlights of the series. The animation, while not groundbreaking, effectively portrays the intensity and grandeur of these battles, showcasing Anos' incredible powers and strategic prowess. The incorporation of magic systems and mystical elements adds an additional layer of intrigue to the action.

However, the series stumbles in its pacing and storytelling execution. The plot often rushes through important developments, leaving some moments feeling underdeveloped and lacking the impact they could have had. Additionally, the story occasionally relies on convenient and predictable plot devices, which can hinder the immersion and suspense.

Characterization, while generally enjoyable, also suffers from occasional inconsistencies. Some characters exhibit sudden shifts in personality or motivations, making their actions feel unnatural or disconnected from their established traits. This inconsistency in character development can detract from the overall coherence of the narrative.

Despite these flaws, The Misfit of Demon King Academy still manages to entertain with its unique concept and engaging characters. The series successfully balances lighthearted moments with intense action, providing an enjoyable viewing experience for fans of fantasy anime. While it may not reach the heights of other standout series in the genre, it offers enough charm and excitement to warrant a watch for those seeking an entertaining and occasionally thought-provoking adventure.

In conclusion, The Misfit of Demon King Academy presents an enticing premise and features charismatic characters and thrilling magical battles. However, its inconsistent pacing, occasional narrative shortcomings, and uneven character development prevent it from reaching its full potential. Nevertheless, for fans of fantasy anime looking for an entertaining series with a fresh take on the demon lord trope, The Misfit of Demon King Academy offers an engaging and worthwhile experience.

A really unique and shameless anime that continues to throw surprises
TheGreatGreenBadger29 July 2020
The Misfit of Demon King Academy is one of the most magical and thrilling animes I've seen! Anos Voldigoad, the Demon King from 2000 years back, returns to the normal world and shakes up the Magic school named after him. There's a lot of drama and the action scenes are over the top! It feels original and its not afraid of showing off just how crazy magic can be. It's amazing fun and I highly recommend!

OP MC
Mysterygeneration13 January 2024
The story revolves around the battle between the true Demon King Anos Voldigoad and the typical Hero Kanon, who sacrifices to ensure peace between hybrid demons and ordinary humans. However, 2000 years later, Anos finds that the codependency between hybrid demons and humans has worsened due to the class system dividing royalty and commoners, and the weakened magic. A fake Demon King is also shaping the post-history, wiping out Anos' legacy. In this new timeline, Anos must address various issues, including enrolling into the Demon King Academy, modifying the class system, and addressing the Hero side. The story highlights the consequences of living lives for vengeance and the lore to end something, while also being a "magic-illegible failure" of a misfit.

OP MC Anos Voldigoad is a strong-willed, bad-ass man who has grown rapidly since being a 1-month-old infant. He is a confident man who honors his word and is known for his ability to create fear in unpredictable environments. Unlike Takuya, Anos isn't serious all the time and knows how to crack jokes to allay or make fear. His mother is the best supporting mother after Tohru's deceased mom from Fruits Basket, supporting their only child with his father. Anos' close-knitted family is supportive of their child's development and cooking dinner for more invited people. Anos is a mother figure who is a testament to his strength and determination.

The show, despite lacking in sound, offers a decent experience with its action-packed OP and the addition of VA Tatsuhisa Suzuki's Anos. Suzuki's impressive voice acting and singing skills make him stand out. Tomori Kusunoki returns for another impressive ED, adding to the impressive repertoire of an OST. BOFURI and Otome Game have exceeded expectations in their respective genres, and Maou Gakuin is a standout addition to Silver Link's most ambitious show productions in 2020 alone. The show is highly recommended for elitists, as it is acceptable to follow one's own opinions, despite the world's unkindness towards the minority.

One of the underrated anime
akarunkumar-4861326 July 2021
It's good in everything, the demon king is the strongest. He doesn't seem evil or funny. I think characters like this should be role model for every anime. The attitude is the best. Don't miss the anime because of the rating.

Random plots
duy-73040910 February 2023
It's fun with an OP main character but the pacing is not too fast. But every thing just happens randomly. The villains are powerful at one time and suddenly be beaten totally.

The civilian are against the main character because of nearly no reason at all. (yes there is bit why do they believe in the opposite but not him?) And what the hell is the SS2? Plots just are thrown to a mix of everything. Like whaaaa then whatttt and whhhaaaat??? Nothing is well explained and there are just more and more out of no where info.

And the villains now are forced to be villains, then they just decided to be in hood side because they just know how to fight back? The boss is beaten easily and just jumped to other place then forbid our main to go into it?

No up and low story, just see a guy all the way fight his way with not much effort stage by stage to the end. Seems I play a pay to win game like clash of clans.already know the ending by seeing first 3 episode.Only one emotion of the main character - cool only.

the demon king
WeAreLive4 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The anime summary is as follows:

Having led a life of warfare, death and destruction, the unbeatable Demon King Anos Voldigoad decides to leave it all behind and reincarnate into a future era, hoping it will bring him some peace and tranquility. He is reborn into a peaceful age, where magic users must attend an academy to develop their abilities. Having kept his memory and power, Anos quickly marks himself out as an exceptional student. But he senses something is amiss in this era, and decides that investigating this will be his quest, alongside his more entertaining school life.

For the anime itself I thought it was a very fun one to watch if not the best. The characters are mostly well written. the voice acting is excellent. For those who say dubs aren't good wait until you hear Anos.

So to conclude I hope you consider joining Anos and his friends and watch this anime.
