Exclusive: Following a competitive situation with what we hear were four offers, TriStar Pictures has snapped up film rights to Wesley Wang’s nothing, except everything., a short film that Wang will adapt for the big screen as writer and director, with Darren Aronofsky’s Protozoa producing.
A 19-year-old currently studying economics at Harvard, Wang made nothing, except everything. during his senior year of high school, seeing it go viral on YouTube and win the Grand Jury Prize at Indianapolis’s Indy Shorts Film Festival. Billed as a romantic sci-fi thriller, the film watches as a graduating high schooler navigates a world of seemingly inevitable chaos by finding order in the number 7. Based on that logline, it’s not hard to see how Harvard alum Aronofsky might have sparked to the material, similar as it is to that of his 1998 debut feature, Pi.

Back in 2021 Terror Films released a small horror film called Apartment 413, which explored mental illness through the genre of horror, using black mould in the air conditioning unit as a driver for the breakdown of the protagonist’s mental state.
Now Black Mold explores similar territory as photographer Brooke and her pal Tanner sneak into abandoned, off-limits buildings for the sake of their art and also the adrenaline rush. But when the daredevil pair break into their holy grail – Franklin Hill, a large facility with a history – they encounter a volatile threat that holds them captive. The longer their attacker keeps them there, the more it becomes clear there’s something else profoundly wrong with the place…

Technicolor and its former CEO, Frederic Rose, have been indicted in France on charges of fraud and breach of trust in connection with their role in the bankruptcy of Tarak Ben Ammar’s post-production group, Quinta Industries, and its subsequent acquisition of the company in January 2012.
The indictment, handed down by the high court of Nanterre, follows a criminal complaint filed by Quinta Communications, the parent company of Quinta Industries, in April 2012, which prompted a thorough preliminary investigation by French authorities. During the seven-year probe, computer and phone records of executives, including Rose’s, were examined. Rose, who had joined Technicolor from Alcatel-Lucent in 2008, was ousted from the company last month and replaced by Richard Moat.

From humble beginnings, Dogwoof has quietly built up a thriving documentary production, sales and distribution company, and has just enjoyed its first £1m UK box-office hit.
Since its inception in 2003, London-based Dogwoof has always been perceived as a niche operator. Its company name has a kitchen-table, low-key feel. Documentaries, which long ago became its exclusive focus, are viewed as a marginal activity by much of the film industry. Dogwoof’s prolific activity as a UK distributor has tended to pigeonhole it, even as it has expanded into other areas of operations. Its expansion from its original team of two has been slow and steady.

On paper it’s a western with everything — a major star, decent supporting players, a cult director and sideways references to the blacklisting years. But even with its ya-gotta-see-it-to-believe-it high noon showdown scene, Joseph H. Lewis’s last feature film is still a lower-tier United Artists effort. Sterling Hayden goes up against Sebastian Cabot and Nedrick Young, armed with a, with a . . . aw, you probably know already.

Justin Timberlake came under fire from critics on Twitter for praising Jesse William's moving speech at the Bet Awards on Sunday night (June 26).
The Grey's Anatomy actor and activist gave a powerful, impassioned speech about the Black Lives Matter movement and racial equality as he picked up the Humanitarian Award at the Black Entertainment Television (Bet) Awards in Los Angeles.

A number of users on Twitter slammed him for remaining largely quiet on Black Lives Matter issues while appropriating black culture - a subject Jesse raised in his speech. A Texas oilfield driller and star of "Black Gold" on TruTV was arrested March 27 on drinking and driving charges. According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Brandon Watson was picked up on his second charge of driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, as well as two charges of failing to stop after hitting an unattended vehicle.
Police say they arrested Watson at one of three alleged hit-and-run accident sites, after he became argumentative. The oil driller was allegedly unsteady on his feet, and slurring his speech. In addition to the hit and runs, police also report he hit a utility pole. He was released on a $1,500 bond. Watson has previously been documented on the show getting arrested for driving on a suspended license.
"Black Gold" is a reality series that follows the workers of three different Texas oil rigs. The show ended it's fifth season in February.

Last week's Doha Tribeca film festival showcased an uprising of Arab films shot straight from the streets
Last week, delegates from across the Arab world met in Doha to discuss the future of a liberated Libya. Meanwhile, across town, Tarak Ben Ammar was launching his new movie. Not every week, but some weeks I hit a midweek slump on Wednesday. I just look at what I have left to do this week and experience a nearly overwhelming desire to crawl back into bed until someone forces me out. It's an attitude thing, as I don't have a ton extra to do this week than I do any other week, but somehow that doesn't really seem to be the issue at hand. Anyway, we've got a few premieres and more finales on TV tonight, gearing up towards next week when the regular shows come back in force and all those series premieres that have been hyped for the last six weeks finally begin to show up to be judged according to their content rather than their sexy commercials (Looking at you, "Undercover"). So that's something to look forward to. Here's your Wednesday night TV:

“It’s a pilot. I can’t talk much about it yet,” he says.
Hot environment, or cold?
“Cold,” he laughs. “We’re actually going into a hole in the ground We’re going to be down there with the coal miners. It’s a whole different world.”
Which is how the preternaturally peppy Beers likes it.
“I love getting out there.

Returning for a second season last night, August 19th (new episodes airing Wednesdays at 10pm) is truTV's Black Gold, the series that focuses on the lives of Texas oil workers. Brought to you by the creator of Ice Road Truckers and Deadliest Catch, Black Gold is another installment of the reality television genre's most compelling efforts. Being a roughneck is a job that perhaps does not get much respect, but these men are deadly serious about their work, and they'd better be, because one wrong move could easily cost them their lives. This season the show focuses on three crews running Rig 28, and the first episode introduces a new man to the crew, the return of a veteran, and lays out an impossible task the roughnecks will have to complete in order to save their jobs. Veteran roughneck Gerald Williams gets Cheston a job, but the city boy has trouble adjusting to the work,...

With the economy continuing to struggle, the stakes are higher than ever for roughnecks working the oil rigs in Texas. These guys can.t afford to make any mistakes that might...

FremantleMedia North America is in talks to acquire Thom Beers' Original Prods.
Beers, who founded Original in 1999, has created a distinct "blue collar hero" unscripted programming brand with such shows as "Deadliest Catch," "Ice Road Truckers" and "Axeman." With a dozen series on television, mostly on cable, he's one of the most prolific reality producers.
A deal would expand Beers' existing business relationship with Fremantle. In August, Fremantle picked up international distribution rights to several Original series: "Verminators," "America's Port, L.A.," "Hard Hats," "1,000 Ways to Die" and "Black Gold."
It's been an active year for acquisitions in the reality field, led by Shine Group's buy of Reveille and Endemol USA's purchase of a controlling stake in Cris Abrego and Mark Cronin's 51 Minds. Both deals could reach $200 million if financial targets are met.
Financial terms for a potential Fremantle/Original deal are unclear, but observers value it at less than $100 million.
