Funky Monster Movie Feel

What About Bob? is an episode which puts Eureka back on track with what worked so well for the series in season one. We have actual Sheriff work for Jack to do (as opposed to his typical attempts of helping to avert crises started by the local townsfolk), there is advancement on the Allison-Stark front; there is a wink-at-the-viewer subplot, and Eva is less abrasive. All nicely done. The primary plot of the episode is presented with a funky monster movie feel and look - which is strangely fresh for an old fashioned construct. There are some lovely surprises included in the episode as well. Overall it looks like Eureka is back on track.

What About Bob Goof!
sisyphus200011 August 2008
The basic story line was plausible considering we are talking about Eureka. Basically a world within a world story line. Frances Fisher's character is trying to turn Eureka into a profitable operation....and she learns about Lab 27, which is a self-sustaining world built underneath Eureka.

But I digress. I just wanted to point out that there was a big goof at the end of the show. During the last few minutes of the show, Fisher's character is looking at old films. One film case is dated some date in February 1939. There is a notification on the case that states that if the case is found opened, you should call a 202-xxx-xxx telephone number.

Unfortunately for Eureka, area codes were not developed until the 1940s and were only put into use in 1947.

Seven digit phone numbers were not used in 1939 either.

I am very much surprised that these goofs weren't caught. I guess someone made a big OOOOPPPSS!

Carter, Henry, and Stark

One of my favorite lines in the Eureka series is delivered in this episode. As Thorn is updating Zane about containment of the threat and he updates her with the new facts on the situation, claiming she won't be needing those. "Carter, Henry and Stark: There is your money team. They know what they are doing." I've always loved the episodes when Nathan Stark and Jack Carter had to work together. They had such great chemistry with their animosity. It was always fun to watch. Add Henry into the equation and it automatically upped the watchability. All in all, I know this isn't a perfect episode, but I love the character interaction and story line.

Attack of the Snak People

Warning: Spoilers
I've been through this series several times now and this episode has to be the worst of all five seasons. Here's some of the reasons why: We are to swallow that to "support the Mars mission" whoops, I mean "proposed" Mars mission, GD built a multi-billion dollar huge hole in the ground and created a self-contained Eco-system so that we could also do this on Mars. That would at least triple the budget. Not happening. "Bob" is somehow growing "extinct" plants. That's also impossible. Extinct means they no longer exist. The Eco-system has no predators, even poisonous snakes. Eco-systems MUST to have predators to maintain the balance of species. Absolutely no one at GD is aware that the video feed is being hacked and watched by the town. Isn't this a "secret" project? Thorne makes numerous changes and then reverses her decisions just to cover up her taking film from the museum (that no one knows about anyway)? Fargo says: "Best season ever!" Not even close.
