The story for "Gustaakh (The Arrogant)" is based on a visual gag that Vijesh and Yashoda had for several years - of a sophisticated cyberpunk world being attacked by a cute teddy bear monster.
Just as the shoot for "Gustaakh (The Arrogant)" was completed, Mumbai-based Director Vijesh Rajan and VFX Supervisor Yashoda Parthasarthy were urgently called in for a 3-month shoot schedule in Delhi for Netflix original series "Leila", for which Vijesh and Yashoda were heading the VFX department. This caused the post-production for Gustaakh to be put on hold for over 4 months.
The VFX for "Gustaakh (The Arrogant)" was completed at director Vijesh Rajan's home office by using borrowed computers and GPU render boxes. The VFX team comprised of only four artists: Viraj Patil, director Vijesh Rajan, VFX Supervisor Yashoda Parthasarthy and Jishnu Chatterjee, who had joined as an intern in the last moment.
The entire production budget for "Gustaakh (The Arrogant)" was spent on the shoot itself.
"Gustaakh (The Arrogant)" is the second video collaboration between writer-director Vijesh Rajan, writer-vfx supervisor Yashoda Parthasarthy, DOP Harshvir Oberai, editor Shreyas Beltangdy, and the alternative rock band The Local Train. The first being the hit single "Khudi".
