What an amazing episode. Talk about the perfect season/series finale. Is yet to be known if there will be a 4th season but let me tell you, if the show ended with this episode I would be more then happy. This season finale was written in such a way that it's an incredibly strong series finale if it ends up being that, but it creatively opens the door to a season 4 if the show were to be renewed. So...Tim Riggins and Lyla won't end together,Lyla decided to go to the best college she could get in (Tim supported her decision) and Riggins after hearing a good speech by his brother, will most likely go to college as well in order to take a degree. He'll be the first Riggins with a degree.Tyra achieves her dream by getting into whatever college she was trying to get in.Apparently she and Landry will be together, what an odd yet fitting couple. Now Saracen; who is a fantastic character (and probably my favorite along with Riggins) proved what an AMAZING human being he is when he decided to stay in Dillon and brought his grandma back home for good.Yeah, sure it was sad seeing him sacrifice his future and the chance to learn about something he loves (art), probably something he could make a career of..but as he said, his grandma was the only person who never left...who never abandoned him. The scenes with his grandma are usually heartbreaking and we saw how tormented Matt was after leaving his grandma in that place( some sort off home for old people)for the first time so it was absolutely fantastic to see Saracen taking that decision.I known I would do the same.Since Saracen will stay in Dillon he and Julie will still be together which is great, they were one of the most interesting couples on the show and their chemistry was great. This season finale contains a cliffhanger related to Coach Taylor...Dillon was split in two reinstating East Dillon High...Eric Taylor's contract was not renewed (it was more like a firing) but he was offered the spot of head coach of East Dillon High's team.In the last scene of the episode Eric drives with Tami to the East Dillon High field and the episode ends with both of them contemplating a destroyed field with no conditions at all.

This was an amazing episode and it was a more then satisfactory ending for all the characters.Camera work? Perfect! Musical score? Mind-blowing as usual. Performances? Top notch, specially Kyle Chandler's. The writers did an amazing job trough the 3 seasons and I knew they would not let the fans down.Definitely one of the best TV shows of all time.

Season Three
zkonedog4 July 2019
One of the hallmarks of the first two seasons of "Friday Night Lights" was the show's ability to really use its ensemble cast to the fullest. Each week would shine the spotlight on a different character scenario or two, and if those weren't the ones that appealed to you...well, you knew that the next week it would be something different. While this third season does a good job of moving certain storylines forward, it also turns rather repetitive at times in terms of the areas it really focuses in on.

For a basic summary, Season Three is one in which we (as viewers) say goodbye to some established figures and welcome some "new blood" into the fold. Because the writers strike of 2007 completely screwed over Season Two's "ending", the beginning episodes of this year basically just get us back up to speed. From there, a few things given to us in this installment include:

-Mrs. Taylor's new role as school principle and the new perspective it gives her on certain issues. -The continued evolution of the Tyra/Landry & Tim/Lyla relationships. -Jason Street doing everything he can to provide for his new "family" -The ongoing foibles of Buddy Garrity. -A new QB threat to Matt Ceracen.

There are some parts of Season Three that work very well. The chemistry within the Taylor family is still the backbone of the show, and it still never fails to produce emotion in nearly every episode. The "new QB in town" angle is also probably the strongest one of the entire season. Tami's new turn as school principle also brings up some moral dilemmas that prove quite interesting.

The trouble with this season, though, is that all the other angles fall under the following two categories: Either they are done too quickly (Smash Williams, Jason Street), or they linger on for far too long (Tyra's rebellious streak, the ticking time bomb that is Tim Riggins). More specifically, the characters of Tyra & Tim (who really stood out in the Second Season) are given more screen time but less character development in the sense that they don't seem much different from beginning to end. It is probably a case of the writers knowing that such drama works with most viewers and being a bit scared (in the wake of cancellation) to stray too far from the formula.

Overall, then, I can't rate Season Three of "Friday Night Lights" nearly as well as its two predecessors. Whereas those earlier seasons were high drama with pockets of repetition, I felt that the formula was flipped in this case. The ending of the season set up a scenario that looks like it has great potential to produce an entertaining fourth season, so I'm not giving up hope just yet. I'm just a bit concerned that the show has "slipped" a bit with each subsequent season so far.

Season (series?) Finale was possibly my least favorite episode
DonnaToo25 April 2009
I don't know anyone who watches Friday Night Lights that doesn't love it. This season finale felt like a 90210 finale when they graduated from high school. The episode attempted to do way too much with all of the main story lines as opposed spreading it out over a few episodes. It was probably done for the fans in case there is no renewal, but it sacrificed the episode with an abundance of sentimentality, was totally predictable, and completely failed in the fresh ideas department. Regardless how a regular viewer feels about the episode, one would rather have the episode than not. I just believe the show sacrificed its usual superior writing standards.
