Warning: Spoilers
Chandramukhi, a name well known to almost every film watcher in Kollywood. So when you watch the film, you can't help but compare both. The plotline, first of all, does not correspond with the first film. So many questions were raised. So, the vettaiyyan who killed Chandramukhi is not the real vettaiyan but his friend who killed him and overtook his crown. So does that mean Rajinikanth's character from the first film isn't actually the real vettaiyan??! Also, there was no indication of Gunasekhar's broken leg in the first film?! No one touched Chandramukhi's room for 17 years, yet the room was super clean?!!! And I honestly never understood the back story of the samiyaar with Chandramukhi.

If the point of the movie is to be a sequel or a prequel to Chandramukhi 1, then, sorry to say, Chandramukhi 2 did not justify it.

ALSO, HOW DID HE NOT REALISED IT EARLIER THAT THERE IS FIRE WHEN THE WHOLE PLACE WAS LITERALLY BURNING DOWN. LIKE REALLY??!

The music and background score, in my opinion, did not meet expectations. I was looking away for almost all the songs :( Especially the very famous Raa Raa song. Very disappointed in this rearranged version.

The actors have done their roles nicely. Kangana has done a perfect portrayal of Chandramukhi's grace, elegance, and beauty. Lawrence was fine, even though sometimes it seemed like an exaggerated performance. Vadivelu, as always, rocked, but the comedy scenes weren't delivered as they're expected to be. Laxmi was a clever choice to portray Chandramukhi, and the revealing scene of her as Chandramukhi was simply well made!

Overall, if you aren't too much into detailed plotline and looking for a family entertainer to pass your time, then Chandramukhi 2, can be considered as a choice. :)

P. S. I still can't seem to wrap my head around how in the first scene, Pandian rode the bike straight into the bus and saved the kids AND how he managed to lift the girl out to that kolam. EPPUDRA.

While Chandramukhi 1 boasted a meticulously crafted screenplay brimming with entertainment, mystery, and thrills, its sequel, Chandramukhi 2, unfortunately falls short in comparison. In the second installment, the narrative treads a familiar path, rendering everything rather predictable. It fails to deliver the captivating entertainment and spine-tingling thrills that its predecessor offered, often veering towards boredom. The climax, in particular, drags on endlessly, testing the patience of the audience.

Lead actor Lawrence's exaggerated performance proves to be a significant irritant, feeling entirely out of place for the character he portrays. The first half of the film lacks the spark of excitement, only coming to life when the flashback episode unfolds in the second half. On a positive note, Kangana's presence graces the screen with her beauty, and her acting and dance sequences, while decent, lack the impact one would hope for. Some might argue that she doesn't quite fit the character as envisioned.

On the technical front, the cinematography and set design shine, showcasing the visual prowess of the production team. Unfortunately, the songs fail to leave a mark. Moreover, the direction adheres to an outdated style that doesn't align with contemporary storytelling trends.

In conclusion, I cannot recommend watching Chandramukhi 2, either in theaters or on OTT platforms.

why is such talent wasted?
noonoonomore18 October 2023
Kangana is no doubtedly on of the few best actresses we have right now. Why is Indian cinema wasting her on such craps and non actresses like Taapsee get to work with Rajkumar Hirani and SRK?? The movie was one of the stupidest I've watched and I'm sorry that she is wasted on this. I only watched it for her, ended up with a headache. She was great but the rest of the cast, the story, direction, writing etc. Was crap. Just crap. Watch it if you're a die hard Kangana fans, her appearance is pleasant, though for a very short time, but you have to tolerate the rest of the stupidity and below average cast for it or like me fast forward to her part.

This movie exists only to exploit our nostalgia
isaacsundaralingam28 September 2023
I just want to vent a little about Chandramukhi before I say anything about Chandramukhi 2... both directed by P. Vasu. The only good thing to come out of Chandramukhi 2 is the realization that P. Vasu probably had not the slightest clue what Chandramukhi was actually about (as it simply was a remake of a Malayalam movie named Manichitrathazhu), and that he just found himself lucked into a successful movie. Now, I haven't watched the original Malayalam version myself, but I always thought I had a pretty good idea of what it might be.

It has always been my opinion that Chandramukhi is essentially a psychological thriller masquerading as horror, with carefully thought-out characters and conflicts, but only underneath 3-4 layers of P. Vasu's horrible directing. But sure, it was entertaining, so I was willing to give it a pass.

Ignoring the totally unnecessary fight scenes, the 'hearing your every thought' aspect of Rajni's character (which was used for way more than mere comic relief), the flying 50 meters across the living room, the cringe, the melodrama, the cheese, the continuity issues... essentially each and every little point P. Vasu might have added on top of the existing core concept... It was still at the very least entertaining.

Well, Chandramukhi 2 is proof enough to convince you that it was all a fluke. P. Vasu just happened to find a script where all the heavy lifting was already done, and where he need not do anything more but make it worse. Sadly, Chandramukhi 2 doesn't afford him the luxury of a pre-existing script, so the director ends up embarrassing himself on the big screen showing us exactly how he lucked himself into success 18 years ago.

Now onto Chandramukhi 2... You watch the trailer; you know it's bad. You watch the movie; you're surprised it's worse. There isn't a single good thing about this movie (except of course my P. Vasu rant), and it even goes as far as to be insulting to any and all members of its audience.

Raghava Lawrence no longer looks like a real person in his ungodly attempt to be Rajni; from his looks, to body language, to speech patterns... everything screams a cheap fake. The acting was unbelievably poor, the comedy was painful, the storyline was embarrassing, and I'd rather get possessed than to sit through another 150 minutes of a Raghava Lawrence ego trip.

I have also always blamed the filmmakers for these type of horrible movies, but now reading through the only 3 IMDB user reviews as of writing this, it's clear that the blame is also on these absolute braindead low IQ goobers who enable these kind of worthless movies to be made.

Don't waste your money
nidhisunil-5812530 September 2023
The movie was terrible. The CGI is terrible. The whole thing was ridiculous. The only good thing was vadivelu but the rest of it was nonsense.

There were things flying for no reasons. The concept of ghost was not there at all. The director just made the screams loud, that's not horror concept.

Please don't look forward to anything for this movie. I am not even sure how the cast agreed to this ridiculous plot. There were so many unnecessary scenes. It took so long for Chandramukhi to surface and on top of that once she surfaced the were other things as well but it didn't make sense. Don't waste your time on this please.

Garbage
jinufrancis115 October 2023
Considered as the one of the worst film in Tamil. Is this a sequel? I was bored to complete this film. It took 2 days to finish this film. I was like watching serial. Just wished to finish the film. Such a boring film. This movie destroys the first film. And Vadivelu' s comedy become more worse in this film. I couldn't believe it is the same director who directed the first part. And mainly the VFX, they've used kinemaster for VFX I think. Looks like low poly rendering. I wondered how this film was failure. And main thing, the acting. They were acting like low paid. SLEEPING PILLS. Highly not recommended.

Warning: Spoilers
Attar waste👎👎👎👎.

Though kangana acting was good but not even suitable for this role. Copy cat of part 1. Every scene remembers only Rajini and Jyothika, u don't feel like that RL and Kangana was acting in the movie. That too Vettaiyan role and make up of RL is completely kaari thupura maadiri iruku.

Worst comedy and worst story.

Don't waste your time and money. If not booked, you guys are a lucky person.

0/5.

The story was very predictable cause you already know what had happened before, and speaking of which there wasn't any suspense left in the first part whatsoever for them to unwrap in a part 2, so there was no suspense at all.

Wasted sequel, wasted talent
premlalpremkumar2 October 2023
To start with, the movie is excessively loud. I went to watch the movie for the pure nostalgia, but you are betrayed by poor writing, poor screenplay, and all round poor acting. The movie plays like a mega serial right from the start. If you were expecting Vadivelu to recreate the magic from Chandramukhi 1, you will be wrong! Nobody can save this movie.

The graphics are horrible. The CGI is cringe work. The dog fight sequence is among the worst.

If you thought Keeravani' s background score and music would be worth the watch, you are once again wrong!

Finally, the direction! You would not have expected P. Vasu to have directed this movie.

Disaster!
aswinkrishna-138741 October 2023
The Former was a cult classic which literally had a very strong screenplay due to its Original versions from Other language. But This is better be called as a Spoof or remake's remake. Definitely It is not a Sequel. Raghava Lawrence gave his part as vettaiyan which looks so pathetic and Kangana Ranaut couldn't even match with the former performances of other legends. The Unofficial Sequel Nagavalli was even better compared to this. Dir P. Vasu insulted the whole fanbase of chandramukhi. Superstar Rajinikanth chose Enthiran over this which the best thing that happened in his life. Extremely Bad.

Time Waste Money Waste Comedy Waste Songs Waste Acting waste Storyline waste Direction Waste

Total movie is waste.

This Movie is similar to Chandramukhi 1 where it had fantastic comedy and storyline but this movie is just a simple remake of it and actors failed to deliver the expectation we had...Songs were also not good. The only thing which is good in movie is Kangana Ranaut dance and her role as Chandramukhi...Even the Intro fight scene doesn't have any logic...

If you wish to waste your time then you can simply go for this movie...I have wasted my sleep time and went for this movie but at the end what I had is disappointment.

As chandramukhi 1 was fantastic and Rajini sir done a fabulous job we all are expecting how could it run smooth without rajini sir but let me tell you this movie has done a awesome jobs. Why .. 1st of all star cast specially kangana ranaut. She is a fantastic Actress and she proved once again. The movie 1st part was hilarious and second part was crucial. Especially the climax. Every movie need a good climex and it's up to the mark. Lawrence sir is like the pioneer of ghost movie. Now the bgm and songs.. hindi songs translated very average and bgm superb which every ghost movie needs. Overall It's a family movie.

Good movie and it is entertaining us really well and also it makes sense. Chandramugi 2 is the best sequel for chandramuki. So, please watch this movie in theatres. It looks very vad from outside but in theatres it is very good than iravan. Iraivan is so waste, it is the movie of jayam Ravi and they are not performing well to reach out the level of chandramuki...

So please watch this one on theatres, don't miss it . First victory for kangana raut and it is the movie which has some spoof scenes but it is a entertaining film with mysteries inside the movie also... make sense to go to this movie.

Total waste of money and time
rshekhar-5895921 October 2023
Kangana has become a stale actress with lack of variations in expression or dialogue delivery. The movie is so boring it feels like watching an entire ektaa kapoor soap in one sitting. There is no rhyme or reason to the storyline which keeps dragging on in multiple directions without any logical direction. Dialogues are so childish it seems like kangana improvised every sentence thinking she's making it "better". I would have left after first half if I hadn't fell asleep twice during the movie. I wouldn't watch it even for free on OTT so if anyone has not seen it yet, save your time, money and brain cells!

Comment: Cinema Videography is worst than some cheapskate suntv serials. Storyline extremely miserable. Even the Pre school students can develop an innovative storylines. Director P. Vasu really need to learn how to make movie to entertain customers. Actor Ragawa Laurence should go to acting school to learn some basic acting skills. I hate his performance in the movie. 😤 I don't know what actress Rathiga tried in this movie. The comedy in this movie absolutely irritating. My ears are cried for every songs in this movie. The make up and hairstyle of Ragawa Laurence in this movie is really causing me nausea feeling. I will not watch Ragawa Laurence's upcoming movies anymore. I'll not watch P. Vasu's movie anymore.

Suggest watching Manichitrathazhu instead of the movie
richardz-568011 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Horrible cash grab movie with no thought given to the story. It questions the intelligence of the audience. This movie has multiple actors who have zero impact on the story. The first Chandramuki movie was very good even though it's scene by scene remake of the original Malayalam movie, because it had decent cast , good music, and the plot was already solid. This movie has non of this and exists only to exploit the nostalgia of the audience, and to make matters worse the lead actors antics are barely watchable and is such that it would give Balakrishna a run for his money. Not recommended unless your fan of the lead actor.

SUCH DISAPPOINTMENT
adrianijasmin2 October 2023
CGI-BAD MAKE UP- BAD SCREENPLAY- BAD, BORING, PREDICTABLE

UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE. THIS IS 2023, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER SCREENPLAY AND CGI ETC BUT SUCH A WASTE.

The story has too many unnecessary dialogue. Lack of emotion. Poor taste for comedy scene, action scene. Nothing is special. Except kangana song. Eventho she was rather stiff at dancing she made it BUT HER MAKE UP AS THE GHOST IS PRETTY PATHETIC. Jyothika was better and THAT WAS IN 2005. Come on! She expression was subpar meanwhile the hero did a better job representing himself as the antagonist. The storyline is surprisingly so average and just waste of time.

Cheap vulgar cliched

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is a complete disgrace and an insult to the first movie. Lawrence needs to be banned from acting in movies, he thinks his audience is dumb and brainless and he thinks he is funny.

The movie has everyone hamm acting like junior artistes. Overacting to the extent that you need to keep fast forwarding to stop you from throwing up.

Tamil comedy relies on this age old comedy concept of insulting others which they think is funny. It's dated, boring and cringe.

They could have just named this movie Kanchana 4 or something because it falls in that category of dumb movies.

Couldn't wait to watch the movie till Kangana comes on screen cos she cannot rescue this movie even though he suits the role of a crazy psychopath.

PANDIAN12062116 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Inspite of super star charisma its P Vasu screenplay that lead to a mega blockbuster of this prequel,But this time its totally a senseless screenplay which was out of the sequence... Also Vasu overconfident of replacing Vettaiyan(Sengotaiyyan) character was a suicidal move... Despite Kangana methodical act, make up killed her CHANDRAMUKHI replica... MM Keeravani music remains mute & does fail to recreate the magic of vidyasagar and the songs are below average... Vadivelu repeatative mannerism is embarrassing and fails to contribute to the movie... Overall its like somebody reading the plot behind the screen while u r watching it...better save ur golden time...laka laka laka laka.

Even Kangana's Pleasant Extended Cameo Couldn't Save This Extraordinary Trash
SAMTHEBESTEST30 September 2023
Chandramukhi 2 Review: 1.5/5*

Even Kangana's Pleasant Extended Cameo Couldn't Save This Extraordinary Trash

Chandramukhi 2 Review: P. Vasu decides to bring a sequel to his super hit Chandramukhi (2005) after 18 years, only to destroy its popularity. Malayalam director Fazil made a pathbreaking masterpiece, "Manichitrathazhu" (1993), so that others can copy paste and make money. But you don't ever surpass the original masterpiece. It's like, you can copy and paste "The Shawshank Redemption" or any other masterpiece of your choice and make a good film, but you can never match it. Manichitrathazhu is one such Indian film that's not too popular in other markets because it comes from a small industry. There have been 4-5 remakes of Manichitrathazhu, and I don't need to tell you how all of them fail to match the legacy of the original masterwork. Now just tell me, if everyone couldn't match the original even after copy-pasting, then how would they even think of creating a new story as a sequel? How illogical and silly it is! Chandramukhi 2 is like, "I want to sell a new product under the brand Chandramukhi (which isn't original) by telling the same story again as in the next chapter". When you watch Chandramukhi 2, and I hope you survive it (like I did), then you'll realise that you didn't actually watch Chandramukhi 2; it was the recipe of Chandramukhi again served in a different hotel. Manichitrathazhu was made in the 90s, and Chandramukhi 2 was made after 3 decades, but the storytelling is 3 decades behind Manichitrathazhu. It's an extremely pernicious and injurious watch. Believe me, you won't just scratch your head; you will slap yourself for watching it.

Chandramukhi 2 is about a rich family struggling with problems in their lives, which is led by Ranganayagi (Raadhika Sarathkumar). They travel out of town and visit their deity's temple to seek blessings and arrange a special pooja that will solve their problems. Pandiyan (Raghava Lawrence) joins them with his niece and nephew, whom the family abandoned years ago. A priest tells them they can't attend Pooja at Devi's temple because Chandramukhi (Kangana Ranaut) has cursed the place, and whoever goes there gets killed instantly. Pandiyan still manages to light a lamp in the temple, making Chandramukhi more furious, but he isn't a normal person like others. It is then revealed that Pandiyan was Sengottaiyan, the man who caused Chandaramukhi's death. Seeking revenge as Durgashtami is near, Chandramukhi possesses one of the ladies in the house before coming to her real avatar. Will Pandiyan be able to save the family from Chandramukhi's curse?

P. Vasu has written an utterly disastrous script with literally no original moments of its own. It's the same idea again, and the tricks are the same. Can't imagine someone trying to use the 90s pathbreaking trick of completing revenge in 2023, and that too with a terribly outdated presentation. Manichitrathazhu/Chandramukhi was a psychological horror-thriller, as the film never presented Chandramukhi as a real ghost. Here, Mr. Vasu murdered that sentiment too by showing Chandramukhi as an evil ghost in real life. Even a medical term for personality disorder is killed here. How can you make a sequel by changing the identity of your main character? If it was so easy, then why didn't Chandramukhi come to reality in the 90s? And gosh, what a horrible screenplay it has. The same flying people, mindless action, B-grade expression, C-grade comedy, D-grade dubbing, and exhaustingly trashy content. Chandramukhi's backdrop with Vettaiyya and Sengottaiyan was nothing short of a Bhojpuri action flick. How can someone present ancient characters in such a manner? A vijaynagar's king and his warrior would start fighting for a girl without even asking who she is or what she wants. Kingdoms are switched as it's a TV channel that you can change with one click in one second. C2 is anything but logical writing. It's atrociously bad.

How bad is Raghava Lawrence's performance? Don't ask. I may need to form new adjectives to describe him. That Laka Laka Laka gave me a headache, and his expressions made me tear my ticket down. Not just him, but the director also wasted a talent like Raadhika Sarathkumar. How can you waste Raadhika ma'am? Vadivelu got on my nerves with his cheap dialogues, while Lakshmi Menon had one or two good scenes. Srushti Dange, Mithun Shyam, Subiksha Krishnan, Mahima Nambiar, Vignesh, and others join this circus to act like it was never a serious show. Kangana Ranaut appears in her full-fledged role when the film is nearing 2 hours of runtime and yet manages to give the best performance in the film. It's nowhere close to what Shobna did, Jyotika did, or Vidya Balan did, but much better than anyone else in Chandramukhi. She was a pleasant surprise and the only pleasant thing in the whole movie. However, I firmly believe that she desperately needs to improve her script choices now.

Speaking of technical aspects, Chandramukhi 2 is far too low to be compared to its predecessor, which was made two decades ago. The action scenes are annoying, the production design is low-grade in the entire first half, the editing lacks grip, the cinematography has no creativity, and the background score isn't even enough to scare a cat. P. Vasu is the main culprit for writing such a bad story and then making it worse with his direction. He has given us many good films in the 80s and 90s, so this was an unexpected debacle. Chandramukhi 2 is his honest attempt to destroy the standard of his own work, Chandaramukhi, and he did it successfully. The fad for late sequels is killing the content and memories of the first film these days. Gadar 2 did it for Bollywood, and Chandramukhi did it for Tamil cinema. This time, it was extraordinarily grotty. If you are thinking about watching Chandramukhi, change your mind now.

Not Chandramukhi
kjvinesh1 November 2023
There is some wrong here , in Chandramukhi 1 it was told vetaiyan was the one who killed chandramukhi and her boyfriend so she was waiting to kill him but now you are showing it's sengotayan who is a new character that killed her and the BF and chandramukhi wants to kill him also?? How many people does chandramukhi want to kill??? , uncle forgot your own story?? Not sure if this was a full comedy or Vasu tried to make it a horror triller. Anyway I had a good laugh and did not laugh this much even for kanchana movies. Good job P. Vasu and team for creating an exciting comedy movie , love the part when kangana was fighting with the cartoon dogs and the rara song switch between kangana and lakshmi was too funny literally was gasping for air laughing.

A worthy sequel to a cult classic, Kangana is on fire
coolsonu-0122928 September 2023
Kangana is queen of versatility. No actor has portrayed the range of characters which has has. I am glad she is back to our Tamizh cinema to enthral us with her remarkable craft.

This actor who not just uses her face but also her body language, walking style, laughs, weeping and voice differently in every role so effortlessly. Just in awe of her.

Vadivelu tickles ur bone so much in the 1st half. Raghav is massy and is great at his job. Laxmi is outstanding and matches the expectations of having to match with a great performer like Kangana. Mahima, Surbhi, Radhika r well casted.

Music is inarguably the best score produced by indian cinema this year by the maestro Kreem.

Total paisa vasool and a film which deserves to be as successful as its prequel. Chandramukhi 3 should be made soon, please dont wait for 17 years again AND PLEASE CAST KANGANA ! She is breathtaking.

Waste
anban85-957-6624866 November 2023
Poor acting Worst screenplay Very artificial and looks terrible. ( Don't read the below content, i wrote it to fill the minimum characters) don't waste reading the review abt this film anywhere. Simply delete it from your watchlist.

With this biggest cast , its a such a waste of piece.

I can go on , don't want to waste time like they did.

The bgm also feels stupid. This is how you spoil a movie name with a sequel.

One more thing the gravity doesn't work in this movie, so don't worry abt people flying or floating. Pls don't make such films dear director. And Lawrence sir, pls proceed your kanchana series instead of this atleast the CGI is far good compared to this movie.

Waste of money and time. Think about the people worked in this project, it's really sad for them.

Two and a half hour of mega-masala
ashwinrajan-175-99259927 October 2023
Absolutely not recommended. There is no story, no proper background, there was just special effects and exaggerated acting. Please do not, I repeat do not waste your time and energy towards this muck. The story starts off with a family experiencing problems who inturn is suggested to perform rituals at their deity's temple by a guru. They rent a mansion to perform the rituals and experience strange events during their stay. One of the family members begins acting like a maniac and tries to put the lives of the others in danger. At that time another family member too begins to act in a weird manner to end a historical feud. The film ends with a possible hint to a sequel which no one would want. 1/10.

Mediocre
r-mhievhen29 September 2023
Nothing fancier , same story line , similar plot to the first installment , vfx are tacky , logical loopholes are aplenty , no character arc . Kangana was exceptional yet not memorable wished she had longer screen presence . Vadivelu has lost his touch but still tried to amuse but in few instances the jokes were unnecessary and more like trying to blend in . Just a mediocre family entertainment movie , kids will enjoy it not as much as adults would. A lot of the elements are carried out and trying to imitate the first part which failed but Lawrence tried doing justice to superstar's blockbuster movie yet not in par.
