An adult drama
mmanville15 March 2021
This episode of continued focus on the dynamics of the Baldwin family, in conjunction with the last episode & of course the final episodes of last season, along with the personal challenges in his Jamestown crewmates' lives which quietly fester out of public sight. This series does not play to superficial hero-worship; each are real human beings, with unique flaws. Like previous episodes, the most powerful moments were its most subtle, most quiet -- and yes, they happened on Earth, not in space. The ripples of the "alternate history" triggered by the one change in Season 1 Episode 1 also continue, often in the background (television newscasts, asides in conversations, etc)

I can't say anything more without giving a spoiler, ruining it for others. But what I can say (and want to, strongly) is if all you are looking for is "More rockets, more Soviets, more explosions and more SPACE !" (as the only other review of this episode demands), you have of *ton* of other CGI-fest options out there to pick from. If this stuff bores you because there aren't enough explosions, that's ok -- just move on? You have about 95% of the entertainment output produced today to get your fill of that kind of thing from. The other review reminds me of the Battlestar Galactica fans that also turned on Ronald Moore for the non-space battle directions that series also went.

For all women and mankind

The writers should check their space flight history and manuals for what a space ahuttle can or cannot do.

If want to make a series that has technical content right you need to make some sense and so not falsfy truth In this series thwy use it for making trips to the moonand back. I know better and almost everyone does.

As of now, or in 1983 it's not possible to travel to the Moon using a space shuttle. Space shuttles like the ones used by NASA were primarily designed for low Earth orbit missions, such as servicing the International Space Station. Traveling to the Moon would require a different type of spacecraft, such as the Apollo spacecraft used during the Apollo missions or more modern spacecraft like the Orion capsule.

Even the landing or the subsequent takeoff would have been impossible.

Thank you for reading.

Moon action.....

Joel Kinnaman's Ed Baldwin has always been one of the series' main protagonists, but For All Mankind Season 2 Episode 4, "Pathfinder," proves why he's often one of its most difficult to root for. True, we've seen him suffer - losing his son Shane last season was a blow not many men would have been able to recover from, and being stuck on the moon when it happened obviously made everything worse. His friendship with Gordo has always been rather charming, and their ability to be emotional with one another is a rare thing in male characters fro this time period. But Ed is also a character who's always had something of a difficult, even selfish streak - whether it was his internalized misogyny toward women joining the space program, his willingness to let Danielle cover-up for his breakdown, his need to constantly "handle" Gordo's mistakes for him. And as the head of the astronaut office, Ed seems generally competent, but his obvious nepotism is - or at least should be -- worrisome to everyone. He puts Gordo on a mission to the moon when it's clear that he's very far from ready for active duty. (He's a drunk, wildly out of shape, and has been on the ground for a decad And he seems to be totally okay with covering up the fact that his friend's having panic attacks that could endanger other astronauts, too. There's a certain air about this that isn't just selfish - it feels like a strange payback for the fact that Apollo 10 didn't quite make it to the moon first. So, I guess if Ed couldn't be first on the moon, he'll... make history another way? It's not exactly sure how we're meant to read Ed's choices here, but they hardly seem noble, or in the best interests of the program. But, for what it's worth, Ed's conversation with Danielle about race in the space program is something that For All Mankind has needed for a long time. In truth, it needs more of it - if only because it is very obvious that even nearly 15 years since a Black woman went into space, there still just aren't many Black people in the program, and certainly not leading missions. Is that Ed's fault? Not entirely, but he does bear some responsibility. After all, he was all too willing to let Dani cover for him in Jamestown, and has certainly reaped the benefits of that mission in the years since, while she still appears to be stuck in the same place.

Here for Moon action not race relations

The title is pretty self explanatory. The initial season was packed with tense action and stressful moments. Unfortunately this season falls short to fulfill that promise. I expected a lot more when I saw the Sea Dragon rocket launch in the last few minutes of the last season. Please, stop focusing on the earthly interpersonal relationships of crew members. More rockets, more Soviets, more explosions and more SPACE !

"Gravity's a 'female dog'!"
bosporan22 May 2022
Everyone wants back in space and there is a decision to make between space conflict and entente cordiale. A static episode with rather too much preachy pulpit polemic.

Note: The use of the correct noun for 'female dog' was declined!

More space and less drama, please.

Did all the show writers get drunk all of a sudden? This show was awesome in season 1. Now it's more or less a melodrama-salsa, with people running around, acting irrationally all the time. And they have turned down the pacing to 50% for some reason. Sigh.

Gonna keep watching, but so far this season has been a grand disappointment.
