The Chain of Screaming (#3.15)

Warning: Spoilers
So Marshall gets yelled at at work and starts crying. Everyone tries to teach him how to deal with this situation.

I liked what they were saying they would do. Very fitting to all the characters. Robin with her gun made me laugh a lot. And the story Barney told about the guy from his work trying to pee on the conference table was also great.

I am glad Marshall didn't end up yelling at the waiter. It would really not be fitting to his character at all. And Barney looks less horrible than when he suggested it after he lets Marshall yell at him.

And it seems to be going the good way. Marshall quit by yelling at the nasty boss and Lily is a wonderful wife who cares less about the money than them being happy. Wanted to hug them both at that scene.

Was also great to see Bob Odenkirk as a guest star.

An underrated episode
PabloThePirate7 January 2018
This episode is not amazing because of its plot. That's not to say that its plot is bad, but it's not why I'm reviewing this so positively. It's amazing primarily because of 1 thing: the characters. To be more specific, the writers made Marshall the main character in this episode. In most other HIMYM episodes, Ted is the main character. Don't get me wrong, HIMYM is a great show, but making Ted the main character was a mistake. He's lame and pretentious. He's constantly correcting people, yet he gets stuff wrong (e.g. mispronouncing "chameleon" and falsely stating that "love thy neighbor" is not the Golden Rule). With Marshall in the spotlight, we have a story that doesn't suffer from being centered on a pretentious snob. Marshall is a genuinely nice guy who doesn't constantly correct people. He makes the audience genuinely care about him when they see him try to stand up to his boss. When Ted's in the spotlight, sorry, but I don't really care about his romantic pursuits, because I don't care about him.

A Drop In Quality
slightlymad2217 December 2014
After so many great episodes, it was inevitable that there would be a drop in quality somewhere and this was it.

Plot In A Paragraph: Marshall cries after being shouted at by his boss, so the other four all tell him how he should deal with it. Robin suggests he go in with a gun, Ted Suggests he gives a speech about how he will not tolerate being abused, Lily suggests using the same approach she takes with her kids at school and Barney suggests he just send the abuse further down the chain of screaming (or the circle of screaming, or the pyramid of screaming) and simply scream at someone beneath him.

Whilst this episodes has it's moments, there was not many laugh out loud moments to enjoy for me.
