Paul Girard, a successful designer of trendy eye wear, is at a point in his life where, having achieved success, he is an empty man with no one to share his existence. His friends decide to engage Elisa, a writer, to work on Paul's biography. At first, he is completely turned off by the prospect of having his life made public, but a near fatal accident makes him realize how lonely he really is, when no one comes to see him at the hospital.

Elisa begins her interviews by going to the source: Paul's former wives and lovers. One thing she discovers is no one really hates Paul, but the three women, Agnes, Chloe, and Beatrice have left him because he could not commit to them. Paul, who is reluctant to participate in Elisa's research, realizes she has really captured who he really is. Paul, in turn, cannot help falling for the writer.

This French romantic comedy made for television was shown recently on a cable channel. Directed by Elisabeth Rappeneau with flair, it is a pleasant film to sit through. Corinne Atlas wrote the scenario. Even though it is a predictable situation, we are made to care about the man that has made mistakes all his life and finds a redemption in an unexpected source.

The excellent Wladimir Yordanoff plays Paul. Barbara Schultz is Elisa the biographer of the man that is reluctant to share his life with others. The great Bernadette Lafont appears as Paul's mother. Delphine Rich, Elsa Kikoine and Malou Beauvoir are the women that were involved with Paul in the past.
