Childhood friends Songul and Aydanur are in love with the same guy (Mahmut)without knowing. But Mahmut chooses Songul to marry as she possesses the qualities of a women to be a wife. On the other hand, he continues to have an affair with Aydanur We can say he is the winner). When Songul realises the affair, she once again gets close to Aydanur to refresh their friendship that drives Mahmut crazy of course.
The cinematography in CONSCIENCE is quite good. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for screenplay and acting. There are gaps and irrelevances in between characters and time periods. For instance, when Mahmut kills Songul while she was dancing in a small village wedding ceremony with Aydanur in a very courageous way. Then we see Aydanur trembling or going mad and we are taken 3 years later. Do we want to know what the hell happened in those years. We do but the director seems not to care. The ending was ridiculous. I mean is that all easy "well, sure it can be but didn't seem convincing".
Acting was just okay. Not award worthy though. Nurgul Yesilcay wins the best actress in Golden Orange Film Festival with playing Aydanur. Well, she did alright but not enough to beat Hatice Aslan in Three Monkeys for example. She was simply outstanding. Well, Tulin Ozen in Songul character took my interest more since I thought she did well and owed this to the dramatic death of the character. Mahmut character was played by Murat Han and he did not put any effort in to his role. Well, thats my opinion.
All in all, if I had to go back in time and decide to choose a film to watch. I would most certainly have bought my ticket for another movie. ** out of *****
