Great for tour guidance, but bad in attitude.
calvin_hyper7 July 2020
I'm a big fan of Jay Chou since 2009, and I'm so excited for this show of him travelling around the world. The good thing about this show is it's great for tour guidance. When you're planning to visit a country where Jay covered in his show, it's actually useful for your planning. Even though he didn't cover most of the tourist attraction in the country, I think it's enough and the show is enjoyable with families. I often laughed at the jokes and their actions. It's also a unique show because it's combining magic and travelling. I really love the magic tricks in this show, very jaw dropping. The editing is okay for me since it's a reality show and targeted for specific audiences.

The bad thing about this show is Jay's and other of his friend's, sometime's even the guest star's attitudes is not really nice. The amount of Jay bullying his friends and hitting his friends sometimes makes me cringe. Sure it's his friends and they're just joking, I just think it's exaggerated and not funny. Also, some of the episodes are really really boring like the one they went to Shenzhen. I was hoping they could cover more attractions, but they didn't. They only went to 2 places and that sucks.

I had to make an IMDb account just to write this review because I really want J-Style Trip's crew to read for evaluation or any of you guys that plans to watch this series. It's a good show but maybe in the first eight episodes that are really good. after the eighth episode, it's not really good for me. Sorry for the bad english, it's not my main language. thanks for reading ✌🏼

Lacks depth and creativity

I'm a fan of Jay Chou and JJ lin. Watching the show made me cringe because Jay's sidekicks are really painful to watch(burden in fact). The whole vibe is trying too hard. It even became boring and you just wanna fast forward the whole show. Maybe the writer could give more content rather than boring dialogues.

Bad editing and cheesy special effects

It was so boring that my friend, who is a super big fan of Jay, literally fell asleep watching the show.

Watch the first episode, enjoy the magic trick but the whole editing is so awful. if you are on Netflix right now, you have a better choice.

Something a bit different...
RachelMary26 September 2021
I watched this as I'm learning Chinese and it was recommended as a good show to watch for those learning- and it was. It was quirky and a bit different. I'm not the target audience for this show but it was pretty cool.

There are some episodes that don't 'translate' well and the viewing was too often uncomfortable, for example lads messing about becoming more like bullying. Large segments of some episodes were too indulgent, an ego trip, which weren't very entertaining. That said, it was largely good fun and the fun they had making it came across.

Don't expect too much

I'm a Jay Chou fan for 10 years but just can't enjoy this show as much as I love Jay. There's no plot at all, the quality of the video is disappointing and Jay's sidekicks are not very enjoyable. Who would go to Paris to play basketball and pool? There are so many interesting and educational activities they could have done.

Japanese commercials are better than this

I am not a fan of Jay; just want to enjoy a good show. This series is neither not funny nor focused. If you are a fan of him probably you will enjoy their meaningless chatting; after all they are friends. But if you want to SEE a nice show, this is a failure.

Boring, Too long, Too much Jay and the worst editing ever!
waitnani14 August 2020
I am not an Asian, nor a Jay fan. I just enjoy Asian shows very much usually. This was a shocker. I feel like I wasted three hours of my life, trying to give this series a fair chance. Mr Jay is just too overbearing and talks too much nonsense. Why he even has "team mates", I will never know. The editor should be fired, worst video footage I have ever seen. The magic tricks are so-so. Next time just make a series without anyone but Jay. I will def NOT recommend this.

Refreshingly different
ljpq24 April 2020
All a matter of attitude. If you have a negative attitude then you can find much disappointment. However if you want an insight into the "real" people then there is plenty to enjoy. It is not pre-scripted and therefore can be disjointed ~ but so is real life. As reported by Jay it is intended to be a "fun" thing. The tourism aspects are not "staged" presentations orchestrated by Tourism publicity people they are just as Jay sees them. Certainly not for everyone but interestingly different if you are not a grouch.

They should learn a thing or two from Gordon-Gino and Fred.
jaylong-638009 April 2021
The level of awkwardness and the amount of corny jokes are terribly high in this show. The worst thing about this is the bad editing. This crew should watch Gordon Gino and Fred, thats how you make a travelling show with celebrities - natural, charismatic, passionate, and they don't need to try hard to be funny.

Watch that. And learn a thing or two.

3/10 ( 1 for the view, 1 for Jay, 1 for the hope of some changes about this show in the future )

You can see the most authentic Jay Chou on this show
e-9343124 March 2020
Jay Chou's latest variety show is similar to his earlier films. All are to satisfy Jay Chou's own wishes and try something different. So Jay Chou is very real in this show, just like he showed to the audience on social platforms. Praiseworthy

Fun, frivolous and relaxed
sstt1-123 May 2020
A bunch of friends knock about various world cities, doing magic tricks for passers-by and generally having a good time. Goofy fun that doesn't take itself too seriously, with some genuinely crowd-pleasing yet simple magic tricks. So much fun watching the friends make fun of each other, and also some beautiful cinematography. Of course it comes with a Jay Chou soundtrack - which is perfect. Two thumbs up from me; long make it continue.

Enjoyable for the whole family, with very cool magic tricks and a focus music
jeanisys5 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
We rarely listen to pop music and are not too familiar with Jay Chou. However when browsing through Netflix we gave this show a try, seeing that it's a travel show and we were sheltered-in-place, hoping it would be less dry than other travel shows.

We were pleasantly surprised by how amusing the show is, the good relationships between the cast (many reality shows around the world like to focus on nastiness/pettiness). You see the cast has a relaxed camaraderie; they tease each other but also take care of each other. It's very comforting to watch a group of people introduce destinations in a light that normal tourists (even experienced Rick Steve style travelers like ourselves) never thought of seeing. (I've been to Paris many times, but now I would really love to try to go shoot some hoops there.)

One of the major highlights of this show are their magic tricks. Some of those tricks are just so impressive and put you in awe. You can expect at least 3+ tricks per episode. I was very impressed with how popstar Jay Chou is so good as a magician too.

The other highlight of the show, the Shenzhen I episode, was the focus on music. "Music is limitless" says Jay Chou. He advises those piano students and discusses with Lang Lang, that classical pianists/musicians should also branch into pop and other genres. In the end, it makes you a better artist. My kids have gone to our piano and started experimenting more with the piano after watching this episode (and they like to re-watch it, esp the duet between Jay Chou + Lang Lang and the duet between Jay Chou + the camerman during a magic performance).

We've started to listen to Jay Chou music now and can actually hear chinese classical chord influence in his pop music. Also, it was really impressive for myself and my kids to hear Jay Chou express his gratitude for his mom pushing him when he was young, while other kids played. It really goes to show you (and my kids) that you can only get so far without hard work/true effort.

This is one of the few reality TV shows that is funny, relaxing, expresses a very kind/positive side, expresses loyalty to those who forged the path with you, family appropriate and quite inspiring to all ages.

I'm surprised by the amount of bad ratings
jodie-4899619 September 2021
I honestly never write reviews for shows or movies, but I was curious about what other people thought after finishing the current episodes of the show. Looking through the top reviews, I was rather disappointed by the amount of judgements on the editing and the content itself. For some context, my entire family loves Jay Chou's music, and I grew up listening to it. After seeing the show when scrolling through Netflix, we grew curious about what it would be about. At first we thought the first episode was rather boring, but we revisited it and watched the full episodes. The first two were a little boring, but I soon found myself wanting more each time we finished each one. The editing could be a little over the top sometimes, but most of the time I found it rather funny and enjoyable. Like the other reviews said, they often include fun magic tricks. Some are rather small scale, while others are much bigger.

However, as a general description for the show, the focus is more on the fun dynamic between Jay Chou, his friends, and the guest stars then the great tourist attractions in each area. If what you're looking for is a showcase on each country and place, then this wouldn't be the best show for it. While they do visit a few tourist attractions there's much less of it then just small food restaurants and fun between friends.

Very informative of the arts
PalmBeachG8 March 2024
Why all the lower ratings? This is one of the better travel shows that feature much about the different types of artistry, music, singing, composing, art, wine making, magic and so much more. I have learned so much from this show and Jay Chou. Also enjoyed the scenery of each place. It's not the mindless fluff you see in other travel shows where buddies go along. It also is not a show you can binge watch due to the length of each episode so the entire series can be lengthy for some. It also mixes in a little magic which lightens up the mood between friends and is also another form of entertainment that has taken years to master.

To give one example, my favorite is when they visited in France the Chateau Lafite Rothschild and got to meet the current and 6th owner of the Rothschild family. She gives a tour of the wonderful Chateau and cellars where the oldest wines are stored and explains everything. They also have a tasting and tour of the vines. Loved this close-up tour by the owner and so informative. Worth giving this travel series a chance.

I have been a fan of Jay Chou since . . . 10? JJ Lin is another idol of mine. It is great to see the authentic performance from him with his friends while exploring the world vicariously through him. Haters are always gonna hate.

Really funny
xkelly1813 September 2022
I'm curious why it has such poor reviews...

I genuinely laughed out loud.

My theory is that the people who don't get the jokes don't speak Chinese. The jokes were often play on words, which don't make sense at all if you don't speak Chinese. Plus, humor in general requires a certain cultural understanding.

Some people are saying that the bullying between cast members is not cool-but it's not genuine bullying it's a running gag. It's mutually understood amongst the cast. It's kind of like a king and his jesters. You'll notice the "jester" cast members intentionally playing into their roles and setting themselves up for a punchline.

Anyway it's really funny and entertaining. The cast has good rapport and they did interesting things and performed impressive magic tricks. I hope there will be a second season!
