Jeremy Renner has been making a name in the industry since the beginning of his career. But it wasn’t until he made his MCU debut with Thor (2011) as Hawkeye, that the actor became a household name. His character of the bow-and-arrow-wielding superhero became a fan-favorite because of his witty quips and sarcastic remarks, which is very in-tune with Renner’s own personality.
Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye
He last helmed the superhero costume in the 2021 Disney+ series, Hawkeye, where Hailee Steinfeld made her debut as Kate Bishop, his protege from the comics. Unfortunately, last year on Jan 1st, the actor suffered a near-fatal accident after his encounter with a 14,300-pound snowcat. Since then it has been a long year journey of recovery, which the actor has been through with grace. And now he is ready to get back to action.

Actor Jeremy Renner was once appointed as the new lead for Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne films. But before Renner was in the picture, Joel Edgerton was seriously considered as Damon’s successor.

Bourne Legacy filmmaker Tony Gilroy considered Renner to be more than capable of leading Damon’s highly acclaimed spy franchise. Gilroy had a hand in writing all three of Damon’s Bourne movies, and would end up in the director’s chair for Legacy. After meeting Renner, Gilroy knew immediately that the Marvel star was right for the role. Especially since Gilroy and the team weren’t just looking for a good actor for Legacy.
“We knew how demanding the part was going to be and how high the bar was that Matt had set for us,” Gilroy once told The Telegraph.

One year after unveiling the ambitious project at Hong Kong’s Filmart project market, Philippine broadcaster-turned-content-producer Abs-cbn has started production on the crime thriller series The Bagman. The show began shooting in Manila on Feb. 25, according to the producers, and the project will be shopped to regional buyers at this year’s Filmart, which begins Monday.
The Bagman is a high-end TV spinoff of Abs-cbn’s popular streaming series Bagman, which ran for two seasons beginning in 2019 and was picked up by Netflix. Filipino actor Arjo Atayde (The General’s Daughter) is reprising his lead role as Benjo Malaya from the original show. John Arcilla (On the Job 2: The Missing 8, The Bourne Legacy) and Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo (Mindanao) also star.
The spinoff is said to have a significantly bigger budget, with ambitions to reach an audience beyond the Philippines. Abs-cbn’s producing partners on the title include Dreamscape Entertainment, Nathan Studios and Rein Entertainment.

Hawkeye star Jeremy Renner is game and ready to reprise his role as Aaron Cross in The Bourne Legacy sequel if it ever gets the green light. The movie was notoriously known for underperforming at the box office, and it also did not help that reviews from fans and critics were less-than-stellar.

Matt Damon is Hollywood’s nice guy yet the actor is absolutely incredible when it comes to action movies. Starring in one of the most popular action franchises of all time, the Bourne movie series, the actor’s portrayal of an action hero is as good as it can get.
Matt Damon (on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert)
A tale of resilience and fragility, Damon’s portrayal of the enigmatic spy, especially in the last movie Jason Bourne, has made him a cinematic legend. Yet the movie turned out to be his personal hell, even more so since the last Bourne entry starring Marvel star Jeremy Renner nearly killed the entire $1.6 billion franchise, making it all the more difficult for the then 45-year ord actor.

The name’s Bourne, Jason Bourne, and his most famous portrayer, Matt Damon is extremely “anxious” about the sixth installment of the franchise — and he might not even be in it!
While Matt Damon doesn’t have much to offer in terms of what the next Bourne script may look like, he did note that its planned director Edward Berger “had an idea.” He added, “I would love to work with him! So he’s working on it, so I’m looking, I’m as anxious as you are to see if this thing – I hope it’s great, and that we can do it.” It should be noted that Matt Damon is not formally attached to return as Jason Bourne for any further entries in the action franchise, although his level of excitement does show he would be down to play the character for a fourth time. Yes, it is true. Edward Berger, the director of All Quiet on the Western Front & Jack, is in talks to direct a new flick about super spy Jason Bourne. The upcoming film would be the latest entry in the successful Bourne franchise, which has brought in over $1.6 billion at the box office through five films (four of which starred Matt Damon). Jeremy Renner played Aaron Cross in the fourth Bourne film, which brought in $276 million despite receiving mixed reviews.
Many fans were therefore left to speculate as to whether the Mystic Pizza star would return to Universal Pictures’ acclaimed action franchise. During his recent visit to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Damon, 53, declined to confirm his presence in the next Bourne flick when the host brought up the topic. However, the actor did sense that “someone is going to need to take it over” eventually.

Praising All Quiet On The Western Front director Edward Berger, Matt Damon has teased a possible return as Jason Bourne. “I hope it’s great and that we can do it.”
In November, news emerged that a sixth Bourne film was in development, and that Edward Berger, who broke through with his Oscar-winning war film All Quiet On The Western Front, would direct.
At the time, it wasn’t clear whether or not Matt Damon would return to the title role, though the thinking was that he’d make a decision based on whether there was a story or script he’d happy to participate in.
Speaking on an edition of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert (as spotted by World Of Reel), however, Damon appeared to be the bearer of good news. Praising Berger’s skill as a filmmaker, he said that the director had “an idea” for another Bourne film.

Matt Damon was in a chatty mood during Tuesday’s appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, updating that a sixth Jason Bourne film is in the works.
Damon said he didn’t have any details to share about a Bourne 6. However, he mentioned that All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger “had an idea” for the Bourne film and is currently working on it.
The Jason Bourne franchise has had five films. Of those, only The Bourne Legacy has strayed from the Jason Bourne-focused narratives. Its successor, Jason Bourne, brought Damon back.

When news broke last November that Universal Pictures was developing a sixth Bourne movie with “All Quiet on the Western Front” director Edward Berger, fans were left wondering if Matt Damon would be returning to his iconic action franchise. The Bourne series, which includes four films headlined by Damon and one by Jeremy Renner, has earned $1.6 billion worldwide. Damon’s last outing was 2016’s “Jason Bourne.”
Damon made a recent appearance on “The Late Show” and stopped short of confirming he’ll star in the new Bourne movie when the topic was brought up by host Stephen Colbert. However, the actor showered incoming Bourne director Edward Berger with praise and sounded hopeful about appearing in the film. Berger had a career breakthrough in 2022 with his Netflix adaptation of “All Quiet on the Western Front,” which earned nine Oscar nominations, including best picture, and won for international feature and three more prizes.

Everyone loves a good what-if, right? Let’s go back down memory lane for a second. Once upon a time, Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass abandoned the ‘Jason Bourne,’ franchise after being unable to nail a 4th ‘Jason Bourne’ script (they tried). In the gap, original ‘Bourne’ writer Tony Gilroy was asked to pitch a take, and that eventually became “The Bourne Legacy” (2012), which he directed starring Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross, another Treadstone-like agent out there in the greater ‘Jason Bourne’ universe.

Hollywood loves a franchise. Soon, our nostalgia obsessed monoculture will be treated to a "Harry Potter" reboot series and a definitely necessary "Twilight" revival. Now, we've learned that a new Jason Bourne movie is on the way from "All Quiet on the Western Front" director Edward Berger. As it stands, Berger is the only one attached to the project and it's still very early days. But the news of a potential new Bourne movie should be exciting for fans of the franchise and action movies in general. Either that, or they'll be dismayed that Universal is churning out yet another installment after 2016's disappointing "Jason Bourne" and 2012's exquisitely forgettable "The Bourne Legacy."
The Bourne movies are a great example of a studio squeezing every bit of life out of a franchise it possibly can. After "The Bourne Identity" successfully adapted Robert Ludlum's novels to the big screen, we...

All Quiet On The Western Front’s Edward Berger is in talks to direct Bourne 6, representing something of a coup for the project.
Whilst things are supposedly very much in the developmental stages, it looks like Universal is keen to get the wheels turning once again on another film in the Bourne franchise. According to Deadline, the studio is eager to revive one of its biggest action franchises and is pursuing Edward Berger to develop and direct the film.
Berger helmed All Quiet on the Western Front, the German film that took home gold at this year’s Oscars for Best International Picture. The resounding critical success of his World War I drama likely means that Berger has been presented with plenty of options, though he hasn’t yet committed to anything as far as we know.

As the CIA characters overseeing the office monitors might say, “My god, it’s Jason Bourne!” TheWrap has learned that Universal has begun early development for what would be a sixth movie in the so-called Jason Bourne universe. Edward Berger, whose Netflix-distributed re-adaptation of “All Quiet on the Western Front” received nine Oscar nominations and won four, is in talks to possibly helm the next chapter.
There is no screenplay, nor has Matt Damon officially been approached, but the actor who starred in four of the five previous installments certainly has first right of refusal. Damon starred in “The Bourne Identity” in 2002, launching the ongoing spy franchise and reprising in three sequels. Jeremy Renner took over in “The Bourne Legacy,” a spin-off chapter released in 2012.

Jason Bourne may be born again. Universal is developing a new take on the action franchise, with All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger leading the charge, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The new Bourne project is in the early stages of development. Matt Damon, who became an action star with the role in the early 2000s, could potentially become involved, but at this stage there is no script, and thus no star commitments. Deadline first reported the news.
Damon played Bourne in a trilogy of films from 2002-07, and then reprised the role 2016’s Jason Bourne. The features, based on the novels of late author Robert Ludlum, centered on a government operative who loses his memory and is hunted by his own country. Jeremy Renner also starred in a spinoff, 2012’s The Bourne Legacy.

Universal is in early development on a new movie about super spy Jason Bourne, with “All Quiet on the Western Front” filmmaker Edward Berger in talks to direct.
The new movie would be the latest installment in the blockbuster franchise, which has tallied five films (four of which starred Matt Damon) and more than $1.6 billion at the box office.
Sources familiar with the project have stressed that it’s still in early development, so any grand return to the world of Jason Borne may be far into the future. There’s currently no script in the works, nor is there a writer attached to the prospective film, so it’s unclear if the plan is to bring back original cast members or entirely reboot the property. So, it’s too soon to say if cast members like Damon — who first played the role of the amnesiac assassin in 2002’s “The Bourne Identity...

What evil government plot did Jason Bourne suddenly remember this time? Deadline reports that Universal Pictures is in early development of a new Jason Bourne movie, with All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger in negotiations to helm the project.
As development on the new Jason Bourne movie is still in its infancy, there’s no script at this time and no other talent attached beyond Edward Berger. As for Matt Damon, who starred as Bourne in four of the five movies, he will be approached once a script is in place, but there’s no guarantee he would consider returning to the action franchise.
The last movie in the series, Jason Bourne, was a box-office success upon its release in 2016, grossing $412 million worldwide, but it received lackluster reviews from audiences and critics. Matt Damon acknowledged the collective ‘meh’ from audiences, but wasn’t about to rule out another sequel.

If you want to know what drove the mood of '00s action cinema, you need to look to one franchise: the Bourne movies. For a stretch of time there, Matt Damon's amnesiac super-spy took over the genre, and the franchise's low-fi, barrel-fisted, chaos-first and sense-later approach to storytelling forced a radical reinvention of how Hollywood produced movies like this. Even James Bond was forced to adapt. Over 20 years after the first film hit theaters, we've absorbed what this series was throwing down so thoroughly, so completely, that what was fresh and thrilling back then sometimes feels a bit standard now. Jason Bourne -- and those who wrote and directed his films -- raised the bar so effectively that everyone was forced to play catch-up.
Although the series has seemingly come to an end, it remains a subject of fascination among action aficionados. The baby-faced Damon, still fresh on the scene,...

With Gareth Edwards on the promotional circuit for his new sci-fi epic The Creator, folks have been asking him repeatedly about the reported behind-the-scenes drama on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. While he previously said he has no regrets concerning his time with Lucasfilm, in a new interview, he denies that he was ever not working on the film. The popular myth is that Edwards was replaced by Tony Gilroy, the movie’s co-writer as director (with Gilroy having already directed Michael Clayton and The Bourne Legacy). He insists that’s not the case. Speaking with Kcrw’s The Business (excepted by THR), he says all the gossip surrounding the film is inaccurate. “Tony came in, and he did a lot of great work, for sure. No doubt about it. But we all worked together until the last minute of that movie.”

Matt Damon helped turn his Bourne series into one of the most successful spy thrillers in cinema history. Years after the trilogy ended, there was one film that reminded him of his Bourne days.
Matt Damon once shared this movie reminded him of being on a ‘Bourne’ film set Matt Damon | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Damon found a link between his Bourne films and his 2015 feature The Martian. The two projects couldn’t have been anymore different, with the latter being a sci-fi feature about a stranded astronaut. But according to Damon, performing in The Martian was very reminiscent of his time on Bourne. They both had sequences where Damon had to perform all by himself.
“The closest thing would probably be the Bourne movies. I end up on my own, usually, in those, at least in the second two. But that was the appeal of this. It was so different...

Netflix always seems to know when it has a potential hit. Although the action-comedy sequel “Murder Mystery 2,” starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, was probably a no-brainer, the continuing success of the spy thriller series “The Night Agent” certainly must be a nice surprise. Read on for the Netflix Top 10 (Week of April 3) viewing chart analysis.
Last week, Season 1 of “The Night Agent” spent its third weekend as the #1 English language series on the streamer with 130.5 million global hours viewed, which was enough to put it into Netflix’s all-time most popular English shows in ninth place with 515.6 million total hours viewed worldwide. The show is in the top 10 in 92 countries, many of which it remains in the #1 spot. Wisely, Netflix has already greenlit a second season.

“65” (Sony) and “Shazam: Fury of the Gods” (Warner Bros. Discovery), both $19.99, were the sole new entries on VOD charts on an otherwise static week. However, three’s a trend: The new titles join last week’s “Creed III” in arriving on PVOD in 28 days or fewer after their theatrical releases.
As home-release strategies evolve, it’s clear that distributors love that lucrative PVOD revenue. At the same time, these charts reinforce the idea that playing in theaters elevates these titles.
“65” was a modest theatrical performer ($31 million in 31 days), but with its sci-fi genre and Adam Driver as the lead it can draw early home viewers. And since Sony doesn’t own a streamer, it has more incentive to maximize VOD.
“Shazam” sequel after 21 days is atypical for Wbd, especially for a DC title. After Wbd ended its disruptive same-day theatrical/HBO Max strategy, the studio said any theatrical...

The Night Agent bumped Ginny & Georgia Season 2, which had 504M hours viewed in its first 28 days, off the Most Popular list. It replaced Inventing Anna, which now sits in 10th place. The series still has about a week left to continue climbing up the list, as Netflix measures its most popular series only based on wasthe first 28 days of viewership.
At this rate, the series starring Gabriel Basso is tracking to potentially land in Netflix’s all-time Top 5 series by the time its measurement window is over.

The scene where 2012’s The Bourne Legacy first comes truly alive features neither parkour or car chases; it also lacks fisticuffs or a single gunshot; heck, it doesn’t even have Matt Damon. To be sure, the fourth (and generally ignored) film in the Jason Bourne franchise has its fair share of death-defying stunts and white-knuckle action. However, the movie really clicks to life when a coterie of bureaucrats gather inside a windowless room, sharing hushed whispers.
The scene is dominated by who was intended to be the series’ new big heavy, Col. Eric Bryer (Edward Norton), who is revealed to be the Director of the National Research Assay Group. This is essentially a fictional version of Darpa, the research and development agency that operates within the the U.S. Department of Defense and is responsible for developing emerging technologies for military use. In the world of Jason Bourne, that means the infamous “Operation Treadstone,...

The Night Agent is quickly making its way toward becoming one of Netflix‘s most popular English-language series of all time.
In its second week on the service, the action thriller amassed another 216.4 million hours viewed from March 27-April 2, easily reigning over the Top 10 for the week. Not only did it increase viewership significantly in its second week, it also has positioned itself to likely be crowned one of Netflix’s all-time most-watched TV series.
Since its release, The Night Agent has tallied 385M viewing hours, making it about 120M away from hitting the all-time Top 10 TV list. Currently the 10th spot is taken by Ginny & Georgia Season 2 with just over half a billion viewing hours.
Last week, the series had the third-best premiere week of viewing across Season 1 TV for any Netflix Original when it clocked more than 160M viewing hours in its first few days on Netflix, only behind Wednesday and Dahmer.

Two major hits debuted for home viewing this week, with very different gaps between their theatrical releases and PVOD availability. “Avatar: The Way of Water” (Disney), which appeared after 100 days and $680 million in domestic gross, is currently #1 everywhere. “Creed III” (MGM) arrived after only 28 days to place #2, also on all charts. “The Way of Water” is available to buy for $19.99, while “Creed III” can only be rented for 48 hours.
Also debuting is “Champions”, consistent with the company’s usual post-third weekend release. It made two lists, as high as #4 at Vudu. Vudu also has the latest DC Comics home video original “Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham” (Warner Bros. Discovery) at #9 for $14.99.
Two films that made all three lists are now available at $5.99 with “A Man Called Otto” (Sony) and “Puss in Boots: The Last Exit” (Universal). “Cocaine Bear” (Universal), still at $19.99, also made all three and charted as high as #3 at Vudu.
