Trivikram's new Dimension -- Well Experimented and With good Result
NealRuney26 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This is actually a good movie with brilliant performances from all the actors.Pawan does a good job for his role as Sahu and Prakash Raj has done a good job as well though not as great as his previous performances in Ananthapuram,Khadgam.

The plot is an interesting one and so is the screenplay but it gets difficult for the audience to follow it.The music is very good but when it comes to the picturisation of them they were, to say, a bit disappointing.

Trivikram has come forward with a new concept and his "punch" dialogs are as always stands as a highlight to this movie.

The roles of Sunil and Dharmavarapu Subrahmaniam are short but interesting and humorous.

Ileana leaves aside her "sensuous" image and performs an innocent girl character and she delivered a fairly good performance.Parvati has also done good performance but her character is too short to speak. The roles of Tanikella Bharani and Mukesh Rushi are well defined and the conversations between them creates a hype with the dialogs from Trivikam.

Finally, I give this a 7/10 because it is not a simple Telugu film and it does need an effort from the audience to understand it.

pretty funny here and there
slifer999910 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
After 7 long years, Pawan Kalyan is finally back with a complete entertainer, in the form of JALSA. Here are the pluses and minuses of the film:

MINUSES- Sanjay turning into a Naxalite and then drinking and going to bars does become a bit illogical. Also, there aren't as much punch dialogues in this film as there were in Trivikram's previous films. Climax was not that good and so much unnecessary bloody, gory scenes...

PLUSES- COMEDY!!! Bramhanandam's episode as "Pranav", comedy between Pawan Kalyan and Prakash Raj, Sunil always calling Dharmavarapu at the wrong time, and Sivaji's intro were pretty hilarious.....Songs were picturised pretty cool; my favorites being You & I, Jennifer Lopez, and My Heart is Beating...Fights are not those typical ones when bad guys are flown away by a kick....Fights looked pretty natural....

If you are looking toward a complete entertainer, this film is definitely recommended!

I can't stop rewatching this movie!! 7/10
vasudevaa10 April 2021
Coming to performances: I can't stop becoming a pspk fan from watching this. Pawan Kalyan is absolutely amazing at his role. His comedy timing and his crazy action during emotional sequences is unbelievable. Trivikram's character design for pspk acting is just goosebumps. Ileana did extremely well too. She did get dominated by pspk but she did justice to her character.

Until the end of first half: The movie flows well with a high dose of comedy that you will definitely love. The movie also features a love story that is kind of funny. In the middle there are some scenes of the villain. The movie doesn't really have until here story except the villain

2nd half of the film: The second half starts with an emotional scene. This scene is carried by one and only pawan kalyan. His action is so good you might forget you are watching a movie. It then goes into pawan's flashback which has nothing todo with the story. The funny thing is you won't even notice it has nothing to do with the story because of the way trivikram blends it in with the story. After the flashback there are comedy scenes with brahmanandam and pawan which are hilarious. "apara baabu. Navvutho champetattunaavu." You will definitely be surprised by the amount of comedy even after reading this review.

There is also hero villian dialogues at the end such as "within short time nuvvu bhayapadathavu nenu pedatha" or "yuddham lo gelavatam ante satruvuni champadam kaadu, satruvuni odinchadam." These are absoluete goosebump moments

The only thing bad with the movie is that the story is a routine romantic comedy story.

Overall it's a comedy entertainer that you can watch a 100 times and I can guarantee you, you won't be bored.

A very entertaining picture from trivikram and pavan kalyan..artists performance are out of the ordinary and pavan kalyan as sanjay sahu was excellent..the music is top notch but could have been better as videos.. a few unnecessary scenes..Comedy scenes are just awesome and bramhanandham's performance as pranav was totally out of the ordinary.. back grounds score just rock!! and the dialogues are as usual at their best like in all trivikram movies...technically the movie can be very highly ranked...all together the movie is full of fun and entertainment..a total worth for u're money..i have watched the movie 9 times is the theatre and am still not bored of it...

Go to the movie without expectations......and have a feast
karthik-8504 April 2008
JALSA.........after a long long time Pawan's fans are celebrating the moments.

Though the movie did not have a well framed story and it revolves on a small point, the way Trivikram maintained the pace towards the end of the movie, was excellent.Almost each and every dialog in the movie was well framed and there is a Trivikram's mark in every frame. Already music was a big hit and Devi did a wonderful background scores and there in a fresh feel of the music by him and the way the songs are screened adds beauty to the music

Even though the movie has some traces of "ATHADU" in looks point of view, the Photography by Rasool ellor was awesome. There is nothing like a comedy track in the film , as the underline theme of the movie is itself comedy.Brahmanandam, Dharmavarapu and Mukesh rishi did fantastic jobs in there roles. Songs are very badly timed and Pawan's costumes are minus and selection of heroines is not good and makeup artists did a poor job.

Anyway, Pawan and Trivikram bagged a success both commercially and technically and the movie is worth watching

Pawan Kalyan rocks
vjnambu2 January 2020
This was my first Pawan Kalyan film I watched. I don't know Telugu so I went to watch it with subtitles. First half I saw with subtitles but second half I had to see without subtitles and I tell you that I enjoyed the second half more than the first half and that was because of only one person- POWER STAR. If he can entertain a non Telugu person like me then he can entertain anyone. His style, attitude, charisma, dialogue delivery and fun filled performance wins our hearts. Second highlight of the film is DSPs rocking music. And when I saw it again with subtitles I still enjoyed like before. Only drawback I felt was the first half which I didn't enjoy much. I am not fan of trivikram's other works and jalsa is my only favourite film of trivikram.

Laugh out loud..one thumb up
Rajesh_Tweetss2 April 2008
Finally the long wait is over yesterday, Film is entertaining through out, rarely you can find a dull moment in the film, who cares if the film doesn't carry any solid substance if the comedy is making you in to splits, trivikram at his best when it comes to dialogues. Solid allround performance by Pawan kalyan, I m sure he has hit the bull's eye this time. Brahmanandam did a commendable job. Music and cinematography didn't let the viewers down either, they were great and so are the production values. Illeana was alright as a dumb girl, looked cute with reading glasses. Not to forget mahesh's voice over for the film, i thought it was very good gesture from him. People just come out of the theatres with a smile on their face...I strongly recommend this if you need some entertainment...

Caution:Please lower your expectations
Vicky_baba3 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Don't be fooled by the credits.

Just because its directed and written by Trivikram,it isn't as brilliant as his earlier movies.

Just because it has Pawan Kalyan,it doesn't have the same charismatic character traits or the style elements of some earlier movie.

Jalsa is an average movie drowning in the expectations of people who see two big names and automatically add them and expect a mega super duper bumper movie that will run in theaters for longer than sholay and DDLJ combined.

Come on people, haven't we learnt anything from 'Jai Chiranjeeva'? Jalsa is good at times(partlu partlu ga chuste bagane undhi) Pawan Kalyan is hip, funny and cool.He is very preachy and is always discoursing something to someone throughout the movie, but his charisma is undeniable,so if the movie is a flop,it isn't his fault.

Trivikram the dialog writer is brilliant. The dialogs are very witty and the one on one scenes are remarkable. The comedy scenes are hilarious.Suneel rocks!Bramhandham rocks even harder! Trivikram the director is what went wrong and that is where the blame lies. The story is meandering, and on occasion even illogical.Almost every scene including the climax is a joke and nothing is taken seriously.

Why is there so much violence? What is this?Kill Bill 3? Whats with all the rape jokes?Whats his problem with transformers and current poles?Trivikram is a classy director. So why is he so desperate to please the 'mass'?Did he fear that what happened to Manmadhudu would happen to Jalsa? The heroines are OK.They are glamorous. From far.One close up shot of Kamalinee in the second half was terrifying.Rest was OK.

Overall, the movie is pretty bad.The comedy scenes are awesome. So don't watch it in a movie theater.Just wait for the comedy scenes to show up in You tube.Or if you have the patience they should show up in an year in 'Cineranjani'.

Yet another disappointing movie from PavanKalyan
sb8115 May 2008
Good music and songs does not look well on screen. Good concept but audience are often taken off the track...in fact in first half i felt lot of reels were simply wasted. I am sure this is definitely not the way Trivikram would like to tell his story. Trivikram shows flashes of brilliance though in the film with few dialogs. Again those one liners may not be that relevant to the story. Ileana somehow fits well into that innocent girl. Parvati looks more glamorous than Ileana. Pawan does well in the role of Sahu.No doubt he is a brilliant actor. Prakash got a very good role but the screenplay doesn't do justice to his character. Well film could have been promising...disappointing nevertheless

routine with hint of surprise .. but well dosed
sreekirx9 September 2010
jalsa is a perfectly dosed entertainer. it has perfect humor action scenes romance comedy and also mind blowing songs.

casting: power star gave a hilarious performance. he also showed the serious roles stunningly excellent. ileana was good. should have got more of her role. mukesh rishi is perfect as villain. rest all shared the screen space.

screenplay/direction: trivikram came up with a better direction but not up to the mark like athadu. he drove the movie smoothly without doubts in viewers.

songs/background music: the songs are the plus point and background score in serious scenes are giving a thunderous adrenaline punch.

story: routine with a hint of surprise in interval. post interval had a good momentum and suddenly movie collapsed and came down again with the first half. again comedy and action everything routine. climax was better and gave a different approach. director connects the first scene and climax scene at the end of the movie..

catchy dialogs: interval dialog

post interval fight dialog

climax dialog catchy tunes: my heart is beating and jalsa title song..

final analysis : the movie has a dull start and picks up momentum in interval. the second half begins well and runs well for 15 minutes. again the movie loses momentum and rare surprises here and there along with comedy makes it to a confirmed head-head climax. pre climax scenes are good and gives a surprise. overall routine well dosed entertainer.

A movie is more than a few good one liners
seshu_i22 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Pity is a word that I don't like using upon persons. But it's inevitable sometimes to feel pity on all Chiranjeevi fans (including myself) who feel an obligation to watch and appreciate Pawan Kalyan's movies.

The story is about a person who loses his family coz of poverty, joins Naxals and returns to the mainstream life after unable to digest the principles of Naxalism. The time lines are all blurred to make any judgments here. But why does it take him such a long time (he is shown to climb 3 levels in the Naxal hierarchy) to get vexed up with Naxalism? Instead of voluntarily coming out of it, he comes out only when the circumstances make it comfortable to. The whole of the above content is packed in a 15-minute time box which also includes a song. It appears like this entire episode is unnecessarily inserted to accommodate the scene which is blatantly lifted from 'No Man's Land'.

Then he joins a college and starts increasing his PGs and consuming tankers of alcohol. There is no reason shown why such a sudden change from a poverty-stricken, Socialism-craving life to such luxurious consumerism. The only things that act as pointers to his early life are Che's photos hanging in his room.

The scene where our beloved hero reveals that he is an ex-Naxalite could be declared the most incoherent in the movie. Coz there is no need for the revelation there. I couldn't figure out why he vented his anger on his friend, when there was another lying on the ground with his spleen punctured.

It was projected as an out-n-out Love story, but I never found any love between the lead pair. Only domination, whole-hearted submission. The hero, as has become a fad in Telugu Industry recently, is the Indian version of He-Man. However strong the opposing group is, they can't budge his hair unless he wants to. This impresses two pretty girls and both of them say "He is mine" at the same time.

Parvathi Melton is buxom but her character could have been omitted without effect. With all levels of decency known, I can't avoid myself doubting if Ileana crossed puberty. During the most of the first part, her expression on seeing the Hero, is as though she has swallowed a Viagra (I know it won't work for femalesJ).

The villain, who states he has 1000 Cr property, is miser enough to keep a gun with him and in the climax takes out a sword to fight with our He-Man. Even before the fight starts, the henchman of the villain kills himself to avoid seeing his master's defeat. How he could figure out the future only Trivikram knows.

Dialogues are good and there are a few really good scenes but the poor script and the ubiquitous fourth-dimension acting of Pawan nullify them. The extremities of his character make it impossible to connect with the audience. Some scenes spark humor, but it is not sustained.

One particular dialogue by the Hero on Rape shows the pathetic state of our Industry. Though it's intended for comedy, I am afraid how it could be interpreted by different people. There is abundant violence in the movie. Except for Prakash Raj and the jail, there is no evidence of Police Force in the World where the story takes place.

The voice over by Mahesh Babu is refreshing for a change and might start a new trend in Tollywood. Dubbing by Colors Swathi to Ileana is also good. The songs no doubt are nice. Pawan's dance is careless in most of them. A particular song was different with fights included.

Pawan Kalyan is a very interesting person. After starting his career at Mt.Everest, he had slipped quickly to the heights of Deccan Plateau. He seems to be interested in Socialism, adores Che Guevara. But the problem is he can't come out of the cocoon called Luxury. So he lets out his frustration by putting Images of Che Guevara in his films and shouting at other characters about life etc.

The only attempt he did to help the Common Man is to declare the Common Man Protection Force with so much pomp. He stated publicly that he would come out with an agenda in the next 45 days… and has comfortably forgotten about the idea. If it had any agenda… the first one should have been to protect the very Common Man from such films as he has just acted in.
