Randy said, "I've always wanted to name one of these guys... if you can name them, you can catch them." The press used to name serial killers but stopped because naming them gave them more courage and pride and may have caused them to commit more murders.
When the In Focus segment ends there is a credit stating "produced by David Hoberman". David Hoberman is the executive producer of Monk.
When Randy is trying to name the serial killer, he mutters "lipstick killer, lipstick assassin." In the mid-1940s in Chicago, there was a killer called "the lipstick killer."
Brooke Adams, who plays Leigh Harrison, is married to Tony Shalhoub, (Monk), in real life. In Mr. Monk and the Airplane (2002) (#1.13), her character was also named Leigh, but she had no last name.
In the documentary, a framed picture is shown of the Monk family when Adrian and his brother were boys. This is the same picture shown in Mr. Monk and the Three Pies (2004).
