Avenged Sevenfold are keeping up their tradition of covering the Misfits every Halloween. This time around, the metal band has delivered two classics by the horror-punk legends: “Skulls” and the appropriately titled “Halloween.”
Just like A7X’s past covers of Misfits tunes, guitarist Zacky Vengeance takes on lead vocals, offering a smooth baritone that closely emulates Misfits frontman Glenn Danzig’s signature croon.
Two years ago, Vengeance led Avenged Sevenfold on a cover of “Last Caress,” and last year they took on “Astro Zombies.”
Last week, Avenged Sevenfold played a special club show at the Santa Ana Observatory performing songs exclusively from 2003’s Waking the Fallen and 2005’s City of Evil. Frontman M. Shadows got into the Halloween spirit by wearing a skeleton costume during the gig.
Next month, A7X will play select shows in Brazil, India, and Peru, as they continue to support their latest album, Life Is But a Dream…...

We have been getting a lot of prequels in recent years. Some have turned out well, like Furiosa, Orphan: First Kill, Prey, and Pearl. Sometimes they don’t turn out very well, like Leatherface, and sometimes they can be quite divisive, like Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. Good or bad, prequels are here to stay, so we have put together a list of Horror Prequels We Want to See.

Just a few days ago, we heard that Reacher star Alan Ritchson is teaming up with Need for Speed and Expendables 4 director Scott Waugh for an action thriller called Runner, and now Deadline reports that Ritchson has also signed on to star in an action film called Painter, which will team him with Prey star Amber Midthunder and John Wick writer Derek Kolstad. The project is set up at FilmNation Entertainment‘s production label Infrared, and FilmNation will be launching distribution sales at the upcoming American Film Market in Las Vegas.
Former stuntman Garrett Warren, who served as stunt coordinator on the likes of Logan, Avatar, Alita: Battle Angel, and Road House, will be directing the film. Although Warren is also attached to direct a true crime drama called One Man’s War, it looks like Painter will turn out to be his feature directorial debut.

20th Century Studios is (like everyone else in Hollywood) in the business of scrapping the bottom of the barrel for any piece of exploitable IP that can salvage the disastrous box office. Recently, we learned that the "Predator" franchise is not only coming back with a new theatrical release, but that there's even the possibility of another "Alien vs. Predator" movie in addition to the "Alien: Romulus" sequel that's (obviously) already in the works. On top of all that, and much more surprisingly, it seems that Jack Aubrey is closer than ever to returning to the big screen in a "Master and Commander" prequel some 20 years after the original film.
Still, the first "Master and Commander" was a critical success and earned many an Oscar nomination, while the first "Alien vs. Predator" movie was pretty lucrative. Making more of those, especially when both the "Predator" film "Prey" and "Romulus" proved popular and successful,...

With both Alien and Predator franchises resurgent, 20th Century Studios appears to be considering a new meet-up for their title creatures.
It’s been a long time since the Alien and Predator franchises in the ascendancy. That’s where we are right now though, with Fede Alverez and Dan Trachtenberg respectively restoring each series to some modicum of its former glory. Alverez made this year’s well-received Alien: Romulus, while in 2022 Trachtenberg retooled the Predator series with Prey.
Both films have confirmed follow-ups on the way and in the case of Trachtenberg, he’s also helmed a ‘secret’ Predator film that will debut before Predator: Badlands arrives. Along with Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth TV show that’s also in the pipeline, there’s plenty of franchise potential bubbling away, right there.
So rewind to a few months back when Alverez was on the press tour for Alien: Romulus then,...

Bethesda’s and Todd Howard’s lineup of popular franchises like Fallout, Starfield, and the elusive Elder Scrolls 6 need a lot of focus and resources. But the shadow cast by these titles could block other fan-favorite series’ like Dishonored from ever seeing the light of day.

Despite previous rumors of a Dishonored 3, the recent closure of Arkane Austin, the primary studio behind the original games, casts doubt on its release. As Bethesda and its parent company, Microsoft, redirect resources to their more “high-impact” titles, the future of Dishonored looks bleaker than ever.
Todd Howard And Bethesda May Have Forever Doomed Dishonored 3
Bethesda’s ownership by Microsoft hasn’t been without its controversies. Microsoft shut down several studios earlier this year. One of these included Arkane Austin, the developer behind Redfall, a title that was not received well for many reasons.

It's truly a great time to be a fan of classic sci-fi creature horror films. Last year, the Predator franchise got a huge shot of adrenaline in the form of Prey, which saw the alien hunter face off against the Comanche warrior Naru (Amber Midthunder) on the Great Plains in the early 1700s. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, Prey revitalized the franchise in a huge way; if you ask me, it's arguably the best Predator movie in the entire series, and I say this as someone who grew up obsessed with the first two films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Glover, respectively.
Then, this year, we got two more big sci-fi sequels from 20th Century: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Alien: Romulus. And similar to Prey, both were huge hits that have the studio keen to capitalize on the momentum and make sequels.
That's no longer just conjecture.

The chief of 20th Century Studios has revealed that Dan Trachtenberg has made not one, but two Predator films… and they’re both releasing next year.
Well, here’s something of a shocker. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studio chief Steve Asbell was asked to confirm that next year’s Predator: Badlands would be getting a cinema release. As you’ll likely know, Dan Trachtenberg restored the Predator franchise to its former glory in 2022 with Prey, a storming prequel that as well as being a terrific film, also significantly broadened the canvas for what a Predator movie could be. Trachtenberg’s follow-up, Predator: Badlands is due next year, set in the future and seems like it might be looking to tear up the Predator rulebook all over again.

First up, Asbell revealed that Fede Alvarez is working on ideas for an Alien: Romulus sequel already, with the hope being that stars David Jonsson and Cailee Spaeny would be in the tank for a return. It is still sad to think that "Prey," the best "Predator" movie since the original, ended up going straight to Hulu. The film, which goes back in time to colonial days and follows a young Comanche woman who crosses paths with a Predator and must survive the alien's attacks — as well as brutal French fur traders — revitalized the "Predator" franchise and proved how versatile it can be when in the right hands.
It also proved that there was a big audience for these movies, and led to "Alien: Romulus" actually getting a theatrical release. Unsurprisingly, "Prey" was only the beginning, and it didn't take long before another movie was announced. Though we knew about "Badlands," a movie directed by "Prey" director Dan Trachtenberg and starring Elle Fanning, 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell told The Hollywood Reporter that there is another secret "Predator" movie in the works — and coming next year.

Back in February, it was announced that Prey director Dan Trachtenberg would become the first filmmaker to take the helm of two films in the Predator franchise, as he was moving ahead with a new Predator film titled Badlands, working from a screenplay by Prey screenwriter Patrick Aison (based on a story crafted by Trachtenberg himself). That movie started filming in New Zealand earlier this year, with Super 8‘s Elle Fanning in the lead – and earlier this week, it was revealed that Disney / 20th Century Studios will be giving Predator: Badlands a theatrical release on November 7, 2025. Now, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell let it slip that we’re actually getting two additions to the Predator franchise in 2025! They’re also plotting an Alien: Romulus sequel with that film’s director, Fede Alvarez – and they’re “probably” going to make another Alien vs. Predator movie.

Marvel Studios’ troubled Blade reboot won’t be arriving late next year, as its November 2025 slot is taken by Predator: Badlands.
Marvel Studios’ Blade will not be coming out on November 7th 2025. If you’ve been following the development woes of this particular project, that news won’t come as a surprise to you given that the above date is little more than a year away – and as yet, the film doesn’t officially have a director. Marvel first announced that it was making a new movie about Blade, the half-vampire vampire hunter played by Wesley Snipes in a trilogy of movies released between 1998 and 2004, in 2019, when it was still flinging spaghetti against the wall and hoping enough stuck to make people happy. Five years later, Blade has become a poster child for the discombobulation of our current Marvel era. It's been delayed multiple times and cycled through a number of directors, including Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange. Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali is still attached as the title character and Mia Goth is playing the supervillain Lilith, but at this rate who knows if we'll actually ever see them onscreen?
That question is coming up again now that Disney has bumped Blade from its latest release date of November 7, 2025, according to Deadline. The movie isn't on the studio's schedule at all anymore, although Disney has secured three new...

It was during San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 that Marvel announced two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali would play the superhero Blade in a new Marvel film set to arrive in theaters potentially as soon as late 2021 or early 2022.
Now five years later, Ali’s stab at Blade remains unmade. On Tuesday, Disney quietly announced that it had pulled the Marvel film from its scheduled release date of November 7, 2025. No new date has been publicly announced.
Progress on “Blade” has been slow and unsteady. Since the announcement in 2019, the project has cycled through two directors – Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange – and several writers. Ali was originally supposed to star alongside Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo in the film but both actors have since departed the project. Mia Goth was still attached, however, when she was doing press for “Maxxxine” this past summer.
“They really care, they do. They want to make a great movie.

Even though it seems obvious at this point, sad as that may be, Marvel's long gestating "Blade" reboot has officially lost its release date. The film, which is due to star Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali was previously set to hit theaters on November 7, 2025. That's no longer happening, leaving the project on uncertain ground. There is some good news, however, as Disney has opted to give that release date to something both deserving and exciting.
Disney has now officially given "Prey" director Dan Trachtenberg's new "Predator" movie "Predator: Badlands" the November release date previously reserved for "Blade." That means this one will get a theatrical release, unlike "Prey," which was dumped directly to Hulu in 2022. That release strategy has long been viewed as a mistake by Disney as the film was met with rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. It has been more than five years since Marvel Studios initially announced that Mahershala Ali would star in a new version of “Blade,” but this vampire is still in its coffin as Disney has removed the film from its release slate and is now delayed indefinitely.

The film marks the return of the ’80s horror icon to theaters after the critically acclaimed film “Prey” was released as a Hulu exclusive in 2022, with Dan Trachtenberg returning to direct and Elle Fanning in the lead role.
“Blade” has suffered repeated setbacks stemming both from its development process and from outside factors such as the Covid-19 pandemic and last year’s industry strikes. The film lost its second director, Yann Demange, back in June and has gone through several rewrites.

The Predator is returning to theaters, with Predator: Badlands arriving on Nov. 7, 2025.
The move comes after 20th Century Studios’ historical Predator feature Prey became a sleeper hit on Hulu in 2022. Prey director Dan Trachtenberg returns to helm Badlands, with Elle Fanning starring. Until now, it was unclear if the film would be for streaming for theatrical.
Predator takes the spot of Marvel Studios’ long-gestating Blade, which Disney removed from the release calendar. The move is not a surprise, as Blade is currently without a director and has faced numerous delays.
Marvel Studios announced Blade at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, but has hit a number of snags on the way to the screen, including the pandemic, labor strikes and losing two filmmakers. But the studio is intent on making the film, which stars Mahershala Ali as the titular vampire hunter. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed his commitment to the project in July,...

In the wake of Dan Trachtenberg’s (10 Cloverfield Lane) Prey going straight to Hulu back in 2022, we’ve learned that Disney will be releasing the follow-up film in theaters.
Also being directed by Trachtenberg, Predator: Badlands releases on November 7, 2025. Elle Fanning (The Neon Demon) has been set to star in the fresh new installment.
It’s interesting to note that November 7, 2025 had been the date occupied by Marvel’s long-delayed Blade reboot, but that project has now been bumped off the schedule completely.
Dan Trachtenberg is on board to co-write and direct Badlands. We don’t know much of anything about the movie at this time, but we understand it’s set to be another solo movie rather than a sequel to Prey. Stay tuned for more on Predator: Badlands as we learn it.

In what comes as no surprise, Marvel Studios’ Blade won’t be coming out on Nov. 7, 2025, rather Disney is opening 20th Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands.
The reboot of the famed Wesley Snipes Marvel movie was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 with 2x Oscar winner Mahershala Ali starring. Production and development on Blade hit unavoidable delays with a global pandemic and dual industry strikes.
The project saw two directors exit, first Bassam Tariq, who was eyeing a fall 2022 start, then Yann Demange. Mia Goth is set to play supervillian Lilith in the vampire slayer movie. She told Deadline’s Natalie Sitek at the world premiere of her A24 movie MaXXXine, that in regards to the Blade delays, Marvel “really care, they do. They want to make a great movie. That’s the sense that I get from them and that feels good.”

Prey star Amber Midthunder is set to face-off against a very different - and much bigger - kind of Predator in her next project.
According to Variety, the Legion alum has joined the cast of the second season of Apple TV+ MonsterVerse spin-off series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, in a heavily recurring role. Midthunder will play a character named as Isabel, who is described as “an intelligent and powerful businesswoman.”
Season 1 stars Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski are expected to return. Whether we will see Kurt and Wyatt Russell (they played the same character across two different timelines) after the events of the season 1 finale remains to be seen.

Prequels to horror movies are a common practice. Based on audience reactions, a filmmaker’s interest, or the production house’s lust for the big bucks, some character or element from the original film is picked up and fleshed out via a story set in the narrative’s past. And the results are always very hit or miss. Final Destination 5 mostly played out like a standalone film and only revealed that it was a prequel at the end, thereby surprising everyone. Paranormal Activity 3, despite its insane box-office run, felt like an unnecessary addition to the franchise. Prey was so good that it almost surpassed the quality of Predator. Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist was a huge mess. The First Omen impressed critics and audiences but seemed pretty unoriginal to me. Orphan: First Kill was straight-up bad. Prometheus was lambasted for being an unnecessary addition to the...

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things (which is also the last season of the show) finally went into production at the start of the year and is now deep into its twelve month shooting schedule… So deep, in fact, that the cast has gotten together for a read-through the script for the final episode – and while speaking with ComicBook.com, cast member David Harbour revealed there was “heavy weeping” during the reading of that script.
Stranger Things has the following synopsis: A love letter to the ‘80s classic genre films that captivated a generation, Stranger Things is a thrilling drama set in the seemingly normal Midwestern town of Hawkins, Indiana. After a boy vanishes into thin air, his close-knit group of friends and family search for answers and are pulled into a high-stakes and deadly series of events.

2024 got off to a very rough start at the box office, particularly in regards to mainstream horror releases. In 2022 and 2023, horror proved to be one of the most bankable genres that theaters could depend on in the aftermath of the pandemic. Unfortunately, the likes of "Night Swim," "Imaginary," "Abigail," and others disappointed earlier this year. Things have rebounded and we now have hits such as "A Quiet Place: Day One" and the unexpected $100 million hit that was "Longlegs." One movie stands tall above the rest though, and that movie is "Alien: Romulus." Even more crazy to consider? That movie nearly went straight to Hulu.
On its fourth weekend in theaters, director Fede Alvarez's "Romulus" added another $3.9 million to its ever-growing total domestically. "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" took the lion's share of the attention with a massive $111 million opening, but the latest "Alien" movie is still holding its own. To that end,...

Terminator Zero Showrunner Defends Terminator Salvation - Main Image
Any longtime Terminator fan knows that the fandom has long held the belief that the last good Terminator film was Terminator 2, and everything else between Terminator 3 and Dark Fate has been a poor entry in the story of Humanity vs. Skynet.

“People Were Tough on Terminator Salvation”
Talking to DiscussingFilm, Tomlin talks about previous entries in the franchise that he liked, and besides the first movie, he singled out 2009’s Terminator: Salvation, which McG directed. Tomlin says:

While horror remakes are inevitable, its rare that international filmmakers are hired to helm American remakes of their originals. Even fewer filmmakers get to make not one, but Two movies about sentient killer elevators (Killovators? Murdervators?). Lucky for us, Dick Maas laughs in the face of convention. His feature debut, The Lift, is a zany 1980s concoction of A.I. paranoia and cable-attached monsters, kickstarting his career as an odd duckling who cherishes a proper B-Movie script. Movies like Amsterdamned, Prey (aka Uncaged), and Sint would further cement his audacious brand of metropolitan nightmares that treat midnight movie storylines with higher prestige, only adding to the Dutchman’s legacy.
Maas’ The Lift might seem like a strange choice for an American remake—a procedural thriller about corrupt elevator companies—but it’s hailed as one of the Netherlands’ premiere horror imports. Imagine an episode of The Twilight Zone with more...

Good news for fans of 20th Century's long-running Predator franchise: production on the next Predator film has reportedly begun in New Zealand. This news comes via AvP Galaxy, a fansite dedicated to the Alien and Predator franchises, which claims to have gotten ahold of a casting notice for a mystery movie codenamed "Backpack." According to the site, the notice has several indicators that it is in fact about Dan Trachtenberg's Badlands, and the idea that it's begun filming is backed up by multiple reports from a New Zealand newspaper about a large American film production setting up shop in the area around Rotorua.
Now, as exciting as the idea of Dan Trachtenberg filming his next Predator movie is, I need to give a very large disclaimer here that the information is not confirmed in any official capacity, so it'd be wise to take it with a very large grain of salt.

The storied V/H/S horror anthology series is going to the great beyond. The Hollywood Reporter has the first trailer for V/H/S/ Beyond, the seventh installment in the franchise, which launched in 2012 as a project featuring multiple found-footage short films.
The latest chapter focuses on sci-fi horror, and bows at the genre-centric Fantastic Fest next month in Austin before hitting the streaming service Shudder on Oct. 4.

Disney didn't exactly have a banner year (by Disney standards anyhow) in 2023. None of the studio's films topped $1 billion last year which, again, is not the marker for success. However, for a studio with as many reliable franchises as Disney has, it's notable, particularly when movies like "The Marvels" and "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" flopped so badly. In any event, the Mouse House is having a real bounce-back year in 2024, with "Inside Out 2" literally ranking as one of the biggest movies of all-time at this point. Yet, oddly enough, it's R-rated movies that are truly leading the way for the traditionally family-friendly company at the moment.
This past weekend, Disney held the number one and number two spots at the box office, with "Deadpool & Wolverine" reclaiming the top spot in its fifth weekend with $18.3 million. Meanwhile, last weekend's champion "Alien: Romulus" landed at number two with $16.2 million.
