The One Where Nathan Is Shot...
taylorkingston9 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode. It's just so good. We get to meet new characters and see who actually shot Nathan.

In this episode, we find out that Peter from four years in the future, is the one who shot Nathan. He travelled back in time to stop him from telling the world about his abilities, since the future has become a dark, dangerous, scary place. More so than it already was. Whilst attempting to catch the shooter, Matt gets teleported to Africa. Hiro has taken control of his fathers company. He finds out that his father had a deadly secret in his vault, and when Hiro goes to open it, a "speedster" comes and steals it. We meet Tracy Strauss, who bares an uncanny resemblance to Niki. And Sylar finds Claire to try and steal her healing ability.

Overall, I give this episode a 9 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Amazing.

Anyway here what going on in this episode:

Angela confronts Peter; Sylar attacks the Company's main facility; Claire has a revelation about her powers; a group of dangerous criminals escape during a battle with Elle; Hiro and Ando follow Daphne to Paris; Matt seeks help from a guide (Ntare Mwine); Suresh is pleased with the recent developments in his life.

An exhilarating roller-coaster ride
gridoon20243 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This thoroughly delightful episode of "Heroes" is possibly the best of the series up to that point (the start of Season 3). After a long delay due to the writers' strike, the creators of the show had a lot of audience anticipation to deliver upon....and they did. From the shocker of the identity of the man who shot Nathan Petrelli to the mind-blowing (no pun intended) scene of Sylar slowly examining the open brain of a still-conscious Claire and from Hiro's father's video messages ("I told you not to open the safe!") to his apocalyptic vision of Tokyo in the future which for the first time seems to get Ando really involved in the action, "The Second Coming" is an exhilarating roller-coaster ride. I don't know if the rest of season 3 will make sense of all this craziness, but taken on its own this episode is a must. ***1/2 out of 4.

The speedster effect..
partymongerh23 September 2008
After the second season, most of the people wanted Tim Kring to do a Hiro Nakamura, and wipe Heroes Season 2 of the face of the Earth.. Well guess what? They got their wish..Albeit in Hero's style..Yup, Tim Kring does a speedster..The episode starts off at a place where none of us in our wildest dreams could have thought it would..Then the sheer velocity it picks up, the mind numbing speed of all that action...Wow...

Watching Heroes has always been an exhilarating experience..But this time its up another level..Breathtaking i'd say..Nothing short of a film, the 2hr premier leaves you dying for more action...Ah..Hiro, Peters, Claire, Nathan, and almost every other hero, back in action!! Hell even those who "almost" died are back and back with a bang!!

Boy did they BANG!!! The first two episodes make what can be called the golden 2hrs in history of television..Bang after bang, turn after turn, it just doesn't stop..And whats better is that it leaves you craving for loads more...

My only gripe, a bit of character buildup was lacking..The theme "Ordinary people discover extraordinary powers" is lacking throughout the 2hrs..But then thats coming in the following episodes hopefully..If not who knows, Tim Kring always has Hiro Nakamura!!

Lastly, i hope we get to see more of the narrator's superb narration. It sets up the whole atmosphere. This is one place where things can be better,at least equal to Season 1.

Ciao.

far away from season one...
MattDevivre23 September 2008
Though season two looked pale, I had hopes for the third "Heroes" volume. These hopes crashed during the first two episodes.

One point I'd criticize is the missing build up. You may expect one action sequence following the other - without substance and content. Character development (which in my opinion is one strength of season one) almost fully disappeared. While during season two the characters already turned more and more black and white this trend seems to find continuation. The story at several moments gets bloodcurdling stupid (soap opera style). Not that "Heroes" is known for realism. Only it can be too much none-sense and this show deserves better.

In a short: Pointless and very confused start of the new "Heroes" season. Perhaps some writers were still striking. Eventually if you prefer action that lacks content you might enjoy it but for your own sake do not try to think about it.

What the hell??
massoto_youko27 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I had great expectations for this new season of Heroes, but these first two episodes turned out to be quite depressing.

It seems that the writers wanted to "start with a bang" and they simply chose to abandon logic just to give the viewers a couple of "twists" on the "plot".

More Sylar??? Is he going to be The Villain of every season? I thought the idea was to explore different ideas every volume. Hiro Nakamura completely changed his personality, all of a sudden he doesn't trust Ando anymore, just because of a vision that is (obviously) not what it seems.

The best thing on the episode was the idea of how Hiro and the Speedster interact. At least it looks like she's going to be a good character.

The only thing that really caught my attention was Niki turning into Tracy Strauss, and I would like to see how it happened, but it's nothing that will keep me awake at night.

Even Kristen Bell's performance was not as satisfying as her previous ones, but I hope it's only a one-episode-thing. She's still the only reason I'll watch the whole season, but if the so-called surprises continue and the story becomes even more ridiculous, I'll just give up, because, really, Angela Petrelli, Sylar's mother????

Come on, people, get a grip.

heroes jumps the shark!
t_imdb-34815 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The first season of heroes was amazing, because first and foremost it was a fabulous yarn. It wasn't so much about the powers, it was about the discovery of those powers, the interaction of the characters and their personal journeys, and the complex interweaving of story lines. It was gripping and I couldn't wait for the following week's episode. If it was a book, it would be a page turner. Characters stayed believable and although there were a few holes in the narrative, mostly it was a fantastic roller-coaster ride, with a fine script, some neat twists, a great villain, and a neat potboiler (is Noah Bennet good or evil?). And of course, they weren't really "saving the world", just New York. For the most part, it worked. Season two was a little drab, confusing and listless of course, maybe due to the writers' strike, and come season three we see some of those characters summarily ditched (copycat girl, fly-boy, Irish love interest). And now the problems begin.

Niki Sanders is dead - and when she meets her son, with the coffin just over there, the son is as cool as a cucumber. Not much grieving going on there then. As mentioned, Suresh has become a sex-crazed mad scientist, Peter Petrelli has come back from the future to bully his earlier self and kill his brother (as mentioned, why so extreme?). WHY has he got a scar if he can heal like Claire Bennett? His mother is "taking over the company" - well, lordy, she never had this kind of power before. Plotwise, Peter imprisoned in the body of another (why did he do that? That seems a bit weird and contrived and well, frankly spinning out of control.) A bunch of psychopath super-powered criminals go and rob a bank. Why should we care? We don't know anything about them. Sylar gets a role totally out of keeping with him (what are his motivations anyhow? It used to be something about becoming president). Somehow Noah Bennet has become either bespectacled James Bond or the Cooler King. Lindeman comes back as an invisible mentor know all. What the hell is that all about? And on an on it goes. The dialogue has become pure marvel comic, the character's story arcs are ridiculous or farcical and to me, it doesn't seem to hang together well at all. The heroes team were to be congratulated in the first season for bringing a fresh inventive style, but now there is definitely a "jumping the shark" moment.

I no longer look forward to the next episode - the first "volume" was great in the way a big fat bestseller thriller is: inexorably you can feel the chains of fate tautening as you reach the conclusion. That the story has some meaning and breadth of vision.

I'm afraid that all this has been sacrificed for a non-stop conveyor belt of special effects, character transgressions, ultra contrived plot lines, and a complete lack of central logic, only heightening the terrible vacuous centre of this makeover.

Heroes S3E01 niggles...
leesim5 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Glad to see Heroes back, as it is a great TV show.

I just have a few niggles with S3E01, the main ones being: When Sylar gets to Claire, and starts to open her skull, why didn't it heal itself like Peter's did in season 1? When he has the top of her skull removed, why didn't it regrow, as her toe did when she cut it off? Sylar was still looking for the part of her brain that had her power at that time, so he couldn't have suppressed it.

If Sylar doesn't eat the brains of his victims, then what does he do with them? Does he have a trophy cabinet at home with all of these prize brains in it? I could go on, but I don't want to seem overly negative to what is a one of the best shows on TV at the moment.
