- A new intersect will be running in 24 hours. What happens to the old one - Chuck? Returning to a normal life, he asks Sarah on their first real date.
- Team Chuck recovers some equipment. They're told it's the last component for the new Intersect, which will be brought on line. Chuck is relieved at the prospect of returning to a normal life and asks Sarah out. Meanwhile Casey receives orders that cause some inner conflict.—Jesse Sanchez
- When the CIA believes everything is ready to put the new, virtual Intersect online, the team is ordered to part. Chuck is promised his life back, so he delights Awesome, whom he accidentally sees 'in full glory' in the shower, and Ellie by announcing his plans to finish college, move out and start a career. Thus Chuck refuses to apply for the assistant manager role Mike destined him for at the Buy More. Sara agrees to a first and probably last 'real', private dinner date. Casey was ordered to terminate Chuck, as as security risk, but that's canceled when the CIA realizes Fulcrum agent Colt's team sabotaged a vital Intersect component and is after Chuck.—KGF Vissers
- A scary man holds Chuck (Zachary Levi) upside down over the ledge of a window. The computer nerd-turned-spy holds the "Cipher," a nifty looking disc-sized gizmo.
"Last chance," the scary man bellows. "Who are you?"
"Chuck," Chuck says. "The thing is that I kinda sorta work for the CIA and the NSA in my off hours when I'm not working at the store. It's kind of a second job for me."
Chuck then warns the scary dude that hurting him will make a few government folks very upset. Speak of the devil, Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) and Casey (Adam Baldwin) burst through the door, guns drawn.
"Let the geek go!" Casey bellows.
The scary dude throws Chuck back into the room and escapes by repelling down the side of the building. "You got it?" Casey asks. Chuck hands the agent the Cipher.
"Course, I got it," Chuck says. "It's me."
Indeed.
Later, the trio relaxes by watching a live video feed from headquarters. Director Graham (Tony Todd) explains to Sarah the Cipher is the "artificial brain for the new intersect computer."
"The new Intersect?" Chuck asks.
Oh, yes and the Cipher is the final piece. But if the new Intersect is almost ready to go, what happens to the old Intersect? That is, what happens to Chuck?
"Operation Bartowski officially comes to an end," Graham says. "No more briefings. No more missions. No more spies. Enjoy the rest of your life, Chuck."
Chuck is sanguine, even happy, about this latest development. Maybe he was never cut out to be a super spy anyway. "I'm pretty sure my girlish screams in the face of danger give me away," he tells Sarah. The two share a longing look. Maybe there's something that he'll miss after all
Inside, Beckman (Bonita Friedericy) gives Casey a final order. Turns out the government doesn't love the idea of having another Intersect wandering around town. "You have your orders, Major," she says. "Tomorrow night, eliminate Chuck Bartowski."
Uh oh. Will they have to re-name the show?
Chuck awakens at 7 a.m. to "Hip to Be Square." He turns it up and gets ready for the first (or last) day of his new life and then runs into Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and Captain Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) together in the shower. Buzz kill, seeing your sis nekkid.
Back at Buy More, Chuck pulls Casey aside to say thank you for protecting him. "Look, I just want to say I'm going to miss you, man," Chuck says. "You were always there to catch me when I fell, which sounds horribly cheesy now that I'm saying it."
Casey, already feeling guilty about his latest assignment, says "forget it" and storms off.
Big Mike (Mark Christopher Lawrence) calls Chuck in to his office to promote him. But Chuck, inspired by Sarah's "you can do anything" speech, turns him down. His punishment: Interview and choose an assistant manager from the remainder of the Nerd Herd.
The assignment only confirms what Chuck has been thinking. "I'm not completely convinced that the Buy More is where I want to work forever,' he tells Morgan (Joshua Gomez).
Chuck takes a break and visits Sarah at the yogurt store. Viewers are treated to a slow-motion, tongue-in-cheek montage of the CIA babe whipping up a cup of the cold stuff. Chuck, like the rest of us, is smitten.
"You want to go on a date sometime?" a nervous Chuck asks. "I mean a date without aliases and spy gear and a mission."
Sarah can think of a thousand reasons why she shouldn't, except that Chuck is just so darn cute, isn't he? She agrees. "No gun fight, I promise," Chuck says.
Montage time! Chuck gets ready. Casey gets ready by choosing a gun. Sarah gets ready at the mirror (in her undies no less). Casey shoots pictures of Hitler and Osama bin Laden but misses one of Chuck. A sign?
The doorbell rings. It's a delivery man. An exchange of cool-sounding passwords later, Casey hands the man the Cipher and the delivery guy gasses Casey via a small hose in his sleeve!
"It's done," the delivery guys says into his cell phone. "I have the Cipher."
None other than scary man is on the other end. "Go to the second location," he says.
Chuck and Sarah eat dumplings at a Chinese restaurant. The fledgling spy lays out his feelings for his faux girlfriend who he wants to be his real girlfriend. Words such as cool and incredibly beautiful are tossed around. It's a bona fide moment, folks.
They lean in to kiss when Chuck suddenly has an Intersect moment. Seems there is a gun trafficker at the next table eating dinner with an assassin. The entire wait staff is also made up of hard-core criminal types. "We're surrounded," Chuck says.
The scary guy, who calls himself Mr. Colt (Michael Clarke Duncan), enters. He politely asks Chuck to come with him and not so politely threatens to break Sarah's neck. Suddenly, Chuck sees the glare of headlights coming straight at the restaurant's windows.
"Is that a Crown Victoria?" Chuck asks.
BOOM! The Crown Vic with Casey at the wheel bursts through the front wall. Chuck and Sarah hustle into the car, which backs out and speeds away. Casey then breaks the news about the missing Cipher.
''Looks like you're still the Intersect, Chuck,'' Casey says.
The next morning, Chuck arrives at work to conduct interviews with the assistant manager candidates. Casey bursts into the room to get coffee and Chuck (or, rather, the Intersect) recognizes the pattern of the fresh scar on the undercover agent's face. It's a ring worn by a specific criminal organization.
Chuck (the Intersect) also happens to know the exact location of the group's hideout. Casey is reluctant (he really doesn't want to kill Chuck)
''Relax, I'm not going to rush us into a hideout situation,'' Casey says. ''We'll get the Cipher. It just might take some time.'' Casey obviously doesn't want to kill Chuck, but Chuck obviously wants to recover the Cipher and get his old life back. Casey makes a call. He and Sarah will head over to the criminal hideout.
''You go back to work,'' Sarah says.
So Chuck goes back to work only to be sent back out immediately by Big Mike on a Nerd Herd computer emergency. He answers the call and it's none other than Mr. Colt. Sarah and Casey, meanwhile, storm what they thought to be the hideout and find it cleared out. They're too late.
Thinking quickly, Chuck attempts to outsmart Mr. Colt. ''My name is Charles Carmichael,'' he says. ''I'm a CIA agent and this is my trap.''
Chuck then explains the particulars of the operation the number of men, weaponry, etc. and calls Morgan to have the information verified. Of course, Morgan believes Chuck is talking about their ongoing game of Call of Duty multiplayer.
Mr. Colt apparently doesn't play Call of Duty. He is convinced the CIA is waiting to ambush him outside. ''He's either lying or he's crazy,'' Mr. Colt says. ''Check everywhere!''
In the confusion, Chuck grabs the Cipher and makes a break for it. Mr. Colt follows. The chase doesn't last long and Chuck soon finds himself hanging over a ledge again. Again, Sarah busts onto the scene. Mr. Colt, deciding it ain't worth it, lets Chuck go.
''Nooo!'' Sarah screams.
Luckily, Casey happens to be on the fire escape below. He grabs Chuck's arm mid-fall and hauls him to safety. Back on the roof, Sarah gets into a vicious fight with Mr. Colt. It ends when Mr. Colt's men arrive. It looks as if Sarah is doomed.
But wait! Chuck er, Charles Carmichael emerges with his own men (or Casey's men, actually). ''Maybe you could go ahead and put your weapons down,'' Chuck tells Colt and his henchmen. ''And then put your hands up to imply your hands are empty.''
''Your boss Carmichael,'' says Mr. Colt while being cuffed, "He's good." Sarah beams.
Back at his sis's place, Chuck readies the dining room for another hot date with Sarah. Casey, reluctant but following orders, sneaks in through the window. His gun is drawn and his face is set. This could be the end of Chuck (again)!
But wait (again)! At CIA headquarters, General Graham plugs in the Cipher. And then the entire room explodes. Goodbye, fake Cipher. Goodbye, General Graham. Goodbye, Intersect Room.
Sarah arrives for the big date with bad news. It was a Trojan Horse a sabotage device, she says of the Cipher. Chuck remains the only Intersect. Unseen by both, Casey lowers his gun and backs away. Chuck is safe. For now.
The next day, Chuck is back at work. He contemplates his place in life when Morgan interrupts. Jeff (Scott Krinsky) had accepted a bet to eat 90 Twinkies. He may die, says a giggling Morgan. This, Chuck says, he has to see.
Perhaps life as the Intersect isn't so bad after all.
