Funny, Enjoyable, Fresh...
AngSkl9 March 2020
"Ballad for a Pierced Heart" exceeds all expectations and brings something new to the table that Greek Cinema has never seen before. Black comedy, Drama, Noir. Director Yannis Economides successfully merges all those genres into one masterfully executed and acted(!) film, ready to inspire a new generation of filmmakers. The cinematography is excellent and fits perfectly with the tone the director was going for. There really are no big flaws with this "Ballad", maybe if I had to nitpick I would say that the score of the film is sometimes a little bit off but it never takes you out of the experience. In conclusion "Ballad for a Pierced Heart" is absolutely what it needed to by both for the audience and the modern era of Greek Cinema.

I hope that you can find a good translation to understand the film... in any case and especially if you are Greek, you will love it!!!

Ok, don't miss this one, two hours of pure fun.

Not a second goes by without excitement.

Amazing acting. One of the best Greek movies I have ever seen.

A Greek film noir worth seeing.

I definitely will never understand the reviewers that rate this movie with one star. It definitely can't be one of the worst movies they've seen. The movie is well directed and with multiple twists. Actors (especially the protagonist) are doing a great job. Many funny scenes especially if you're Greek.

Waste of time

I rarely strongly dislike a film that makes it to AFI's festivals but this was a huge disappointment. Was looking forward to what was described as a thriller and a comedy. Neither funny nor thrilling, with characters with no nuance or complexity, only watch if you want to spend two hours seeing people yell and kill each other.

Not worth it at all.

What a waste of time after a long period of ''waiting''. A simple rip off of stories similar to stories of Tarantino and Guy Richie. Extremely bad cast and teribble dialogues especially of the main character that looks more like failled footballer than a singer. For some kind of reason director chooses the use inappropriate language in almost every scene that not only it is pointless but also leaves a sense that Greeks talks like that and if you own a night club its ok to talk dirty to everyone include your mother .... Mediocre directing with ''artistic'' meaningless plans. And finally the persistence of the director to use in almost every movie the same actors playing similar roles. Just not worth AT ALL.

It's a bad movie

Not worth your time, stereotype all the time, the same dialogues on repeat with a autistic twist. It was some times,I try to cover my ears because I can't stand the yelling and the repeatable phrases (typical Economidis films). The script has no imagination and the only good moment at the end because that tragedy stops..We was waiting this movie for a long time and it was a big disappointment. The Greek cinema must reconstruct and follow other countries before is to late...

Soap opera acting transfered in the big screen!
peripatitis7 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ok so for the first hour of the film, nothing really happens, unless you call "something" an expose of the worst acting ever printed on film.

People in various settings, cafe's, sofa's, bar's taking in turns in shouting and swearing at each other or on some situation. I've seen soap operas with better tempo than this thing. It is really like watching paint dry. So much time is wasted on silences between the dialogue, close up on faces, etc I honestly don't get what the director had in mind with that. The second half of the film improves, there is some action and some questionable story lines, but it works like a film of that genre. Overall, the story is fine, as is the photography and many production elements. However, there are too many fillers imo (music scenes where nothing really happens, but the killing of our time) and the film seems to be separated by a rather ambitious "taking of pelham" kind of film music theme in two parts. (the music is pretty nice, although perhaps the composer wasn't informed that this is a bad comedy, not an adventurous film).
