Okay, but nothing really memorable

Warning: Spoilers
"The Milkman" is an American 16-minute movie from 2008, so this one will have its 10th anniversary next year. It is probably the most known work by writer and director Mark Nicholson who brought in his own family history with this one as it is based on a man working as milkman, but in fact this was all just facade as his real profession was with the mafia. It is kinda okay overall, never particularly good or bad and I found it looks much older than it actually is, maybe intentionally so as the story took place in the 1950s. It is decent for a short film, but it really should not have been much longer. Today it is mostly known because it has the Duffer Brothers, the creators of Stranger Things, in it in one of their rare acting performances. This is probably also what gave this little live action film the boost up the IMDb Starmeter. I don't think it is the action, contents or plot. So yeah if you really are a sucker for films about organized crime, then feel free to give it a go. But otherwise you aren't missing too much either and from what I saw here, I am not too surprised Nicholson's filmmaking career was rather short. There is some solid ambition in here, but the execution (no pun intended!) and several production values are just not on the level to make this a satisfying watch. I give it a thumbs-down overall.

The Milkman is a nice little film.

The Milkman is a short film with a great deal of merit. It's quality is excellent in both filming and musical score. The camera work and framing shows a great deal of competency that is frequently missing with new directors.

The only real drawbacks are a slightly wooden performance by the actors and a lack of lighting. Due to these factors, the film seems to lack the mood which should be present in a film which relies on a character-driven study of a hit man. The story is well written, although predictable.

All in all, I rate it a 7. It's worth spending 15 minutes of your life on.

Worth the 15 minutes

This film is given much appreciation for how short it is and the fact that it is a true story. Sometimes we don't want a long drawn out movie to know what actually happened we just want to get the general idea of the character and the events occurred. This is the first film that did that and even with a low budget to work with, it was well done.

The character seemed like and interesting man and in the end he had to make a hard decision that most people would never be able to follow through on. Even though he lived with terrible ethics, he had a strong character that kept him upright and he took care of what he felt was necessary for an undesirable path. For that reason alone it's worth the 15 minutes.
