Sweet and Entertaining Romantic Comedy
claudio_carvalho7 January 2012
In Denver, the decorator Jackie Laurens (Heather Locklear) has divorced from her husband Daniel Laurens (Cameron Bancroft), who had cheated on her and now is living with the younger Melinda (Christy Greene). Jackie has a son, Will, and a daughter, Jessica, and she is stressed especially with a demanding client. Jackie will be forty on December, 30th, and her friend Kristine (Vanessa Williams) gives a short vacation at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel to her to celebrate her birthday. However, Kristine's mother has a health problem and Jackie travels alone to Honolulu.

Jackie meets the handsome twenty-seven year-old surf instructor Kyle Hamilton (Robert Buckley) and they have one night stand. However, they fall in love with each other and Jackie travels to Hawaii to meet Kyle whenever she can. She discloses her love affair to her close friends that do not approve her relationship with a man thirteen years younger than she. When Jessica has an accident, Jackie travels back to Denver in the first available flight and Daniel disapproves her behavior. Jackie decides to break off with Kyle, but on the Christmas Eve, Jackie has a big surprise.

First of all, congratulations to the forty-six year-old actress Heather Locklear, who convinces that she is forty with her shape and beauty. It is impressive how a woman can keep such body with forty and something years.

"Flirting with Forty" is a sweet and entertaining romantic comedy about difference of ages when the woman is older than the man. The funny joke with the Moores (Julianne and Demi) is partially dated in 2012, but love is eternal while it lasts and Jackie should stay with Kyle, no matter what other people say. My vote is six.

A story about love and age differences
Naughtia_Nah25 August 2011
I thought this was a sweet and contemporary story.

A woman is divorced and lives the hard life as a single mom of two. When she turns 40 she reaches a turning point of her life and realizes that she really can enjoy all the aspects of her life, she meets a much younger attractive surfer and her friends begin to worry about her choice and think that she's reached a midlife crisis. She is happy and in love, could life be any better?

I thought this movie was very romantic and sweet, and it raises some good points about age differences and love. I liked it because I felt like I could very easily relate to the story. I also must mention that Heather Locklear looks as great as ever.

deeper message

This is a charming tale of double standards and age discrimination in our society. It isn't an earth shatteringly intelligent film and requires no concentration to watch it after a long, hard day. The scenery is stunning and Heather Locklear, the heroine is lovely.

The heroine is divorced, after her husband went off with an airhead bimbo who allows the kids to eat what they want. We are informed that Bimbo is 14 years younger than the husband. Which everyone just accepts. No problem. But when the heroine has a holiday fling with a handsome young man... whoooa ... everyone raises an eyebrow. As I said double standards. Why? The young male lover is seriously decorative. You can watch this at a couple of levels, lazing in the armchair with a glass of wine or pondering life's injustices. It won't get any awards but it's OK.

A great romantic comedy
Gordon-1114 February 2010
This film is about a separated woman who is approaching forty years old, finding a renewed surge of excitement in her love life while vacationing in Hawaii.

"Flirting With Forty" may have a predictable plot, but it is well executed from beginning to end. The female lead, Heather Locklear, is convincing as a woman who needs a relationship after a failed marriage. The male lead, Robert Buckley, is very good looking and charming. He is also convincing as a bright and cheerful surfer who knows how to enjoy life. The ups and downs of their relationship are portrayed well, especially the up parts. The scenery is amazing, and production is good too. In short, "Flirting With Forty" is a great romantic comedy that deserves more attention.

It is an OK movie...
anitaa_in8 December 2008
Since I has nothing else, I started watching this movie...I planned to watch it only for 10 mins, but it became quite interesting and I had to watch the end before I sleep...till the end I was not sure how this would end, though I has a slight feeling that it might end like this.. ... I could clearly see how much trouble/complications it would be to have hawaii lover and 2 kids back at Denver... this is a nice, slow, pleasant movie to watch and feel good. I just loved the hawaii lover, though he looked young for the heroine...:-( And the 2 kids are good too...The hawaii scenes could have been better, I mean they could have shown more hawaii stuff & places. If it comes on TV, try to watch...U may like it :-)

Flirting With 40- It's Still the Same Old Story ***
edwagreen4 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The older woman with a younger guy syndrome. Of course, when her husband falls for a younger girl, this is perfectly all right. This seems to be the norm in society.

While on vacation, Jackie, (Locklear) falls for a younger guy, a surf instructor. Her friends back at home try to dissuade her from such a relationship. Even her former husband, who is living with a younger girl, has his criticisms as well. There are 2 children involved.

When you think of it, this is really an updated version of 1955's "All that Heaven Allows," with Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson. Of course, that was far superior because of the likes of Janie and Rock and the marvelous supporting cast of Jacqueline de Wit, the town's vicious gossip and Wyman friend, Agnes Moorehead.

A lot of these films have the same common denominator. While there shall be an understanding at the end, the husband loses his new girlfriend.

"Flirting" with 40...?!?!?!?!?
moviedude19 December 2008
OK, so I don't buy this flirting idea with Heather Locklear, but the premise of the movie is there, and she was the only reason that I tuned in to watch this film (that, and the fact there was nothing else on the tube).

Locklear stars as a recently-divorced woman who is about to turn forty and her best friend hooks her up with a trip to the Islands for a little Holiday getaway, which turns into a May-December romance (well, OK, she's only September). Once again, love is given a chance in a long distance relationship, even though her children, her friends, her ex-husband (who's dating a woman just as young as the one Locklear is dating), and her common sense tell her something completely different from what her heart is saying.

You know, this isn't a bad movie, but plot is a little overdone. I think we all hope that love can overcome any obstacles, which I believe is the message of this movie, but I can't help think about the saying, "50 is the new 40," when it comes to this movie, because Locklear is WAY beyond the "39 and holding" age. Maybe it's just because I remember seeing her in "TJ Hooker" with William Shatner when she still carried her baby-fat in her face.

3 out of 10 stars.

Horrible
vuvietdung27 July 2010
I accidentally turned the TV to star movies and started watching this movie just because I live in Hawaii and I saw Diamond head, which I personally found the only true thing about Oahu in this movie.

This movie must have been written based on a novel of an author who found herself a lot unattractive and rewarded herself with such a fantasy. The main character is too old and her acting sucks. Anyone who still thinks this stupid movie is true, go to Hawaii and you are welcome to stay with me for free if you could find such a surfer on the beach. Oh, and skip the broke ones too, if you're better looking than that cougar, i'm sure you can find a great 6 packed lad with buckets of money too. Come on, we are not 13 year-old teenagers to believe in such things. Get real!

Cheap romance novel brought to TV
attilaboncok28 March 2021
About 20-30 mins (or less) into the movie, one realizes that this is a fantasy, void of any kind of reality. Because of course, a young, ripped, model like surf instructor will start hitting on a 40-year old single mom, without the women doing/showing anything special.

This is the baseless love fantasy of an average, middle-aged women.

I liked it for Heather Locklear.
TxMike10 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Heather Locklear and I go way back, to about 1986. No, we have never met, but I recall having a poster of her on my cubicle wall at work back then. She was a 20-something starlet, promoting some sort of fitness business, I forget which. But I never forgot Heather. In fact my wife and I have a running joke, if Heather Locklear ever shows up at my front door, asking for me, then I have permission to run off with her!

I suppose with a not-so-hidden vanity motive on her part, Heather Locklear, who is rapidly approaching 50, plays Jackie Laurens, about to turn 40, in this TV movie. She is divorced, with children, and a successful decorator in Denver. But she has no man in her life. To take away the sting of turning 40, her best friend presents her with two tickets and hotel reservations to Hawaii, for both of them to go and enjoy the vacation, and do whatever single women do there.

Vanessa Williams as Kristine is her friend, but as they meet up in the airport terminal Kristine tells her of a family emergency, she can't go, but Jackie is to go ahead and enjoy the trip. She sets out alone.

After being hit upon rather quickly by an orthodontist at a conference, she is rescued by Robert Buckley as Kyle Hamilton who recognizes what is going on. He is a 27 year old beach bum and surfer instructor, which Jackie immediately recognizes is way too young for her. But she cannot resist his charms and they hook up anyway.

Thinking this was just to be a one-nighter Jackie is surprised when Kyle shows up over and over, and they begin a very improbable relationship. He doesn't seem to be bothered at all by their age differences.

The movie isn't great and the acting is just adequate, but I enjoyed it for Heather Locklear. I don't even mind that she played a character almost 10 years younger than her real age. She looks pretty good for almost 50!

Just a great movie :)
wantitall788 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I have just seen this movie and i just wanna say that it is awesome. The chemistry between Locklear and Buckley are amazing, it's funny sexy and most importantly, it challenges the view society has built regarding single women over 35.

Pretty early in the movie you find out that Locklears ex-husband Daniel has a new girlfriend; he is 42 and she only 28. I'm pretty sure that none of you raised an eyebrow; i mean there's nothing wrong to have some "lamb-meat" if you are a guy. In that case you are hip cool, and you get tons of respect from your pals. If this would be let's say an older woman and a young hot guy, then the woman has some sort of midlife crisis, she's s bad mother, irresponsible; running around with her boy toy.

It's obvious that her friends are happy that she's moving on, but they also gives her; as they call it " friendly advise".

I am in my mid thirties and i am not accepting the fact that men are allowed to act different than a woman when it comes to sex and relationships and neither should you.

This movie has everything and i have been smiling for about an hour now, and it doesn't get any better than looking at Buckleys sun-tanned hot body and gorgeous smile.

sweet story, nice script, perfect cast. a love story in same rules of genre, not profound but comfortable, using the difference of age as spice and two not bad actors in the lead roles. so, a modern form of fairy tale with clichés and tension moments, lovely landscapes and pleasant atmosphere. nothing new but that could be its fundamental virtue. because, in fact, it is only a film with Heather Locklear and Robert Buckley, with surfing in Hawaii and collection of stereotypes, ideal choice for Sunday evening, not problematic but sweet and nice and decent. so, an easy romantic film with the ordinaries problems and solutions, selfish and dreams. better than many other examples of genre, it is a soft refuge for romantics and the victims of a hard long work day.

A lot better movie than I thought it would be...
jdc-0717126 December 2020
Locklear looks fantastic and Buckley is quite convincing. The plot sounds simple and there aren't many twists, the movie is perhaps classic Showtime stuff, but nevertheless it's spicy enough to make some very interesting points. In fact, beneath the surface and the great Hawaii landscapes, beneath the fun times and the colorful cocktails, it's a social commentary of a movie! Scratch that surface and get ready to give some thought whether it is fair for a man to date a younger woman but not as fair for a woman to date a younger guy...

real nice
Kirpianuscus27 June 2021
I suppose, the comeback of Heather Lcklear represents the main virtue of the film. Because it is a simple story, with some mmoral/ didacticist meanings, not great, surprising or clues to be memorable. It is not exactly a love film but a sort of answer to forms of loneliness, need to live free, sentimental adventures or difference of ages - not so significant in this case -. But , sure, nice. First, for the good Kyle proposed by Robert Buckley , for the cliches around mature woman in love with surf instructor and about few nuances, very useful for give some flavors to the story. Nothing original but , not doubts, real nice.
