Awesome Series Opener
CatLikeThief289010 February 2008
Caught this at the London premiere party was actually lucky enough to be the guy that pressed play! was a brilliant night to, managed to meet most of the cast.

Was a great series opener obviously mainly showing Tony + Maxxie but also filling you in on where the other characters are 6months after series 1 finished. without giving anything away there's a fair few changes and surprises in the episode, look forward to seeing more!

Hope it lives up to the reputation of the first series! First comment i've left yet and hoping this is 10 lines now... just in case... but yeah make sure you catch it on E4 tomorrow!!

Warning: Spoilers
Maxxie dances with two other dancers. The girl takes off her shirt to reveal a see-through nude bra showing her nipples.

On the bus Tony gets scared when a car zooms by and Maxxie comforts him. He has PTSD and memory issues.

We see Effy pull down her pants to use the toilet. She uses the water shooting functions to pleasure herself.

Tony struggles to unzip to use the washroom. An older brown-haired woman comes in and does it for him. He smiles to himself with pleasure. They laugh as Tony urinates.

Jal and another boy come to the door and peer through the side window. They see what looks like a blowjob but is actually the woman helping Tony zip up his pants.

Michelle is at a bar and a guy starts reaching under her skirt.

Tony meets his sister outside the home and is surprised by her hot look. He says she is just a kid. She looks amazing.

Everyone dances inside the building where the rave is happening.

Maxxie starts making out and assuming it will lead to sex with another male.

Maxxie comes home and is told by his dad that Maxxie is everything he has to show for. When he grows up he will understand one day. He thinks Maxxie has been raised fairly well and he wants to take some credit for that.

"It's gotta get bad before it gets good...."
LW-0885428 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Something felt a bit off from the word go with the first episode opening with a big musical/dance number from Maxie. Since when was that what Skins was known and loved for?

Effy looks normal, speaks now, doesn't dress like a goth or like she's off for a party or something, also wears less makeup and looks taller. Tony is a shadow of his former self, and now hanging out with Maxie, Sid and Michelle seemed to have abandoned him, it being "too terrible" to be around him after his accident apparently. The cast all look visibly older, Michelle's hair is shorter, Sid's is longer, etc. The series holds onto it's love of bold contrasting colours when it comes to the clothing. The episode is mostly about explaining what's happened in the past few months, rather than telling it's own story. Maxie has a bit of conflict with his dad and a bit of conflict with the boys on the estate, but it all gets sorted out. Meanwhile Chris, Jal and Anwar just want to party. Since when was Jal so into partying? So much of the energy is missing though from this series, even the characters like Sid and Michelle who do party seem miserable while doing it, as if they're guilty or something. Sid of course misses Cassie who moved away to Scotland while his best friend has also been out of action.. We also see the Stonem parents are struggling a bit with everything they've been through. Some the music is pretty bad too, and so obvious "It's gotta get bad before it gets good, It's gotta get bad before it gets good, It's gotta get bad before it gets good," Weird montage of Tony trying to write, Maxie dancing, Sid watching videos of Cassie in Scotland dancing in a kilt. The rave scene is just a bit weird, it's kind of hard to describe, Jal starts grinding against someone, everyone stares, the camera holds on Sid for too long and for some reason Effy thinks the best place to take her brain damaged brother is a rave. Maxie is then ambushed by the gang from the estate, how did they know he'd run out alone at that exact spot and that exact moment? How does Maxie get away too when surrounded by them? There's just watch too much drum and base Fat Segal music in this one, it just doesn't work for me and dates this pretty bad compared to season 1. The end song though and the ending in general is very sweet and poignant. Maxie is a good friend to Tony in this episode, despite the lack of story or character development.
