Rip off
ninjacsgo23 May 2020
I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 ONLY because it had a different ish storyline still had a storyline to Onward but felt like a complete rip off from the gem stone to 2 brothers on a road trip one is different than the other. But I liked the idea of 2 different species coming together as one that type of storyline but the animation on this movie felt so rushed with the voice acting. Like when the gem stone fell out of his hand it literally just went through and there teeth is like Pericing their lip at some points in the movie it was all just rushed and I feel like they just wanted to produce a copy of Onward. Such a rip off this movie had potential if they changed the story line made the animation a lot better and actually spent time perfecting it all.

Story was good and consistent, little slow at times. Animation little glitchy, somewhat cheap. Voice acting was bad. A rushed, cheaper version of Pixar's Onward.

Another "Mockbuster" by The Asylum
nxatchison19 November 2023
For those who don't know, this was a creation of The Asylum, a production company that rips off popular movies by stealing their plotlines, outlines and character designs and then make transparent changes to make them legally distinct in order to capitalize on their fame. Some people here mentioned that this came out before Onward, which it did, but that's only because Asylum rushes it's productions so they'll put them out before the movie they're ripping off. Make no mistake, it was intended to rip off Onward, just like all their movies. Plotwise, it's not terrible, but it inevitably suffers for it's attempt to capitalize on popular media. Perhaps Asylum should just try making truly original movies?

Money laundering?
martin-busek6 April 2020
Is it possible that someone made this to launder money? I have no other explanation. Why would anyone invest money in a cheap copy of Pixar film?

Is this reality..
AhmedDaReviewer16 September 2020
Just another shameless rip-off of the new Disney Pixar movie 'Onward'.. Holy moly, The Asylum just won't stop ripping off popular movies aren't they..

Animation : The animation is so lazy, uninspired and truly awful at times and the same thing applies to the character design, It's not that bad at first glance but when you see the characters's movement and how their mouths move.. Ugh It's horrendous, And It looks like it was made using Film Source Maker..

Voice acting : The voice acting is the worst thing about this "movie" and that's really saying something.. The elf guy sounds like he doesn't even want to be in the movie and the orc Wreck It Ralph lookin' dude sounds alright I guess (Nothing special, Just the your everyday fat excited unfunny comic relief) and everybody else.. Just awful.. And there's no emotion whatsoever and the character design and animation doesn't really help..

And I just wanna say this.. how did they got Tom Green to be in this movie, Is he that desperate for a paycheck to the point of being in something like this.. It's just so pathetic.. What did I expected from the guy who made 'Freddie Got Fingered'..

Editing : It's not that bad.. It's just mediocre I could say, They do this very weird thing when they transition from scene to scene where they fade out from the first scene to the second one but the character from the first scene is still talking and talking and talking, It's so bad...

Conclusion : Don't waste your time watching this "movie", Don't support them, Don't waste your money on this, Go watch something actually good like 'Onward'

And finally in the words of Chris Stuckmann.. 'This Movie Got Made.. Because People Got Paid'..

This movie is just an Onward wannabe
megaminiman-144172 July 2020
See onward over this because Disney rip-offs are like doppelgängers, The characters are just mutants that came out of the abomination chamber of Area 51 especially the one one with the glass with the TVFilthyFrank2's beard which I want to be beaten by real franku and nothing is good, just go to Disney+ and watch onward okay? Okay.

Not as bad as everyone says
jamesngyen3 July 2020
You can judge me as much as you want, but I really liked this cartoon, because it saved me from the headache that I experienced during recent magnetic storms: the animation is good enough, actors are well chosen, and I laughed a lot from many trash jokes! I really like such thrash films and it's good sometimes to watch them to love better movies that you didn't like before!

Homeward or Onward, Lion king or Kimba the white lion
ddschiffelers9 June 2020
Saw this movie by chance. Still haven't seen Onward because of the pandemic, waiting on the dvd to arrive. I liked Homeward. It was not the best, or greatest. However not disappointed; I have seen worse. I would, and have watched it again. I liked the story line, and how it can reflect and relate to the real-world and its problems right now. So I do see pop-culture values in this. Is it rip off from Onward or is it Lord of the Rings, the hobbit and many other fantasy creature world movies/stories. Even in its simplicities, I liked it. So, yes; animation is better from bigger companies, but I have seen worse, way worse. Never the less; I would let my children watch it. It has morals in the story. I didn't mind the references to Ralph and von Sweets. It made it easier to follow these stereotyped characters. Yes my first thought did connect this to onward. Hard not to it has many similarities. But it came out first. Which was the original and which is the rip off who knows? Lion king vs Kimba the white lion as example. Just because one is a big company, with a bigger budget, better animations (probably). What I can tell there is a difference in story line. Its not a complete rip off. Maybe its like all the animated Big Foot movies that came out around the same time, in the same period, etc. Many of them still tickled my fancy for different reason. It is a reflection of the zeitgeist of the pop-culture! I liked. Don't expect to much and you will enjoy yourself with this movie.

FLAMING PILE OF CRAP!
kobekaigler15 September 2021
The asylum is responsible for making such terrible mockbusters like this! They made Izzie's way home which was a rip off of Disney Pixar's Finding Dory, They made CarGo which was a rip off of Disney Pixar's Cars, They made Trolland which was a rip off of DreamWorks Trolls, They also made Transmorphers which was a huge rip off of Transformers, and other pieces of mockbuster crap! Garbage! The asylum is the worst movie company out there, all of the movies that they produced deserve to be hated, don't watch any of their movies, their mockbusters are completely bad that should've never seen the light of day!

One of the Worst Movies Ever Made
harcool7 August 2022
Onward is a really great movie, with an emotional storyline and strong characters. Then there's this garbage called Homeward, which is one of the worst movies ever made.

Sometimes, when I'm bored, I watch bad movies just to laugh at them, so I watched this.

The animation: Horrific The characters- Ugly AF The story- Ripoff The Movie- 0.1/10 It made me laugh with its stupidy.

My Bad
nogodnomasters1 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Lloyd is the school valedictorian as graduation approaches. Lloyd is an elf and Barl is his orc adopted brother. Barl likes to prank so Lloyd drives him to New Orc City to stay while he graduates to avoid embarrassing pranks. While there, Barl enables Rolf to obtain a powerful gem so he can create a zombie army for world domination.

The film was hit and miss. I liked the hot dog vendor with the British accent. The main characters lacked a good hook. The theme is teamwork, diversity, and to love your adopted brother from a different species.

If you like good voice acting and don't care about animation this is a movie for you
lederman-michael14 December 2020
While I do think this was animated by people from the gaming industry who didn't understand it was a movie. The voice acting was great. The storyline is hackneyed and could have used a few rewrites. I think anyone under the age of eight would love it but let them watch alone so you don't have to suffer through it.

Believe in Magic!
andriy202016 July 2020
Sooner or later, the moment comes when we can no longer enjoy the simple joys of life. Everyday affairs take away the last forces, we become more cynical and rigid, both in relation to others, and to ourselves. Should we blame us? Of course not.

However, I want to remind myself that I need to stop, look around, arrange a short respite, and learn to be a child again. It's easier said than done, however, agree, it is sometimes necessary for all of us. Director Michael Johnson took on the daring task and turned all of the above into a separate setting, into a world that from early times was shrouded in miracles and good-natured magical creatures, where frogs drive cars, Orcs and Elves live in peace, Elves know how to conjure. All this remained on the pages of children's fairy tales and in the puzzles of exciting games. Fortunately, adventurers who have dreamed of collecting two parts of the stone that controls the consciousness, armed themselves with the command and went to fight for dominance from the nation have not yet shifted. So did the evil orc Rolf, and had already begun to create his army, but then... the main characters appeared!

The main character is a guy named Lloyd, whose self-confidence creates a great path to go to the prestigious university. Principal Ashford doubts the guy's talent, but Lloyd is unusually talented, and life is so insidious that it gives him an incredible chance - to reveal his talent, overcome accumulated fears and phobias, and plunge headlong into such a mysterious set of circumstances. A faithful ally, as well as concurrently and a driver, is Lloyd's brother, Barl - a very brave and courageous character, a great lover of pranks and milk. Together they will have to go through many difficulties that they will encounter on their way, but at the same time the journey will temper their character, making them true friends, heroes and saviors of the world. How will this affect Lloyd's success in life? Find out by watching the cartoon...

"Homeward" is a great story, with catchy characters, good morale, funny jokes, catchy drama, charming characters in an unusual setting, and, most importantly, an amazing finale that will not leave anyone indifferent. The main characters of "Homeward" remind us that in the life of any person there is magic, if there are close people nearby... I advise everyone to watch this movie!

P.S.: People, please watch this movie. You don't have to s#oop it (Excuse me). This movie, like other films, just wants to teach us to believe in good, if we are not so bad about different films, we will finally live in peace and good. Peace! ✌

The storyline is about it
kozyranger14 February 2021
To those saying homeward copied onward do some research. About as bad as the media with that assumption junk. The movie premise is good and storyline decent. The voice acting and graphics are what's to be expected from Asylum. It definitely belongs as a YouTube movie if anything. Not on prime. We started watching it and my wife and I both discussed how horrible the put together was while commenting on the storyline. The kids were entranced though which gave us time to discuss other adult topics so it did it's job as a kids movie...

A Cinematic Masterpiece.
tfnrsnmr9 March 2023
This move was nominated for at least 5 Oscars, and won every single time it was nominated the "Best Animated Motion Picture". It also won the best album in an animated movie. Homeward has impacted my life for the better, and I LOVE the part when Barl, the best character ever, says "I said discount wink" ,and the ugly orc says "And I said NO💩" Barl is my favorite character of all times no matter what you put in front of me I will always pick homeward I will pick homeward over my family my son one time said "this movie sucks" so I first slimed him and then i impaled him with a Barl flag if you don't know what that is you better know now because I will come for you the Barl flag is a picture of Barl the best country anyways you are not allowed to have your own opinion on Homeward unless it's good.

Great film!
I didn't like Onward so much. It was boring to me. This film on the other hand kept me interested all the way through. The animation was really good, even better than onward I think. Certainly better than Pixar's other films. Tom Green has a small role in this movie but he is the most recognizable name in the cast, which is a shame because there is a really good story at the heart of the movie. People will claim this is a ripoff of Onward even though it's not. This film came out before Onward, so if anything Onward is a ripoff of Homeward. Tom Green does great voice work. I could easily see him lending his voice to an iconic animated character like Woody or Shrek.
