Get your tissues ready: “The Iron Claw” will be available to stream on Max on May 10.
The A24 biographical sports drama debuted in theaters on Dec. 22 and received critical acclaim. Starring Zac Efron, Sean Durkin’s latest feature is based on the Von Erich wrestling dynasty, who suffered a series of tragic deaths in the family. Efron plays Kevin Von Erich, alongside Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich, Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich, Stanley Simons as Mike Von Erich and Holt McCallany as patriarch Fritz Von Erich. Lily James plays Kevin’s wife Pam Adkisson and Maura Tierney plays matriarch Doris Von Erich.
Efron famously packed on pounds of muscle to portray the professional wrestler. “That necessity to be perfect — it became an obsession,” he told Variety for his December cover story. “It was a singular focus for months. And your life goes out the window during prep.

It’s hard to imagine we’ll get a better soundtrack this year than that for Jane Schoenbruen’s I Saw the TV Glow. Bringing together yeule, Frances Quinlan, Florist, King Woman, Caroline Polachek, Bartees Strange, Jay Som, The Weather Station, L’Rain, Drab Majesty, Sloppy Jane, and more, with Twin Peaks Roadhouse-esque musical performances in the movie, A24 has now announced a May 10 release for the soundtrack, a week after the film’s limited release and a week prior to its wide release. Timed with the announcement, they’ve now unveiled yeule’s cover of Broken Social Scene’s “Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl,” a key motif throughout the film.
I said in my review, “Utterly hypnotic in rhythm from its very first scenes, we hear a haunting motif that will return: Yeule’s cover of Broken Social Scene’s “Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl” as...

High School Musical fans waited a long time for the fourth movie. In 2019, it finally came out – not as fourth installment but as High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Created by Tim Federle, it premiered on Disney+ in 2019.
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
The first season of the TV show didn’t follow the usual storyline from the Disney movies. Instead, it focused on real high school students at East High, where the original High School Musical was filmed.
The original HSM debuted in 2006 and was an instant hit. Disney subsequently released two sequels to the original film. The main leads in the original cast were Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. But, it seems like NBA star Anthony Edwards wants to replace Efron if the remake ever happens.

TikTok has taken the world by storm — skyrocketing in use amid the pandemic as a source of entertainment and human connection — and now it wants to change the way Hollywood markets movies and TV series. The social video platform is hoping to make inroads at its first Sundance Film Festival — and it’s bringing a dozen people from its creators program to Park City.
Catherine Halaby, the head of entertainment for TikTok in North America, says Sundance creates an opportunity to support established and emerging creators and “uplevel their content and their industry savvy and their exposure.” She adds, “We’re really thinking from a content-first perspective and how we can be an accelerant to those creators in their growth on and off platform.”
Two of those creators spoke with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the trip. Joe Aragon, known on TikTok as Cinema Joe, has more than 1 million followers,...

Introduction to The Iron Claw’s Box Office Journey Upon its release, The Iron Claw promised to grapple the attention of moviegoers with its tale of wrestling royalty. However, the film’s journey has been less of a victory lap and more of a stumble at the box office. Let’s delve into why this film, which seemed poised for success, didn’t quite pin down the audience numbers expected. In this true-life tale of TKOs and tragedy, there are dreadful consequences for a bunch of wrestling brothers who are too scared to show their real emotions. Could it change how men cry?
A stigma still looms over men weeping on screen. Tears are associated with weakness, crying something “little girls” do, vulnerability only hinted at rather than expressed freely. The Iron Claw is looking to crack open these outdated notions. In this moving, true-life drama, the tightknit Von Erich brothers are ruled by the steely fist of their father Fritz, played by Holt McCallany, who dictates the shape of their lives as he encourages them to fulfil his own failed dream of becoming the National Wrestling Alliance’s world heavyweight champ.
We meet the siblings in 1980s Texas: eldest Kevin (a frighteningly bulked up Zac Efron), Olympic hopeful Kerry (Jeremy Allen White), kind-hearted David (Harris Dickinson) and sensitive musician...

Chicago – An epic piece of miscasting puts “The Iron Claw” in a sleeper hold it’s never quite able to escape from … the pint sized gaping empty hole at its center has a name, and it is Zac Efron. Efron mistakenly believes that his admittedly drastic physical transformation will do his acting for him. But instead of looking tough, he instead looks distractingly cartoonish, like a He-Man doll come to life.

Portraying the 1970s/80s pro wrestling Von Erich brothers are Efron, Jeremy Allen White (of “The Bear”), Harris Dickinson, and Stanley Simons. Their father Fritz (Holt MacCallany) was a 1950s/60s pro wrestler who never got his own shot at the title, and pushes and pushes his sons to get into the squared circle and bring a title belt home. They compete against each other for their father’s attention and his approval knowing that one slip up...

The outcomes in wrestling might be staged, but the pain is very real. Pro wrestlers grapple, smash, and slam each other around for our amusement, and several documentaries and features already consider the long-term physical and emotional effects of life in the ring. But Sean Durkin’s The Iron Claw might be the best of them, a heartbreaking true story about one of the sport’s biggest dynasties and the curse they sought to climb out from under.
The film begins with Fritz Von Erich (Holt McCallany) in the ring, delivering his famous finishing move – from which the film gets its name – to an opponent as his fans cheer him on. But the majority of the film follows him in his career as a promoter in Texas, where his true iron grip is on his sons, each of whom he trains and berates in order to help them secure what...

Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to …watch another sports-themed movie! Sheesh and people whine about a “glut” of superhero flicks! So far this year we’ve got four or five “sports flicks”, the latest being the soccer comedy Next Goal Wins. Now that’s based on a true story, like most of the others. Oh, and two more true sports films finish out the year on Christmas Day. So, what sets this weekend’s release apart from the others? Well, it’s set in the world of professional wrestling in the “go-go” 1980s. Hmm, sounds like lots of campy, flashy fun. And you’d be a bit mistaken. Mind you, there are chuckles but this true tale is really a tragedy, close in spirit to a Greek one or even Shakespeare, but with spandex and mullets. In the center ring…a fable of a wrestling family dynasty whose patriarch gained...

The film is set in the nineties during the heyday of Gabber culture, a quintessentially Dutch style of beat heavy Electronic music that got famous worldwide. It won't be the last time we will feature Dutch Gabber Culture in this series, as several internationally famous Dutch directors rose to fame with gabber visuals. Taihuttu's first few films were semi-serious drama films, sometimes with a crime edge....

The Iron Claw made its debut in Dallas last week when the premiere was held at the Texas Theater. The drama that centers around the tragic story of the wrestling family, the Von Erichs, has been gathering non-stop praise since receiving a standing ovation from the attending crowd. Additionally, early viewers of the film, comprised of both wrestling and non-wrestling fans, would go on social media to share their emotional reactions to the film. JoBlo’s own Travis Hopson glowed that “This is Sean Durkin’s best film yet” and sported “Great, physically and emotionally demanding performances by Efron, White, and the whole cast.”
However, according to Variety, the film’s star, Zac Efron, feels that only one opinion holds any real weight for him. During a post-screening Q&a, Efron recalled talking with Kevin Von Erich on the night before the film’s premiere, “I was very curious about what he thought of the movie.

Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White grapple with tragedy and triumph as two of the Von Erich brothers in the first look at A24’s wrestling drama The Iron Claw.
The trailer, released on Wednesday, explores how the real-life Erich wrestling empire was built — and brought to the deadly brink — by Jack Adkisson Sr., known professionally as Fritz Von Erich. Efron and White star as Kevin and Kerry, the oldest and middle Von Erich brothers and the favorites of their father.
Both, along with their then-living three siblings, attempt to endure the harsh, unrelenting demands of their influential father as they carry out his vision for the sport, as well as the domestic and international legacy of the pro-wrestling Texan who dominated in the ’60s.
During the more than two-minute trailer, the Von Erich brothers can be seen in and out of the ring, battling opponents and their own demons.

On Sunday, Allstate is trading in its famous Mayhem character for chaos of a different sort.
The big insurance company is testing a sponsorship of a new kind of sporting event that will feature some of Pixar’s best-known animated characters tackling a real-life NFL game. When the Jacksonville Jaguars play the Atlanta Falcons at 9:30 a.m. Sunday from London’s Wembley Stadium, Disney+ and ESPN+ will stream the game in decidedly non-traditional fashion. Pixar’s famous “Toy Story” characters will emulate the real-life gridiron action. And instead of commercials, fans will see football trivia questions from Allstate when the game goes to a break.
Allstate wants to reach the audience that would tune in such as event, says Dave Marsey, the company’s senior vice president of media, but there’s little desire “to disrupt the creativity and just throw a spot in it,” he says. This method...
