Beautiful
uncsbuddy914 September 2021
It's not a perfect storyline, but this movie was heart-wrenching. Perhaps because I've felt my own pain involving a parent and have to work through it, I felt deeply connected to the character. It's such a sweet ending, though perhaps bittersweet.

Feel good movie!
jessieallyne-675813 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
While the story telling fell a little flat, the major point were all hit. Victoria Justice and Midori Francis make a killer tram and believable best friends. And I loved the ending.

As someone who lost their father when I was 27 with much regret and no answers.. this movie almost has me believing that he could be "my junior guardian angel"..

When he passed, we dedicated "God Only Knows" to him.. and when Howie calls Cassie Pumpkin.. I lost it and cried my eyes out since that was my pet name from my dad..

Thank you for a great feel good movie that lifted me up and helped me grieve in a healthy way.

Oh come on!

You made a grown 45yo man cry...are you happy now?

Didn't expect much, thought it would be just some kind of comedy, but somehow it got to me. Not really a memorable movie, but the way the story is played out was very emotional. In a good way, that is.

Quite enjoyable actually...
paul_haakonsen3 September 2021
Granted, as I sat down to watch the 2021 movie "Afterlife of the Party", I wasn't really expecting it to be a movie that would prove all that entertaining to me. Why? Well, solely because the movie's cover/poster looked like something that would appeal to a whole different audience group. But then I read the movie's synopsis, and figured I would give the movie a chance.

And I am glad that I did, because writer Carrie Freedle actually managed to write a rather enjoyable script and storyline here. And "Afterlife of the Party" is the type of movie that puts a smile on your lips and makes you feel good. Yeah, there was definitely some good and positive energies coming from this movie. So thumbs up to director Stephen Herek for this accomplishment.

Sure, the storyline was a bit cheesy if you step back and take a look at it. But it actually made for proper and good entertainment in my book. And I was surprised to find that this wasn't a movie that was specifically aiming at a female audience.

The acting in the movie was good, and not being familiar with neither Victoria Justice or Midori Francis, I must say that I definitely think they were well-cast for their respective roles, and they put on a good performances and brought their characters to life on the screen in very convicing ways.

If you have the opportunity to sit down and watch "Afterlife of the Party", you should definitely do so, because this is a heartfelt movie. I was genuinely entertained by this movie, and it is one that I can warmly recommend you watch.

My rating of "Afterlife of the Party" lands on a six out of ten stars.

Afterlife review..
ts-00002 September 2021
Athough similar topics been addressed, someone dies & has unfinished business on earth.. Despite it being obviously clichéd,it was rather enjoyable & one I'd recommend seeing.

Decent cast,music & cinematography too.

Odd set up
bryannacure8 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I suffered through the beginning hoping it would improve.

It was strange to make Cassie's Birthday the event to highlight that she was a 'selfish' person who just wanted to party. I mean, she is single and 25 and it's her Birthday. Her best friend Lisa wants her to stay home. When Cassie wants to go to her Birthday party Lisa comes but is whining the whole night. We were supposed to feel sorry for Lisa but the way the beginning played out I just thought Lisa looked like the jerk who thought she was better because of her job and her 'chill'. At 25 people are at all different points in their life and that is perfectly ok. If they would've made these characters a decade older than maybe MAYBE it would make more sense (but probably not since they chose the main character's Birthday as the introductory scene). They did a poor job of explaining why Cassie was so bad she couldn't go to heaven.

If you can get past that weirdness there is some good dialogue and introspective moments. I just thought the whole set up stained the rest of the movie for me.

Sluggish in the middle but it works more frequently than not
Sir_AmirSyarif4 September 2021
Sluggish in the middle with what appears to be a lack of material, and it probably goes a little too long as a result, but Stephen Herek's 'Afterlife of the Party' works more frequently than not. It's one of those films where you already know where it's going but it's fine if you just enjoy the ride. Victoria Justice and Midori Francis are perfectly placed in their respective parts, and they deliver strong performances with warm chemistry that bring their characters to life.

Cringey but cute I guess
stamez-049422 September 2021
It's Cassie's birthday but Lisa manages to make it all about herself. I can tell the writers tried to make it seem like Lisa is the victim of the story, but it's really Cassie who gets crucified for wanting to have fun on her own birthday. The acting is decent, the set design and costumes are very lively and colorful, and I'm always happy to see Victoria Justice on-screen but the writing needs a lot of work.

Could have been worse
Movi3DO2 September 2021
Well I'm not gonna lie, Justice is a beauty.

Another original Netflix movie that featured a social media celebrity. Just like He's All That, right off the first scene I already wanted to turn off the screen. It's like the way characters party and interact with each other felt fake and cringe.

However, when the premise kickstarted, I was actually surprised that this movie wasn't completely unbearable. Although not a new concept, the movie still delivered with fairly impactful scenes with good hearts and redemptions. Also, Victoria Justice was not bad at all. She portrayed her character pretty well, gave some decent emotions, and most importantly wasn't annoying.

Although the story was interesting, I did not like the tone. The cast of the movie reflected the less serious tone. I hated this because the content of the story itself should have been serious and contemplating. I didn't really feel most of the emotions and impact of the themes at the end.

Also, not all of the parts of the story worked. The one with the mother in particular was very flat and had inadequate development.

Overall, decent story and acting but filled with unmatched tone. 6/10.

Completely unrealistic and full of plot holes, but a mindless fun time. *minor spoilers*
bradleycarrington4 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So after Victoria Justice dies and comes back to earth to deal with unfinished business, she needs to help 3 people but they can't see or hear her. BUT, she can manipulate the physical world and move objects. So why didn't she just write notes?? She wrote on someone's black board for a dumb message, but she can't write to her dad to let her know she's ok? Also when she rearranges people's apartments, everyone is just ok with that???? Nobody thinks someone broke in?? Is this a normal occurrence for them? If I woke up and there was a trail of stuff left on the floor and things written on my blackboard, or I came back and all my yoga stuff was set up, I'd call the cops. But other than the completely unrealistic reactions, If all your looking for is a silly feel good movie then it's good for that.

The bad reviews...WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS?
sikorski-749793 September 2021
I assume anyone who has a bad thing to say about this movie is just a sad sad human being.

This was cute, quirky, fun, emotional, and makes you really appreciate life and what it has to offer. I felt all warm and fuzzy inside after.

Is it an Oscar worthy film? No...so don't go in with that mindset like these haters obviously did. It's meant to be silly and lighthearted.

So cute I'd watch it again.

A sweet story
angieshrimpton2 September 2021
This is a cute movie. Sweet idea, simple, family friendly plot. Not a masterpiece, but not meant to be. A nice movie to watch if you're looking for something a little heartwarming, a little funny, with some positive morals.

Meh
camille-180085 September 2021
The movie was poorly written and acted, like most Netflix movies. 75% of it was cringe, 20% was boring and 5% was Victoria Justice being absolutely gorgeous. It's not a feel-good movie, it's a movie where you have to skip most parts because of the second-hand embarrassment you inevitably get. The only reason you would like that movie is because you liked Victoria Justice in Victorious, and you were so excited to see her act again, you just brushed over how bad it was. I was excited to see Victoria act again but I couldn't get past how terrible the movie was. The wannabe emotional parts were ruined by the terrible writing. Sorry but it's a big fat no for me. People, imma need you to get some taste.

Well... this was unexpected.
linaljp8 November 2021
So, didn't really expect much going into this movie but I for sure did NOT expect crying, but I did. If a movie can make me cry it's above a six on the rating scale, so I gave it a seven. I honestly don't know why, but it made me feel things. Watch it and see if it surprises you as well. I will at least not be a waste of time.

You know what you sign up for..!
vijaychandrank30 September 2021
This is supposed to be a feel good story with few fantasy elements thrown in. You don't watch it for the complex narrative or logic. In that regard, this movie was okay. Victoria carries this movie on her shoulders, she is cheerful and hilarious at times. However the narrative is slow paced and you feel like movie should have ended at the half way mark. It feels dragged and you don't care after a certain point of time. You can watch it once after a long day just as a chick flick..!

If your looking for a feel good movie with better than average acting you can't go wrong with this one. The main girl was lovely all the way through and it had a good ending. Really enjoyed this movie.

Just plain bad
matthewbrenwick6 September 2021
Acting was brutal. Plot was so predictable it may as well have been a lifetime movie. None of the characters acted like real people...in some movies you struggle with who to root for. Here, everyone was awful and it was more or a struggle to force yourself to care. I'm all for campy silly movies, but my wife and I were both yelling at the screen about how ridiculous everyone was acting for no good reason. Probably one of the worst movies I have ever sat through (although at least that means I was compelled enough to watch the whole thing, I suppose)

From the director of The Mighty Ducks comes this teen fantasy
lisafordeay2 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Aftermath Of The Party is a 2021 teen fantasy starring Victoria Justice (from Nickelodeon's Victorious) as Cassie a free spirited woman who is a social butterfly. One night after coming home from a party, she accidentally hits her head on a toilet seat after collapsing and she later goes to the aftermath by getting help from an angel named Val who guides her on her journey. With just 5 days before Cassie gets a second chance in life she decides to reconcile with her best friend Lisa, her father and her mother.

Will Cassie enter heaven or will she be given a 2nd chance on Earth?.Surprisingly I liked this film and honestly I thought it was better than He's All That. If you like Just Like Heaven,Heaven Can Wait and Drop Dead Diva then you'll like this film.

Boring and shallow
itsallthesametome8 September 2021
Main character is a narcissist. That's not a spoiler, it's the whole point of the film. Now, imagine you spent that last years of your life not paying attention to the needs of the people around you and being completely oblivious of your parents. What do you think would be a meaningful redemption?

Oh, did think I'd give it away? No, that would be a spoiler. Just think for a moment what a narcissist *thinks* are acts of depth and caring. Ya, something like that. Trivial and shallow. It's all good now. All good. You can go to heaven now.

Not bad, but cheesy and predictable
burgerman935 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not exactly in the target audience for this movie - being an adult male. I did enjoy Victoria justice from her nickelodeon shows growing up so figured I would give this a try. She's naturally talented and really commits to her character. There was some heart in the film and it had a warm ending.

The notion of unfinished business is overdone in movies. I didn't think it made sense that the character had to forgive her mother for walking out on her. As for setting up her best friend and father with companionship, that was clever. Sort of mixed feelings with the storyline, but not a bad movie overall.

I thought it was going to be some teeny bopper movie but was shocked at how well it was done, bringing tears and laughter in one movie a rare feat these days.
