Paul has come alone to see Gina. As we saw in the previous installment, Kate decided to stop going with him. She wanted to think about her situation by herself. Gina knew about it, so they get to business right away.

The death of Alex Prince, the pilot, is weighing heavily in his heart. Most of the session stays on this subject. Paul Weston felt bad about the tragic demise of the troubled young man he was trying to help, but whom he felt was too elusive for him to reach. Going to the funeral, and dealing with the people Alex talked about was a big sobering experience.

Gina, who is doing her best to make Paul see things clear, gives Dr. Weston an honest opinion as to what she perceives his problem lies. Paul takes it as another one of her "theories". The session goes into a sour note when Paul brings out Gina's relationship with Charlie. The mention of an unhappy chapter in her life gets the best of Gina, who tells Paul bluntly the reality of that situation. The session ends in bitterness from both sides.

Rodrigo Garcia directed Davey Holmes screenplay. The excellent Dianne Wiest captures our attention when she shows a vulnerable side to the sedated persona we are used to seeing during most of her appearances. Gabriel Byrne shows Paul in all his complexity; he is a tortured man, made even worse by losing a patient he thought he could help better.
