As the episode begins, we see Paul Weston awaking when the alarm goes off. It is clear he has been sleeping in his office because things are obviously not too good with Kate, after she informed him about the way she had cheated on him.
Laura, the anesthesiologist, comes rushing to the office. She is 25 minutes late! Her excuse to the doctor is that she witnessed a dog on the road being hit by a couple of cars. She was the passenger in a taxi. All her efforts to get the driver to go back to the wounded dog, were in vain, plus the traffic at that hour on the busy street where it happened.
Dr. Weston tells her it is not a good excuse; he points to the fact that maybe Laura was going to be late anyhow, the way she explained the situation that she tells her therapist. Paul is trying to be polite about to the woman in pointing out his desire to reduce the time he spends on her. In his conversation with Gina Toll, she even suggested he turn it to another colleague.
The session does not go well. Because of her tardiness, Laura feels cheated of her time. When Paul tells her to stop, she wants to keep on going, but he prevails. As Laura storms out of the office, she runs into Alex, who is bringing a box for Weston. Laura asks him whether he is going to see the therapist, but he has come on the wrong day, his appointment is for the following one. Alex offers to take Laura downtown and the two leave together.
