What would Jesus Eat
nogodnomasters13 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Tommy Ackerman (Tommy Woodard) spends too much time at work because "no deals no meals." His wife Grace (Leigh-Allyn Baker) thinks that a religious family camp would help their marriage. They end up camping with the Sanders family. Eddie Sanders (Eddie James) grates on Tommy. He is very annoying, but not as bad as John Cena in 'Vacation Friends." The families end up in camp competition. Mom worries about teen daughter's sudden interest in a boy. The two men go on a hike and get lost, tied up by Bigfoot hunters.

There is a little something for everyone. The film perhaps spoofs religious folk more than make them look normal. For instance Bigfoot can't exist because he never appears in a Noah's Ark coloring book. Victoria (Gigi Orsillo) is on a WWJE diet while at camp. Overall the film wasn't really that funny relying heavily on slapstick style humor.

Guide: Suitable for all ages.

Run of the Mill

I love the skit guys. They are a class act and super funny in their shorter videos. I actually was loving this movie for about the first 45 mins. Then they get lost in the woods, and then I was lost as well. I thought the movie was really great up until that point. It went from funny family comedy to serious wannabe tear jerker. Sometimes I wish these movies made by a Christian group of people didn't have to always be a "Christian movie". Why can't it just be a movie for good ol movies sake? By the end of it, I felt as though I'd seen movies like it 20 times before. It feels like these guys compromised on what they could have really made just to turn it into a good message. Moms night out is like this film but done better. It doesn't *feel* like a Christian movie, it just feels like a movie. Hopeful these guys make more movies in the future and lean more into the comedy and less into the drama side. Looking forward to their next project!

A movie with an identity crisis
johnromanosbooks22 May 2022
I saw this in the theater with my 5 year old. It was too silly for me and not funny enough for him. Probably best for pre-teens. Still, the jokes didn't land. I imagined them performed by A-list comic actors and could see how the writers might have thought the script would've been funny but there were very few laughs. Also there were times when they tried to be too emotionally dramatic. The movie is set up to imply that you're about to see a slapstick comedy but then they try to get a little too deep. It's awkward when you're constantly late to realizing that what you're watching is suddenly supposed to be serious rather than funny. The balance just isn't there. And is it supposed to be preachy? I would have to assume so based on the fact that the movie wouldn't have to change at all if it omitted the religious aspect. Classic straight man/comic foil structure done much more poorly than most of the similar low budget B movies of the 90s.

Dear Lord
cpclemens11 November 2022
The storyline is an easy one to anticipate because there's a whole bunch of overused tropes in the plot. I wouldn't call it offensive, but it's far off the path from being impressive.

Production quality is good, but that's really the only aspect of this film that allowed me to continue.

With an attempt to merge silly jokes and a little bit of inspiration, it's tough to know if the film is mocking the Christian values the plot is based on, or supporting them. That doesn't matter all that much except besides being a goofy family comedy, it's hard to know if the writer's missed the mark on the comedy because maybe they were focused on something deeper, but....probably not.

It wasn't funny, and wasn't inspiring and some scenes were almost tough to sit through.

Thank you Regal Unlimited
skylermoore19 May 2022
I thank you Regal Unlimited for letting me see this movie with really no cost out of my pocket. I went in with a drink from home, paid 52 cents for the surcharge and that was it. I still feel like I slightly overpaid. This is a fun family flick for the first act and as it gets into the second act becomes a movie full of lessons and tries to become a tear jerking, feel good movie while still trying to maintain that goofy family fun. Unfortunately, none of this works in a any way. It was forced, poorly acted and the entire movie looks like it was shot in 2010 for a kids channel. Which makes me wonder... How this ended up in movie theaters. The director Brian Cates, as far as I can tell this is his debut film and has a history of Christian shorts. So I understood that after about an hour that this was a heavily Christian influenced film which isn't the problem. I have seen some really good Christian films before, but I think our director in question here doesn't quite understand how to write (he's also one of the writers) a full film. Which is probably why he got the the help of Rene Gutteridge who was a writer on one film before, a Christian film. However I think she suffers the same struggles since no where besides the first act seems to know how to hold a nearly 2 hour movie. Which brings me to my next realization, this is apparently a team of people named "The Skit Guys" a Christian skit channel. If you are unaware of this group like I was, and are wondering why there is a flood of 10's and 9's and 8's it's because it is their fans I have to presume. This film is not a hidden gem by any standards and is not something I would ever recommend you go out and pay over a hundred dollars in tickets and snacks at the theater for with your whole family. It is downright disrespectful for taking the screen space away from other films more deserving of it. The reason for a good opening act is because it is basically a rip off of Cheaper by the Dozen and when it does it's own spin going into the second act it becomes a dreadful nightmare. While there are some highlights in this movie and rare instances of decent acting.... practically just Leigh-Allyn Baker... this movie is very weighted towards the terrible scale. The message of the film is something you see coming the second they are lost in the woods and everything here is as predictable as you could imagine. I imagine the budget on this film wasn't much and they probably bought out theaters for their fans or families and will probably recoup the money that was put into this, but there is no way people are going to their local theaters and taking their whole family here unless it's a family who will only pay for these Christian based movies. In fact this movie made me so disinterested that I actually thought about buying a ticket for a new movie and switching theaters. What a horrible mess of a movie that completely misses the point of being a FUN family movie. I give this a 3 only for the Cheaper by the Dozen ripoff to start the first act and for Leigh-Allyn Baker making miserable scenes bearable. Not even worth waiting for streaming, wait for like a Youtube rip and get hammered and maybe there's some enjoyment.

Not funny, very painful & sad
roseliya3 July 2022
Let's just be clear. This movie is not funny. It is not about a family having fun at camp. It is full of pain & sadness & dysfunctional families. Do not expect to be laughing at this movie. Just expect to be sad & disappointed.

Light Hearted Comedy
stevendbeard13 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I saw Family Camp, starring Tommy Woodard-The Glory of Christmas_tv, The Bee Farm_short; Eddie James-The Glory of Christmas_tv, The Bee Farm_short; Leigh_Allyn Baker-Christmas in the Pines, Wish For Christmas and Gigi Orsillo-Still Pitching, Hope For the Holidays.

This is a light hearted comedy by a group called the Skit Guys. Tommy and Eddie are real life childhood friends that make up the Skit Guys that have performed together in comedy sketches for over 2o years. I've never heard of them but I've read that they have a big fan base and this is their first big screen movie. Anyway, Tommy and Leigh_Allyn are a married couple that are going to a church sponsored family camp to reconnect with each other. It seems that one of their biggest problems is that Tommy has been working a lot lately and neglecting his family. When they get to the camp site, they find out that they are roommates with Eddie and Gigi, a couple that are the complete opposite of them. Eddie and Gigi sing songs together-he even plays a harmonica while dancing with the kids-and they have a religious blessing ritual before bedtime. The camp has a contest consisting of different events among the campers and the winner gets a trophy. Guess who has been winning every year? Yep, Eddie and Gigi. On one of the events, Tommy and Eddie get separated from everyone-they get lost, basically-and tensions reach great heights between the two, ranging from hate to friendship and back and forth a lot.

It's rated PG for action and has a running time of 1 hour & 51 minutes.

It's not the funniest comedy I've ever seen but it has it's moments. I wouldn't buy it on DVD but it would be a good rental.

This the worst movie I have seen in years. Horrible acting and a nonexistent script full of religious dribble. Stop already. I'd rather watch anything else.

Pretty Good - Not Amazing - but good
Maxax7771 July 2022
First off - we love The Skit Guys - so that's what brought us here to begin with - we were very much looking forward to, and excited about this movie from the word go!!! As for the movie - it's good - it's very enjoyable - it's fairly predictable, it's very similar to other things you've seen before - it's not amazing, and it's really not overly religious - although that's partly what we came for! Lol - Regardless, it is an enjoyable watch, it's a fun, cute movie - I am super glad they made it - and we hope others will follow. In summary, it's good - not blow you away amazing - but the again - I think that's really all they were going for!

Yikes! This all just felt forced.
CreativePopCulture15 May 2022
Save your money and watch something else. There's plenty of nicer christian movies with better acting in them. The movie stars off okay, even a little funny perhaps, but then it drags on and everything just feels forced. Don't bother.

Hilarious, yet thought provoking message
bryannealdavis13 May 2022
This faith based comedy comes across like an National Lampoon vacation parody. Though I think it's better than any of them. Tommy Woodard, and Eddie James( also known as The Skit Guys), work well together. I loved the movie. Funny and had a good message.

A Decent Family Outing
MikeC1915 May 2022
I have to start my review out by saying that, as someone that has enjoyed The Skit Guys for years, I'm bound to be biased about their first movie. The teaser for this movie played for multiple years on their show, and I wondered how much longer it was going to take.

First off, Tommy and Eddie (the comedians, not the characters) mesh really well together. You know they've been friends in real life because you can sense it in their videos. They're genuine friends for life. Now, imagine one of the characters they're playing is not in the habit of caring much about Church, and the other character is ridiculously obnoxious. Want to see a movie about those two characters that's almost two hours long? Even if in the end they learn to be better people?

Ehhhhhh. Not really.

Neither of the characters they play are someone you want to spend time with, and Leigh-Allyn Baker's character is quite over the top, and annoying.

In the beginning of the movie, there's almost a vibe that's making fun of religion, and the people that partake of Church. It's not heavy handed, but it feels kind of like a little kid giving a middle finger.

It really hurts me to type these words, and maybe you just have to look at the big picture. It's wonderful that Eddie and Tommy (the comedians, not the characters) made a movie. It's great to see them on the big screen.

The characters, the lack of really funny bits, the length, and the up and down heavy parts just didn't mesh for me.

I'm proud of them for being able to make a movie, and all the work that it entailed to make this. I'll give them that.

But as a movie, I can't really recommend it for anybody. I know some people are already giving it a 10 out of 10, and I'm glad they enjoyed it.

I'm not hating on this movie, I'm just saying that by the next movie they (hopefully) make, I hope it's more enjoyable to me.

Terrible
beachy-3843113 May 2022
I don't know what movie those that rated this high saw, but it wasn't the same one I saw. I have seen many movies over the last few years, many of them Christian based. This movie cannot hold a light to any of those movies. That is too bad because the only thing the studios seem to be interested in today is violence and sex. The only good thing I can say about this movie is it does not have violence and sex. The writing was terrible, the acting was terrible and it was way too preachy. They tried to put all the funny stuff near the beginning of the movie and it was just bad. The second part of the movie, with much less forced humor, was better.

We went to see this movie mainly because the studios aren't giving us much family entertainment unless it is a cartoon. Also I had hear a lot of good things about the skit guys. That was all garbage. If you must go to see this movie watch the out takes at the end. They are actually funny and show how much fun the cast had making this movie. The produces should have just stuck with that.

An honest review...SILLY!
LiveLoveLead16 May 2022
This film is super cheesy! It is poorly acted, poorly scripted, not realistic, and has many plot holes. The characters are annoying more than funny, and, to top it off, there is a ridiculous beaver "character" and Bigfoot hunters to just push it over-the-top. I wouldn't say it's completely unwatchable, but barely tolerable, and I definitely wouldn't have paid to see it if I'd of know all this ahead of time. The only plus, is that it is a clean, family film. Younger children may enjoy the goofiness of this film more than the average adult. It's always disappointing when a Christian film is so poorly done. A missed opportunity IMHO. (note: First, I am a Christian, so I'm not an non-religious person bashing a Christian film. Second, after looking up a few of the 10/9 star reviews many are new accounts who have only rated this film, so they obviously were trying to bump up the rating, which is disappointing. Third, my husband gave it a 1 star) I say 4.5 stars. May 2022.

Allergic reactions are never funny.
lestradedoyle8 November 2022
At this point, I don't know how people cannot know someone who has life threatening allergies. And yet Sony Animation films and Family Camp still think that this is funny. Not only was the scene unrealistic of when you need an EpiPen, but it was also offensive and triggering to anyone with allergies. On the plus side, most people probably didn't even make it far enough into the movie to that scene. It is filled with forced awkward humor with very few actual punchlines. A complete ignorance of how chiropractors work, and an all around lowball sense of humor. I could tell they were trying to have a good message, but they should have stuck with the two characters already knowing each other. Much like a good Abbott and Costello film, they needed the chemistry of being friends, not enemies. What a waste of some good talent and beautiful scenery.

Love the Skit Guys
gandlbest26 May 2022
My kids grew up watching the Skit Guys. Their humor with a point has always always been a hit. Their acting and those of every cast member carried the day. While I loved the storyline, the dialog and pace needed to be stronger to hold my husband and youngest daughter's attention. This was not low budget, everyone earned their roles but I think the movie would have been 10 times better if the Skit Guys had written it themselves. My daughter proclaimed, "It's not funny. " While that's too much of a blanket statement, there was some truth to it. But come on, the CGI beaver was adorable and Tommy and Eddie are amazing . They deserve to be in more movies.

Good family movie!
jeffwidor-4472130 May 2022
I love the Skit Guys, Leigh-Allyn Baker, and all the Christian actors in this movie. We do our best to support every Christian movie that comes out. I have to say, this might be the best Christian movie we've seen thus far, but it's not without it's downfalls.

What I liked: The movie is well written and has good cinematography. The comedy doesn't seem forced and prayer is well placed, not just dropped into a scene to fill in a blank. All the actors did a great job with their parts and most (with the exception of what I'll mention in the next segment) were very natural in their delivery. Well done to all the cast members.

What I didn't like: The Sanders family seemed a bit over the top, much like Paul Blart, in the beginning of Mall Cop. I think they could have been written in a way that was less cartoonish and more funny. Cartoonish characters don't work. They have to be believable and relatable.

When I expect a comedy I expect to laugh even if just a little. Film is more about a life lessons and religion than a daft comedy that you might expect.

Great Family Film
dymeksr15 May 2022
James and Woodard's first big picture film had its flaws but there was a sense of family fun and light-heartedness at its core. A little clichè and the acting was not superb by any means but the effort was there. Haven't watched any of The Skit Guys but now I really want to. The best parts in the movie were the skits. Good message and fun for the whole family. Check it out.

Be Prepared To Be Preached At...A Lot!
gardeniapalms24 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The trailer has you thinking this would be just a comedy with 2 families that have nothing in common. While there is still that element, I find it amazing at just how much preaching is interspersed. But it does kinda' mi.ic what we see today: people with many flaws and defects laying in judgement of a family/individuals just trying to cope in today's world. All the pressure being put on the "father figure" to not only provide 100% for his family and helping to raise the kids, but also with the expectation of being "perfect" while the wives don't work to help with things like expenses. There are places in the movie that are funny, but for us it just wasn't often enough for them being funny without going into some preachy aspect trying to make it work.

Eventually the imperfections of the family doing all the judging is revealed to be anything but, however that came along a bit too late in the movie to appreciate it.

Was not expecting this.....
theresalovins-5561313 May 2022
Loved the movie, had no idea it was a Christian based film. I live in Arkansas and early on in the movie of course I think the cinematography is beautiful, then I figure out why, it's location is in the mountain range just south east of where I live, the message was clear, the actors were funny, the plot was good. There were some laugh out loud moments and some thought provoking ones too. Take the time to take the fam to a show, and if you do, make it this one, you won't be sorry. I was pleasantly entertained.

More Lacklustre Christian Propaganda
shoutatthesky2 July 2022
Terrible story, lousy acting and a thinly veiled attempt at luring you in with the promise of comedy only to shove more Christian propaganda down your throat. If that's your cup of tea that's fine but I do wish they would be honest about it.

Terrible Addition to the Christian Movie Genre
gracereeswe21 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There is such a need for quality Christian movies with good messages and I was really hoping this would be better than it was. Just speaking from a literary view the plot was a complete mess. I can occasionally get behind a really out there slapstick comedy but this was just beyond what I can bear. The start of the movie made me think maybe there could be some good but it quickly descended into chaos. The theme seemed intended to be about family and placing more focus on how God desires for a family to be. The way this message was put across by this movie totally made light of other VERY serious issues with some main characters. The most glaring is that of the rival dad Eddie Sanders. I'm shocked at the level of manipulation, pride, and self pitty displayed in this character and then for it to all be seemingly resolved by admitting that he essentially kidnapped Tommy into the woods to make his wife care about him. I can appreciate them for trying to show that as Christians none of us are perfect, but wow if I met people like this in real life, I would not want to be around them. Again, this is a work of fiction, but when making a film that has biblical values there has got to be a better way.
