A sensitive film which depicts the plight of nameless refugees all over the world.

Mülteci is a sad tale of a young innocent dreamer named Shivan. It is true that our film's leading man would appear as more of an idealist artist yet he cannot necessarily be pigeonholed as an ordinary asylum seeker. His life takes a turn for the worst when strange circumstances in his native land force him to become a refugee.Like many others refugees who share his kind of fate,Shivan enters developed nation of Germany in order to escape oppression in his motherland. This is the beginning of a horrendous experience as he comes to know that in the German refugee camp where he has landed there are many helpless souls like him some real, some fake from different nationalities Russians, Chechens,Kurds and Africans.Refugee is a film that provides us with an honest account of the cruel, senseless tragedies which force an ordinary human being to convert himself into a refugee devoid of any kind of respect.Multeci is a meaningful film which tries to ask how refugees are created ? In the film,we are shown how people from developed nations view refugees. All this might appear fine but the real issue to which everybody must draw attention involves the topic whether adequate structures have been created to understand the plight of refugees ? Things take a bad turn for this film when it steers itself towards the melodrama part.According to United Nations there are currently 11.4 million refugees in the world. It is to all these faceless, hapless, nameless and rather unfortunate human beings that Turkish director Reis Celik has dedicated his film.Film critic Lalit Rao spoke to Reis Celik after watching this film during 13th IFFK 2009.
