Movie without a single Ukrainian actor
oxik-2131817 August 2022
If you do the movie about Ukrainians you could hire at least native Ukrainian actors for trustworthiness. Instead we see actors mainly from Balcans and Russia. Acting isn't good.

Could be a really good movie if depicted real Ukrainian immigrants and the soul of the Ukrainian people.

Should be called little Soviet better.

Really Boring

Just didn't keep me entertained especially with the horrible acting. Watch only as a last resort. Although the females in the film were pretty nice to look at.

Not a B-movie, but a C-movie.

Terrible.

Amateur night.

A movie with C-listed actors, who usually would only star in cheaply made television soaps.

No suspsense or thrill whatsover.

Just terrible.

Road to hell

A family escapes the Soviet Union only to find things aren't any easier for them in 1980s New York City. It's an interesting take on the immigrant crime family trope. We've seen the setup before, but Little Ukraine takes us on a path with characters who put themselves in increasingly hot water by making the choice to do the "right thing". It's a wildly pessimistic and nihilistic pov. There is also a healthy bit of skepticism that the story points toward it's main characters and their self professed virtues. In the end there are no heroes. This movie has a pleasant surprise. Good character development. Highly recommended.

Interesting Mob Flick
Preznikoff17 August 2022
Little Ukraine was a recommendation from a friend who loves gangster flicks. Having no expectations and not knowing who the actors were, I watched and was surprised. Turns out, it's a well made, well acted tale of the Russian/Ukrainian mob in NYC. The film could be a first in depicting mob violence perpetuated by non Italian/Sicilians How come this hasn't ben done before? Cast is made up of American and Russian actors, and there are subtitles when Russians speak to Russians, making the film more realistic and authentic.

Tragicomic crime family tale
maousamafromhell1 September 2022
Struck me as more a dark (tragic) comedy than an action film or thriller, which was a pleasant surprise. Good character development had me rooting for people who, despite best intentions, head on terrible paths striving for the American dream. Some good performances and endings caught me by surprise. I'd recommend it. My friend recommended me this film. Having no assumptions and not knowing who the entertainers were, I watched and was shocked. Ends up, it's a very much made, all-around acted story of the Russian/Ukrainian crowd in New York City. I have invested quality energy in this film. This film contains a great deal of unfortunate and pitiful scenes.

Better than expected

I love this movie. It is totally entertaining. I have been spent a quality time with this movie. This movie contains a lots of heart breaking and pathetic scene. This '' Little Ukraine'' movie is about a Jewish immigrant family as they navigate their new found lives in America. The immigrant story is relevant, because we can see this type of straggle in many other stories.

In comparison to most blockbuster action films, the cast of ' Little Ukraine ' does not feature any exceptionally well-known actors - however, I was surprised by its quality. OK if I put the simple story aside then this is a really good flick.

Smart and Suspenseful

Went into this one not knowing what to expect and emerged a fan. An intricate, sophisticated study in generational conflict, Little Ukraine maintains a surprisingly hard emotional edge, while managing to deliver edge of your seat suspense from start to finish. A marvelous and at times heartbreaking distillation of the American dream gone astray, it transcends beyond the usual crime thriller fare with its rich storytelling, gritty realism, and haunting portrayal of the hopes and hurts that carry across generations. An exceedingly fresh take on the American experience that is at once evocative and compelling, this is one you won't want to miss.

Worth A Watch

Stumbled on this gem and decided to give it a watch. Pleasantly surprised! A film that was actually made by artists and story-tellers - for a change. A passion project for sure, give it the time it deserves and get ready for a story you've never heard that will thrill you and haunt you and the same time.

Entertaining
ajaynaidu-6946930 August 2022
It reminds me of 1980s movies with no real plot besides "Little Ukraine ". Sure there is action but no (as in zero) character development or even passable dialog. It isn't a bad movie to throw in on the background but I wouldn't do any more than that. If you are a fan of muscular male upper bodies then this film might get another half-star for you.

It is a story of a Jewish family from Odessa who struggles to remain on the right side of the law at their bathhouse in New York City. The immigrant story is relevant, alive, and dynamic as our characters struggle to grasp their ever-evolving American Dream.

Russians nor Ukranians
carlfelster21 August 2022
I'm a descendent from jewish russians, born in Ukranie before World War I, ans emigrating before 1905. So we jewish immigrants, identify ourselves as russian origin, because that was the nation our grand grandparents had. They spoke Russian and Yddish, hey served in the Czar's Army, and were educated in russian Gymnasiums. The passport issued in Jarkov for my grand grandpa was a russian one.

Even the Russians Ukranians I've met recognized them as part of russian empire first, and SSSR later. Don't know where started this stuff of naming Ukranie as an historical sepparate country, May be it's the peace treaties after wwi with germany and austria.
