They shouldn't have cut down the episodes
hussirocks8 April 2020
I honestly loved this soo much. It's so underrated. I am usually not into slow paced romance but this, this is different man. It keeps you hooked, it puts something new to the table. It's beautiful and a true peice of art. I love it, i love every second of it.

Give it a chance
pettymadz29 January 2021
It's understandable why they cut the number of episodes and why the ratings weren't so good. The beginning is undeniably slow, a little weird, and confusing, and you end up with more questions than answers. I was still kind of lost by around the 4th and 5th episodes.

BUT once you get past that, you realize that this is actually a really well thought out story. It all comes together toward the end. There's a consistent theme of dealing with grief and eventually overcoming it. The visuals (cinematography, locations, colors) are just absolutely beautiful, and the feels from the soundtracks are going to stay with me for a while. The acting is realistic and never over the top.

Overall, I'd give this a rating of 8.5. Recommended for those looking for a meaningful show to watch.

A show about overcoming grief, unrequited love and finding out what's best for you
venusray-3145114 May 2020
Let's just say it's not a story for everyone. I get why some people hate it while some love it. My opinion in rather in the middle. So the thing is it is a slow series. I usually don't like this type of series but this one grabbed my attention. Why? First of all it had beautiful landscape settings and secondly the cast particularly the male and female lead. They really did their jobs well. I feel it was the male lead who was the protagonist of this show. Anyway this show clearly explains the pain of unrequited love and how to overcome it. It also focuses on the grief part. Basically a show dedicated to overcoming grief. It also includes love triangles. Now, what was disappointing about the show. Plot. They could have done so much better with the plot. The conflict at the near end (not the ending) doesn't really make sense and they dragged it. Let's just say a few episodes before the last one was a drag and boring and they could have shortened it. The meet between 2 leads were exaggerated to unbelievable extent. Nevertheless , the ending was the most beautiful ones I have known because k dramas never really gives you good endings. It's always just rushed up or heart wrenching but this show didn't feel like that. They gave a beautiful ending to a beautiful show. O yes, about the reason why it got low ratings because they should have realised all the episodes together . Not one by one because it was a slow drama. Not everyone has the patience to wait for a show day by day when it's a slow drama because then it will feel like a complete drag. I didn't feel like it in most of the parts apart from what I have mentioned (& some parts regarding the supporting charecters) because I binge watched it. Secondly, it is due to the plot. They could have made it more interesting and included several elements. There was nothing to look forward to you know. No particular villan. Forget villian you know how the show was going to end up . A complete predictable series. It became too depressing at some point. You hardly see the charecters laughing. Yet it was warm to watch, relaxing and leaves you with a smile. That's why I watched it. It's not for everyone. Watch 3 episodes ( since it gets a little confusing at the beginning & to get the feel of the show) and if you still don't like it. Leave it. I guess it's then not for you.

Actually i never give review to any drama that i ever watched. But this drama really deserving a review. This drama so fascinating and realistic. And in my opinion, the plot, the developing feelings between the two main roles is beautiful and not too fast. Also, this drama need more support, recognition. This drama really worth to watch.

The Music Speaks To You
PalmBeachG2 November 2022
Interesting concept because music is a language and the piano playing is definitely beautiful in this series and also relaxing so definitely worth watching for that reason alone as the music can speak to you - just sit back and enjoy the songs. The lead actor Jung Hae In is the perfect actor to play the part in this as he is also cool, calm and collected, deep in thought and don't know who else that would have fit the part that well. It was a bit slow going since there was alot of reflection at times. It also took me awhile to figure out who is who as I am not that good with Korean names - I kind of felt like I might need to draw a logic chart and connect the characters to figure out the connections - the person speaker through the device, the FL actress sound engineer, the Male actor who was brought there mysteriously and was attracted by her music walking by, his female older friend that he rents from, the piano player that goes to the studio, the sister of the FL actress and her boarder she sleeps with and it goes on and on. Once I figured out who is who and how they connect especially to the voice on the device then I could get it more and enjoy it more.

The perfect drama
tasnemhako1 May 2020
Everything was perfect in this drama, the characters, music.. Especially the colors. It's a really beautiful art piece to watch. I loved how realistic it was between the main characters, they took their time with their relationship. I highly recommend watching it

Not your typical Kdrama
j_xuen15 May 2020
It is both slow paced and confusing at the beginning, I almost drop it if it's for JHI's sake. You need extra patience at the beginning to fully immerse into the drama. Starting ep 2-3 the story is getting interesing and you will slowly emphatized the unrequited love. And you will find yourself smile, giggle and cry with the characters. The story is beautiful, warm and healing, not to mention the OST and cinematography. *SPOILER* Even the break up scene is beautiful! the only thing I'd complain is TvN shortened the episode.

Good Enough
PennyReviews2 May 2020
" A piece of your mind " had two things nailed, the cinematography and the performances.

The game of light, colours, and nature was just brilliant, with a nostalgic note, beautiful sceneries from Norway, and melodic pieces of classical music and piano to paint the perfect picture of an idyllic and tranquil picture. The pace of the drama was equally perfect for the cinematography, as it was calm, with nice notes of drama here and there.

The performances were excellent from all the actors and actresses in the cast as well.

However, the story was messy and confusing. The script offered little to non information about the cryptic gadget that used a person's voice and character to communicate with the loved ones once that person has passed away. The characters were equally mysterious as well, with some background stories coming through from the flashbacks that the drama offered, but, overall, it was difficult to understand them, know them, and, thus, sympathize with them. The message that, I guess, the drama wanted to pass on, that there is some comfort after a loved one dies, was beautiful. However, the romance was boring, as the characters seemed wrapped up in their past and didn't really invest in the relationship.

So, overall, five out of ten.

UNDERRATED!!!!
ninchenbienchen16 March 2021
First things first:

This is one of the most underrated dramas I've seen so far. I'm pretty sure due to poor ratings and views the drama was cut down to only 12 episodes because no other drama has such an unusual number of episodes. And all of that because the majority was too impatient to give this slow-paced drama a true chance.

It is a bit confusing and odd in the first two episodes and because you don't understand what is going on at first it may also come off as boring.

But in episode 3 (4 at the latest) you start to realize that this show is anything but. It's comforting, warm and I felt like I was on a trip of emotional healing myself instead of just watching the show's characters heal.

This show is like honey on a soar throat. The glue for a broken heart. Wellness for your emotional health.

Definitely one of my faves.

The minus point is for the weird first two episodes and the fact that I didn't quite understand the female lead's behavior in the final episode (probably because the ending was kind of rushed because of the cut down number of episodes and them trying to put everything in one final episode without having the time to explain every action perfectly well).

Disappointing
AJ_McAninch13 May 2020
Though it improves in the final episodes, I agree with critics and fans who point out the series is not as advertised on VIKI and elsewhere. It is not a romantic comedy or fun romp, but a pretty dark melodrama with plot gaps and confusion that are fatal to the narrative. The problems are so severe that the company and network abandoned it, and this is why the series was cut by 4 eps and dropped. I love the leads as much as any fan, but the writing and direction did not serve them well. I look forward to Jung Hae-In making better choices so we can enjoy the warm, charming actor of "While You Were Sleeping" and "Something in the Rain" again.

Well Balanced But Short Series
kkriesch10 July 2020
Having heard that this series didn't do as well as expected on Korean TV, I was prepared for disappointment. Turned out to be a lovely combination of beautifully nuanced performances, well written script, and believable characters and situations. Storyline dealt skillfully with love, friendship, longing, separation, despair, loss, and guilt. I'm a huge fan of K-Dramas (Mr. Sunshine, Korean Odyssey, and Goblin being three of my favs). This program was a nice change of pace from the histrionics and over-the-top characters in some of the unbelievable, but thoroughly enjoyable, Korean programs available for streaming. The piano interludes were also a pleasure. PS, would kill for the AI capability (if it existed) that plays an important role in the emotional progression of the main characters.

For people looking for a poetic journey!!
purvakhirniwal10 August 2020
Go for its simplicity and wonderful story telling with best background score!!! Not recommended for people looking for binge watching, its slow pacing story to be enjoyed over days!... And it's sort of a fantasy having a super-intuitive AI device which brings two broken hearts together. The only problem is with explanation relating the AI device, if you can ignore that one tiny flaw, you will fall in love with the characters and the drama!

Simply Beautiful
ob-801537 February 2021
This is my very first IMDB review and it's all because I want to share to you how beautiful this drama is. The actors, the acting, the cinematography, locations, pacing, framing, THE music, the premise, everything. It deserves to be praised. Though they cut the episodes, it wrapped up beautifully. Just enough.

Certainly not for everyone. But give it a chance, you'll love it.

He keeps getting a bad kdrama
lmerana29 April 2020
My rating is for Jung hae In. He is a very good actor so I hope he will get a more challenging acting projects next time. These last two kdrama does not show much of his acting skills. The story was very slow paced and boring. The plot of the AI was confusing without a background info and the characters seemed were all pathetic for clinging onto their past in a very weird way. Even the romantic line was not fully emphasized when Hae In is a very romantic actor.

Diserve To Watch
pramityaprabhandari24 June 2020
I rarely write a review for a drama. But in my opinion, this drama deserves to be appreciated. This drama sounds slow but all the characters are well explained. This drama is very refreshing because we can get involved in their stories, both those that makes us smile and cry with their characters

Wow!
elsamirre6 September 2022
You know how French movies are slow? The slowest ones come from "le cinema d'art et d'essai". Well this. This here. Is worse. I deserve a medal for watching. Wait. A granted wish. No a miracle. I deserve a miracle.

Not only was this sluggish, it was empty. Nothing, absolutely nothing. Happens. And there's nothing to save the day. No science-fiction: the device is hardly a part of the story. I usually cry whenever an AI is involved. I felt nothing. No chemistry. No "love". It all boils down to repetitive, boring, senseless, state-the-obvious dialogues. If I hear that poem just once again, I'll shoot myself. There was no narrative tension. Most dramas rip me of my sleep. Oh I slept very well, even as I was watching... And so many useless flashbacks. Like, you're gonna forget what happened two minutes earlier! I forwarded like crazy, and stills managed to watch the same scenes several times!

I'm very sorry to write this. I love both leads to bits, I do. But I only watched to the end so I could make an honest review, in case it might keep someone from wasting their time. It's a failure to the very last second. I counted. This is my 83rd Kdrama. And the worse so far. I don't understand the good ratings. I respect them, but I really don't understand.

Heavily_Underated!!!
usharaperera26 January 2022
This is definitely one of the masterpieces and my favourite k-drama.

The first episode was confusing and a little bit complicated to understand that I almost stopped watching this drama. But it definitely picks up and by the end of the last episode all the small points are connected.

This drama has many emotions and the entire cast did an amazing job. Especially Jung Hae-In. He had me hooked from the begining to the end.

Also the soundtrack is amazing. (The "Je te veux variation" track is a great addition.

It was disappointing that the series was cut short due to low viewer ratings.

If you are fan of "Something in the rain" or if you love slow-burn romance, this is definitely a must watch.

Beautiful Concept
lanhammisty10 August 2020
In the beginning of the first episode I was a bit confused yet still drawn to keep watching. I believe it was the music that kept me going. As I furthered into the episode I slowly realized my interest was intensifying immensely.

A Piece of Your Mind is a very beautiful concept for a drama. It delves into the minds of people who are trying to overcome something within their heart and head. And with the use of an AI technological device that can assist a person with such a feat.

In my opinion this drama was absolutely beautiful!!!

Failure is an option
Park_Min7 May 2023
For a slow drama to work you need a tight and controlled storytelling otherwise it will turn into a tasteless picture of which this drama fell into constantly. This notion was only amplified further by poor character writing, poor plot devices, and poor attention to details. The writer must have been utterly delusional thinking she was writing something "good". The final blow was delivered with cutting down the number of episodes. On the bright side, it ended early! Because regardless if it was 16 or 12 episodes, nothing would have changed. Needless to say, It's not recommended and don't be fooled.

Lovely, Warm, Healing Drama
fake_moviestar10 August 2021
What a surprising, underrated gem this was to watch. The atmosphere is so lovely and almost old fashioned in a way. I adored the whole subplot of sound recording and the importance and significance of music. All the characters were so fully fleshed out and had wonderful development. I absolutely loved the leads; Chae Soo-Bin is one of my favorite actresses, she brings a warmth and depth to all her characters and is just so lovely on screen. I adored the character of Ha Won, what a gentle and kind ML, a rarity in both Korean and Western media. I am a sucker for kind ML's, so this really was a winner for me. That being said, unfortunately I didn't feel any romantic chemistry between them, although there was definitely affection and a shy sweetness that was super cute to watch.

Now there were some plot issues (is it really that dangerous in Norway?), and I never really understood the device the ML was developing. This was a bit annoying as I couldn't help but wonder how the devices gained the memories of the people they were recorded after.

Other than those few issues, this drama was so well done. I thought the length was perfect, not too long and the pacing was just right. It is also gorgeously shot, with a lovely (if not overly memorable) soundtrack. Absolutely worth a watch!

Very deep drama about overcoming grief.

I had to watch it a second time to understand that this isn't a drama about love from the start like a thought it was.

This is drama about very deep feelings and how to interpret them.

Feelings of loneliness, and frustration, and bitterness, and sadness, and longing, and regret, and anger, and confusion.....and finally of deep deep love and connection.

Sometimes we don't know why we feel how we feel and it takes time to figure ourselves out and maybe help from others too.

I absolutely fell in love watching the main leads going through this journey of confusion together, leaning on each other to heal and love each other.

I read somewhere that they had to cut the drama short by 4 episodes because it didn't get enough ratings in Korea so they rushed the ending so i did see it that way the second time around. Some of the stories were unfinished and felt inconclusive, such a shame. Regardless, I loved it.
