Warning: Spoilers
I don't know where how to reply to a review here, so giving a review along with clarification A reviewer said that are plot holes, yes there maybe! But what he was confused about was " how was the prank letter correct about the location of the body"

No the killer changed the body to that location after they came across the prank letter!

Engrossing thriller, fast paced, top notch performances n a pulse pounding music.
Fella_shibby26 September 2023
I saw this more than a year ago on Amazon Prime.

Planning to watch its sequel n that's y put up a review now.

I saw the Telugu version n skipped the Hindi version.

A cop with a troubled past n suffering from panic attacks, is tasked with investigating the missing case of an eighteen year girl.

The case gets even more complicated n personal when the cop's girlfriend too goes missing.

As the clock is ticking n pressure builds up from all angles, the cop unearths a shattering mystery which leads upto to a shocking twist.

The lead actor Vishwak Sen gave a brilliant performance and the background music is heart pounding n the editing is crispy.

Murli Sharma as Ibrahim, a local cop gave a memorable performance n his character will stay with u.

Another film that could change TFI forever...

Warning: Spoilers
"Not an edge of the seat thriller"; "Falters at the end", these are some stuff I read in reviews. Some even went on to give ratings like 2.5/3/3.25. I personally feel that it's high time these reviewers should just shut the up. I just want to know what's there competence to rate and review a film. I too watched great cinema just like any other movie buff. And I feel that Telugu Cinema needs someone (reviewer) who appreciates and pushes new talent rather than simply watching the film and being so critical about it. Atleast then, it would be encouraging for new filmmakers out there to come up with new/original content. When Vishwak Sen quoted "Dr Sailesh Kolanu is the smartest director he might ever work with", I thought he is exaggerating to promote his film. But it turns out to be true. Despite being a debut film, the director wrote the smartest Telugu screenplay I've ever seen. It was so smart that your suspicious keeps Shifting from one character to another and convinces you that anybody could possibly be the criminal. It's very difficult for a filmmaker to establish such curiousity in the viewer right from the beginning and to carry it till the end. The very objective of the director of any thriller film is to make the audience to make them suspect any character he wants to suspect. And the director excels in this. You don't suspect them just because the moment makes you so, but also due to the background of the character that was shown to you (deliberately by the filmmaker to divert your suspicion at a later point). One can understand that a lot of research had been on how a homicide detective would investigate a case. And the Director deserves an applause for this. Because the film depicts the entire investigation process in detail. Each and every character is written so carefully and is perfectly casted as well. Be it Vishwak Sen, Murali Sharma or Bhanu Chander and other supporting actors.

An intense, dark and gripping thriller
baladeepsingamsetti1 March 2020
After a long time a dark thriller had been out in the Telugu film industry. The director had perfectly crafted out the story for the opening of intense thriller universe. He didn't manipulate things too much. Entire screenplay was gripping and also with less manipulations of story. There wasn't a feel of confusion and all I felt was thrill. Even the actors gave out their best performances. Overall a must watch movie

Decent but..
fernando46923 April 2020
This movie could have been great thriller but ended up no so to be.I was quite impressed with the performance of the cast and in particularly Vishwak Sen's bold performance. everything went well until 1 hour and 40 minutes. The move is a gripping until the mentioned time but then the director find bit difficult to pin the murders on credible convict. Felt like he was running out of time. As you already see the synopsis of the movie about solving murder mystery, and I must say I was quite in to a the movie before the last 20 minutes begin. But then disappointed the way it ended. Such a waste after all, which reminds me sort of GOT (But not that bad). Anyway you can still enjoy the film as it provides decent story, more over gripping one and half hour and good performance from not so called star cast. Definitely it hinted a sequel is on the way. Hope they would not do the same mistake by having weak end. Good luck!

A Movie Worth Watching, Especially if You're A Fan of Crime Dramas !!!
cs_rahul_prasad13 August 2021
Dr. Sailesh Kolanu clearly intends for HIT to turn into a franchise, and it's made clear from the get-go when he seems to be in no hurry to reveal anything much about his characters. Crime dramas are a genre that are hard to pull off and to the director's credit, he manages to do it well with minimal drawbacks. What's amazing is how the viewer is pushed into the world Vikram inhabits from the word go, especially when it's one that's suffocating and filled with so much pain.

A girl goes missing at Outer Ring Road and her parents are worried out of their mind. The last person to see her is a cop (Murli Sharma) who had left her at the place she was last seen after she assures him that help is arriving. Another cop, Vikram (Vishwak Sen), is on a much-needed leave, trying to cope with the pain in his life, when he receives a distressing call. How Vikram embroils himself in the case of the missing girl, and what does it have to do with the call he received makes up the tale.

Vikram works for the HIT department against his therapist and girlfriend Neha's (Ruhani Sharma) wishes. Due to the nature of his job, he's prone to massive panic attacks that cause him to black out sometimes, be paranoid that his suspects will escape his grasp whenever they're out of his view and fire in any shape, view or form, seems to be a massive trigger. It's clear he's in pain due to a past trauma, which is why his shabby appearance and short-temperedness is tolerated even by his superiors. And while he has a keen sense of smell and deduction skills that make him good at his job, the question remains throughout the film, if his shortcomings will ever let him solve cases in peace.

The director does a good job of letting us know enough about Vikram's trauma to care and stay invested throughout the film. His love for Neha and the pain deeply embedded in him are shown in bits and pieces, via flashes of his memories. And this narrative is a particularly bold choice, seeing as how it's not something that might sit well with all viewers. But the film takes its own sweet time delivering the conclusion and while it's laudable that it is not something you can guess, the way the climax is hurried through doesn't really work. But the less said about the plot the better, it's something that needs to be watched on-screen.

Apart from director Sailesh, Vivek Sagar, S Mani Kandan and Garry BH should be lauded for doing a stupendous job with setting up the environment Vikram inhabits. The music, cinematography and editing stay true to the genre; bringing through the pain, suffocation and desperation through the sound and visuals. The detailing is spectacular, so are the way some scenes are shot, with subtlety without being too on-the-nose. The film also breaks stereotypes in the most subtle of ways.

Vishwak Sen's performance on the other hand doesn't always leave the intended impact. His dialogue delivery, especially ones with scenes featuring Ruhani, seems off. But he nails the scenes where he's being sarcastic and funny -when he's calling out a professor for moral policing, in particular. His acting too wavers, seeming off in certain scenes, while he just nails it in other ones, and there just seems to be no in-between when it comes to it. Ruhani Sharma is surprisingly plain okay in the few scenes she has, while Hari Teja shines. Murli Sharma does well with what he's offered.

HIT is definitely not a film that will keep you on the edge of the seat, but it keeps you engaged enough to know more. With a tighter narrative, better direction and performances, this truly could've been something else. But that's not to say, that the film doesn't work, because it does, especially with the massive cliff-hanger at the end promising a sequel worth watching.

An extended episode of the CID series with a few loops here and there, but is worth your watch.
SAMTHEBESTEST1 May 2022
HIT : The First Case (2020) - Brief Review :

An extended episode of the CID series with a few loops here and there, but is worth your watch. When I used to watch the CID serial in my childhood, I used to love that suspense. But now that I've seen over a thousand classics from around the world, I've realised how common all of the CID stuff was. You start with one missing case and then get forensics, friends, and family members involved in it, only to learn more thrilling facts later. At the end, it's some close friends whom you never suspected. HIT is a perfect extended episode of this CID formula, but not completely flawless. An officer of the 'Homicide Intervention Team' who frequently suffers from panic attacks does everything in his power to rescue a woman who went missing. An 18-year-old girl is missing, but nobody really cares because it has got nothing to do with our protagonist. Then, after two months, his GF disappears, and he gets involved in both the cases, mainly to find his GF. Several surprising revelations come to rescue this mystery thriller from multiple old cliches. It still makes for a good, definite watch for you. Let me tell you a couple of those typical loops. A hero must have a competitor and a jealous colleague, no matter if he hasn't got anything to do with the storyline. Two, the best one I suppose, the villain/side villain, can easily kill a supporting character from a long distance, but he would never kill the hero, even if he's close to him. HIT has those gone-dated cliches that might irritate you - if you have seen a lot of global cinema. For regional or, to some extent, Indian audiences, it won't make much difference. Some of the dialogues, scenes, and action scenes are shot childishly, but otherwise it's a fine film throughout. Overall, a nice, engaging thriller with decent performances, good writing and fine direction. Let's see how the Hindi remake turns out to be.

RATING - 7/10*

It can be thrilled but there is no thriller.
rathoresinghvijay29 May 2022
No, if u think this is thrilled movie then sorry for this. Bcz in the last you can find that the murderer was connected with a girl "lata". I mean... director connect a complete suspens with a girl whose character are no means in the complete case besides the director have many characters in whole movie. The lead role tortured every connected person but he can't find anything. For connection, The director connect a girl "lata" and a small scooter repairing shop scene. That means all other suspects are useless like her boyfriend, sheela and others. And it shows that 75% time of complete movie is useless, useless suspects, useless serching, useless gethared data and useless torture.

An investigation thriller that barely loses its initial momentum! [+73%]
arungeorge132 April 2020
Hit makes it to the list of Telugu films that veer away from the usual masala potboilers that the industry has, by now, been cursed with. The writing here is razor-sharp (for an investigation thriller) and had the big reveal not been a bit of a dampener (it all adds up well but the 'motive' lacks the punch we expect), Hit would make it to my list of top thrillers in recent memory. Sailesh Kolanu, thank you for the edge-of-the-seat thrills, bruv!

For a directorial debut, his work is spot on. Something as mundane as the proceedings at a CID office is executed to great effect by the budding writer-director. The outcome is a riveting, sophisticated thriller that never lets go of its pulsating hold on viewers until the very last shot (and the announcement of a sequel in 2021). What primarily works for Hit lies in the way an array of major characters have been written into the movie. The protagonist is emotionally flawed, the reason evidenced in the first scene (but to be explained in the sequel, maybe?) and significant characters around him such as his superior, his subordinate Rohit, his other colleagues (one's a cliched, professionally jealous one), and his girlfriend Neha carry just about enough detailing for us to want to know more.

The pacing of the investigation bits is pitch-perfect, never losing momentum. I love how forensics plays a greater role in this film than most other investigative thrillers. The choice of colors (by cinematographer S Manikanda) suits the film so well. Vivek Sagar's background score doesn't take undue advantage of its thriller niche - it's relatively calmer and pops up only when it really needs to. Yet, the tension is built up solidly.

Vishwak Sen does a fantastic job of playing Vikram, the PTSD-suffering cop who is shaken by recurring 'fiery' imagery (both in his head and in real-time). Where Hit also fetches brownie points is in the fact that it doesn't focus on the ghastliness of crimes against women; the focus here is more on creating a complicated set of interconnected events. Also, there's no spoon-feeding. You better be a discerning viewer to be able to grasp where the dots start to subconsciously connect.

I definitely recommend the film to all thriller fanatics. Even if the climax isn't one of its strongest points, Hit is every bit worth checking out. And I'll be looking forward to the sequel!

Just Average.
best-review23 November 2020
The film revolves around a conventional plot concerning missing individuals and the subsequent investigations conducted by the police. One peculiar aspect is the involvement of the homicide department in missing persons cases, rather than focusing on apprehending murderers in actual homicide cases.

While the screenplay manages to sustain intrigue for a while, the climax falls short, lacking the desired impact.

It is worth acknowledging that all the actors deliver commendable performances, bringing their characters to life. The production values are impressive, contributing to a visually appealing experience. The cinematography, although decent, fails to stand out. On the other hand, the music proves to be the standout aspect, elevating the film with its extraordinary compositions. The editing, while satisfactory, could have been more refined.

Overall, the film showcases some positive elements, including strong performances and solid production values, but falls short in certain areas such as the storyline and climax execution.

Wow .. This surely HIT the Bullseye!!! Awesome!!

#sanjuzzreviews Movie Review : HIT ( The First Case) - Telugu movie streaming on Prime Video

HIT: The First Case is a 2020 Telugu language Mystery thriller film directed by newcomer Sailesh Kolanu and stars Vishwak Sen Naidu and Ruhani Sharma in lead roles.

The film starts off with the disappearance of a young girl Preeti after her car breaks down on the highway . The case is handled by a cop, Vishwak who is plagued with painful memories of his past due to which he suffers panic attacks frequently. Two months after the disappearance of the girl , Vishwak's girlfriend disappears in a similar manner . Are the two cases linked somehow. Will Vishwak be able to subdue the demons of his traumatic past , race against time and save the girls is what forms the rest of the movie.

The film which released on Feb 28th 2020 is a great watch. Awesome direction by the debutante director Sailesh. A lot of work has gone into the detailing and it shows on screen. Casting is perfect & the narrative flows well.

The makers are planning a franchise with the end setting the tone for " The Second Case" which should be out in 2021.

Verdict: Though I do not understand Telugu, the film is available with english subtitles. No problems in understanding what is going on. Must watch if you like Whodunit's. Go watch it !! I enjoyed it, so will you !!!!

Why are there so many vulgar scenes
atj-1932023 February 2021
This movie is good overall. Acting is good and everything is gripping...but they added useless kissing scenes and vulgar scenes that ruins it in my opinion. It's not even a love scene there, it's just him visualizing parts of his past. And all of those are vulgar stuff that's shown. They should've removed all those scenes, then movie would've been much better

Average movie with amateur story line
SatiagoManez12 April 2020
The movie is executed well except the opening 30 minutes which is very vague trying to expose the characters, especially the protagonist. The cast in itself look so immature and artifical in those performances. The overall story line itself is not so well thought. It looks like the production of the movie was too rushed before script could be refined, it was worth a short film not a feature film. Towards the climax there was a compulsion to pick up the loose ends left before to conclude, too much coincidence theory!
