You need only read the most potted of biographies to know that Luis Miranda is an accomplished man: a plucky, never-say-die Puerto Rican immigrant who arrived in New York as a teen and rose to become a major political consultant, acting as a special advisor to New York mayor Ed Koch, steering campaigns for the likes of Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer, founding the Hispanic Federation and strategic consulting firm the MirRam Group, as well as heading up multiple charity initiatives to raise funds for his disaster-struck homeland. A devoted, misty-eyed documentary portrait of the 66-year-old, “Siempre, Luis” covers all this in brief, but is also aware that most regard its subject’s most notable accomplishment as a less direct one: namely, fathering a certain actor-composer-playwright named Lin-Manuel, and thus ensuring that outsize Broadway phenomenon “Hamilton” would eventually enter the world.

With Lovecraft Country still providing HBO and HBO Max with its horror content through October, the streamer is looking elsewhere for its spooky season offerings. HBO Max’s new releases for October 2020 feature some truly awesome horror library titles.
Jordan Peele’s Us, John Carpenter’s The Thing, and David Fincher’s Se7en all arrive on Oct. 1. That alone should be enough to last you through spooky season. And if it doesn’t, It: Chapter Two is right there as well. October is also a big month for Batman and Superman with Man of Steel arriving on Oct. 1 along with a whole of animated specials dropping that same day.
In relation to the library titles, this isn’t HBO Max’s strongest month from an original perspective. But there is still plenty to like here. The West Wing election special arrives on Oct. 15. That will be followed by David Byrne...

"Doing everything we can becomes the job." HBO has released an official trailer for a documentary film titled Siempre, Luis, which originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Welcoming audiences into the man's passionate, patriotic, family-focused world, Siempre, Luis ultimately tells the story of a proud American whose dedication to community and fatherhood has rendered him an unstoppable force of nature. A story that embodies the tenacity and passion of the American Dream, the doc is a portrait of the pioneering activist Luis A. Miranda Jr. Luis is a decades-long fighter for Latino communities, a key player in the New York City and national political arena, and a loving father of three – including the award-winning composer, lyricist and actor, Lin-Manuel Miranda. This looks like more than just your average biopic - a story about kindness & courage, and someone still doing so much to make a difference nowadays.

The star of the show was arguably Hulu, and at time of writing buyers of all shapes and sizes had laid out in the region of $80m all told.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is having a busy Sundance. The prolific playwright is in Park City, Utah this week as the interview subject of three documentaries — “Siempre, Luis,” “We Are Freestyle Love Supreme” and “Mucho Mucho Amour” — all premiering at this year’s film festival.
Miranda’s indie movie tour is only the beginning of his foray into films. His musical sensation “Hamilton” will hopefully be getting the movie treatment “sooner rather than later,” Miranda said at Variety’s Studio at the Sundance Film Festival. “Hamilton” director Thomas Kail filmed the stage show before the original Broadway cast members began to depart.
“What I’m most excited about [is] you all have that friend that is like, ‘I saw it with the original cast.’ We’re stealing that brag from everyone because you’re all going to see it with the original cast,” Miranda said. “We’re just trying to find the right time to do it.

When it comes to big acquisition deals for independent movies, Sundance is the room where it happens, to borrow a lyric from “Hamilton.” So it’s a lucky coincidence that Lin-Manuel Miranda will be a guest at this year’s film festival.
For the first time, Miranda will hit the slopes in Park City, Utah, to rub shoulders with film aficionados and industry executives. He’s attending the festival as an interview subject in three documentaries, including “Siempre, Luis,” about his father, Luis Miranda, a dogged political consultant who helped organize a series of “Hamilton” performances in Puerto Rico to raise funds for hurricane relief efforts.
“We now have video proof that I’m the slacker of my family,” Miranda says with a laugh. The documentary, directed by John James, took three years to make. Miranda considers himself a fan of the movie — and the genre. “What’s exciting is...
