An excellent set up to the series finale
Sleepin_Dragon9 August 2015
Well, this starts of in an almost surreal way, the main team are characterised in an even more extreme way, turns out it's an appeal for Police 5, the TV Ray is extremely funny. None of the team are impressed. The story surrounds robbery of Charity raiser Gil Hollis, amazingly played by the normally straight laced Matthew Macfadyen, who looks extraordinary with a big moustache. The clown once again taunts Alex, claiming that he is going to take someone, who is going to die, and who is this mysterious clown? We get a great little radio cameo appearance from Terry Wogan who dedicates Kate Bush's The man with the child in his eyes to Gil. One hilarious bit when the team name a lot of groups new kids on the block, take that, east 17, backstreet boys busted, all in one hit, really funny. We get to see that Gil has OCD, and the team have zero understanding of what it is. The Scooby Doo gag at the end is hilarious, worth pointing out that Luigi is brilliant throughout the series too. The ending is quite sad and tough, but beautifully acted. Who else sees the clown? This excellent episode sets up the finale to series 1 nicely.

Warning: Spoilers
This is being replayed in 2017 The setting is suitably surreal and begins with the 'Police 5' reconstruction - with fat overweight actors impersonating our Heroes. Can easily be seen more than once. Altho ten years old - it portrays a different time where there in no terrorism and the Afro Caribbean street gangs don't carried knives

Sheer fantasy of course - to be watched on a winter's evening Even Matthew McF's Brummie accent is acceptable

A bit of Nookie
xmasdaybaby19663 October 2020
The series has improved in the second half. The humour, the music, the clothes and some strong drana in this episode. This episode has a credible Brummie accent and a bit of Nookie too. Those that have stuck with the series have been well-rewarded. Gently does it.

Finding the fun again
studioAT4 September 2017
There have been some distinctly average episodes in this first series of the 'Life on Mars' spin-off, but in the second half of its run it seems to have regained a sense of fun, and this episode is a good example.

Yes it tells quite a dark story, but there are lots of fun and funny moments along the way to lighten some of the tone.

I thought this episode and the last were a vast improvement.
