Final arrangements
jotix10020 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
A comedy about funerals? It has been done before to good results. No wonder the director, Michel Delgado, whose first film this is, found it appropriate to bring some light moments to the finality, and the arrangements most of us find ourselves having to chose how we want a loved one to be treated after they have departed this world.

Gervais Bron, a funeral director, aspires to a higher position in a firm that deals in these matters. Alas, he does not have the image the executives want. Therefore, the job goes to the much younger Gabriel, who will have to do his training under the supervision of Gervais. To complicate matters, Gabriel, eager to show he can be an asset to the company sells an expensive funeral to the grandfather of Claire, the girl he likes.

The film is mildly funny. Michel Placido directs his first film without breaking new ground. The comedy shows Didier Bourdon as Gervais and Marc-Andre Bourdin playing Gabriel. The supporting roles include Gerard Depardieu and Marthe Keller, both actors of some stature in the French cinema, playing the eccentric parents of Gabriel. Bernice Bejo makes an attractive Claire.
