Well done! Give this one a shot.
ReelReviewer91119 February 2022
This film is definitely a step above other familiar themed low budget films. What a pleasant surprise! Love watching acting that feels like you're watching ordinary people living their struggle. This one definitely succeeds at that.

Don't overthink and it will pull you in til the end. Definitely worth a one time watch.

What a Showing by Kali Reis!
Megan_Shida18 February 2022
For anything you might have to say badly about this film, the lead Kali Reis was so good! I found there to be some issues with stiffness in the writing and acting, but otherwise the story really touched an important issue and the sincere performance of Kali Reis really made this movie impactful. Because of the subject matter, it can be hard to watch but I give the director credit for the real and gritty tone he used to present this needed story.

Pretty decent indie flick
brentn12 February 2022
I was engaged the entire time. This film does a great job setting up the characters and story knowing that anyone wanting to watch this would be an independent thinker. The atmosphere is stark and bleak and exactly what it should be when dealing with this kind of subject matter. The movie was made this way intentionally and is its greatest strength. The violence is abrupt, the twists were clever enough and the ending was as realistic, in terms of how things would actually happen if anyone tried to be a vigilante. The only problems I had were that the main character, although did well in her acting debut, was very wooden when she had to deliver some of her dialogue. I also found that Kevin Dunn was under utilized and there could have been a bit more action. This felt like Winter's Bone but obviously missing the star power.

6.5/10.

Unboxed Warning: Spoilers
There's a slew of films currently playing about missing/kidnapped children. One wonders what kind of epidemic America has going for it - the prolific guns and the kidnapping of girls. Certainly not good days for the US of A.

Anyway - this film is also of the same theme - a fairly straightforward tale of a missing girl and the search for her b y her sister.

Unusual is that the main protoganist is a girl and a boxer at that so that takes care of the physical part the role demands.

Kali Reis is a stark presence swaggering on screen physically. She is not asked to emote much which suits her just fine.

She does a fine job of the action and there is not much more to fill up the movie. It is quite spare on the storytelling bits, just getting right into it with the missing girl.

The trail that leads her to the abductors is given a short shrift and shown their hand early on. The rest is a propulsive plot that carries the film forwards as Kali tries to get at the missing girl.

While straightforward, worth a dekko.

literal and figurative gut punch
ferguson-610 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Greetings again from the darkness. One tragic event can certainly derail a person's life. It's happened in plenty of other movies, often resulting in an engaging story of redemption. There is also nothing new about a friend or family member out to save a loved one who is in peril. Director Josef Kubata Wladyka co-wrote this script with the film's star, Kali Reis, and though it covers some familiar territory from those two premises, it's done so in a way that feels fresh and different and important.

Ms. Reis is an accomplished boxer, having held the title in two weight classes. Her heritage is part Native and part Cape Verdean, and she brings a personal perspective into the story of her character. Kaylee Uppeshau (Ms. Reis) slogs through days waiting tables at a greasy spoon, and sleeps at night in a women's shelter, with a razor blade tucked in her cheek for protection. She was previously known in the ring as "KO", but for the past two years her goal in life is to track down her younger sister Weeta (Mainaku Borrerro), who was abducted while walking home from Kaylee's gym. The girls' mother (played by Kimberly Guerrero, whom "Seinfeld" fans will remember as Winona) has moved on by running group therapy sessions for others who are grieving. She also makes it clear that Weeta was the favored daughter.

Kaylee gets a lead on her sister, and soon finds herself drawn into the world of sex-trafficking. It's a dangerous situation as she goes up against local scumbags Bobby (Daniel Henshell) and his father Willie (Kevin Dunn), the white men who have a market for native girls. But Kaylee is not the typical victim. She has an intensity to match her body tattoos and multiple piercings (cheeks, nose, tongue, ears, naval), and the physical training to hold her own.

It's her acting debut, and Ms. Reis excels as Kaylee in this thriller. She creates an engrossing character who is tough, yet relatable. Ms. Reis is intense, naturalistic, and believable. It's quite a first-time performance, and she keeps us engaged all the way through. We are never really sure if Kaylee is after justice or closure, or whether she truly holds out hope that Weeta is still alive. The subject of Indigenous women and girls being abducted is also the focus of Martin Scorsese's upcoming film KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, based on the superb book by David Grann. Whereas that film will look at history, filmmaker Wladyka and Reis make it personal and deliver a literal and figurative gut-punch.

In theaters and VOD beginning February 11, 2022.

A good indie film
angusking-3999815 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A good indie film. Once again showing a very ugly side of the USA - sex trafficking. If I had a daughter I'd be frightened to let her out on her own .. up until about 30 years old .. jesus! The film is a story about a native american older sister who goes searching for her younger sibling, who's been kidnapped and sex-trafficked. Ultimately she's unsuccessful. It includes some seriously nasty people and a grim conclusion. :: major spoiler :: she dies (I think) at the end. Her death is not quite confirmed so I suppose she could be saved for a sequel to continue her search. That's unlikely with this type of indie film. It entertained anyway.

Not bad
olcayozfirat22 March 2022
Drama/thriller from 2021. It's about a female boxer's struggle to save her brother from trafficking men. The life of the lead role is a mess.

It's a great revenge movie. There is no nudity in the movie, but there is a sexual scene.

Catch this good one!!
li090442627 May 2022
"Catch the Fair One" has a similar plot as other films about the search for a loved one who is kidnapped to be a sex slave. But there is a big difference in this one, a case linked to the disappearance of a native indigenous girl and its environment. As the police don't investigate the case, her old sister, a boxer infiltrates the world of girls' kidnapping and prostitution. Kali Reis as the boxer Kaylee is impressive, she personifies her character with such magnificence and emotion that it feels like we are watching not fiction but a documentary. There are some issues with the scripts but overall, director Josef Kubota Wladyka managed to capture and convey the feeling of helplessness that native people still experience and suffer today.

Very solid thriller and acting A+
HorrorFan696914 February 2022
I thought it will be an ok way to kill 2 hours. Instead it's a really good film. Slow built till the end. Very interesting plot and acting is A+. Really a good Indie thriller reminds me of 90s films. For that I recommend. If you like to have a hero as main actress that we know why she does what she need to do.

What?
michelleoverton11 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Not a very good movie; so many unnecessary moves it was dumb. Actors did alright but the whole point of show was getting trafficked sister back but movie all over place! I liked that a large amount of Native American actors were casted. No way things would go down like they did.

surprise, surprise...
ops-5253513 February 2022
My friends serching the fleemarket for low budget movies en core, a subnoxious, hide and seek thriller hovering over the topic of the american human meat market, or human trafficking said in a more civilized manner.

A little slow at first, but as you head on into the arachnoidic meshwork of the criminal underworld, you will be rewarded for your patience, and a few really good shock jolts youll have too, but the heavy weightest motion of emotions though is revenge, relentless revenge and female human fury at its most shivering and shattering level. There will be blood i heard somebody say, and cheving shaving blades like candy is the smallest challenge for this searching pandora, with a box filled with surprises.

I do love the filmatographic efforts , the glow and sharpedged lightsettings do lead you into the matter.even though there are some sound wrecked moments here and there its a high quality product for such a low budget movie.

Actress in the lead do good, wouldnt like to do the rumba tet a tet with her in the shadows of the dark, great pick and do act very credible. Story and plot has been done similarly in many other flicks but a surprise this was for the grumpy old man. Some gore and raw violence there are so if youre nifty about that then be aware. For the rest of you lot its a recommend.

Slow
ropelawshiel21 February 2022
If you are after a good revenge action film, I would give this a miss; nothing in that respect happens for about an hour, then it does pick up and seems a bit rushed. As a drama, it is well made great acting from a cast I did not know apart from one brief cameo at the end. It is more real revenge, not your Equalizer or John Wick type of film.

Great story and timely, too
ChallengeFilms9 October 2021
An ex-boxer (real life boxer Kali Reis) deliberately enters the world of sex trafficking in order to find her younger sister.

You won't even want to munch on your popcorn watching this, it's that good. The acting is great, and it's wonderful to see a story about native Indians being portrayed by them.

It's stark and bleak- filmed in the dead of winter in a northeast city, (Buffalo) yet the cold of the land matches the cold of the heartless men who treat trafficking woman as simply a business- capture them, drug them, photograph them, "advertise" them and sell them. Next.

On a "social message" side, in these current times of seeing the nation focus on one female white girl go missing, this movie discloses how hundreds of indigenous girls have gone missing to which our nation shrugs. It may not change the world,, but it can help enlighten it.

Terrible ending
clairetait-6397327 June 2023
Absolutely brilliant film! But shockingly dreadful ending! Feel like I wasted 1.5 hrs of my life, it's as if the company ran out of money and couldn't finish the film. It wasn't even a cliff hanger, it's literally as if it hasn't finished! Such a shame when it was such a good gripping film! The actors are brilliant! It keeps you on the ensure of your seat, very dramatic. You sit at the end and think what the!!! What has just happened? Why would it just end there! It makes no sense to just end the way it did. It would have been given 10 out of 10 but the ending truley soils it I would not watch.

Execllet film
davidpucknell18 April 2022
Normally a 9 but considering a cheap film has to be a 10.

Not really a revenge film more a big sister looking out for a little sister.... I didn't find the pace slow and a good climax and ending.

Kali Reis is excellent and uprising she isn't an actor at all. God knows why this film isn't more successful, will definitely see any thing else she's in.

A bit intense at the end, but overall full of annoying overuse scene! Not recommended!
kwenchow4 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film start with a female boxer training with her trainer, and she prepare went into the fighting arena scene! As turnout, this film is about a female boxer "Kaylee" need to save her sister "Weeta" from the taken of a villain "Willie"! Entire film full of boring conversation, and annoying overuse scene! Such as, overuse of the walking scene, overuse of the searching scene, overuse of the arguing scene, overuse of the calling names scene, overuse of the changing camera angle scene, overuse of the flashbacks scene, overuse of the training scene, overuse of the bathing scene, overuse of the running scene, overuse of the driving scene, and overuse of the staring scene! Make the film unwatchable! At the end, Kaylee fail to save Weeta, and died! That's it! Another disappointed film!

Wow! so deserving of a 10 and the lead actress is incredible
diaaasky25 December 2023
I do hope we see more from the lead actress in the future. Not only do she has the acting chops but she is jacked and quite beautiful.

Marvel, DC cast her in one of your movies. You won't regret it.

Anyways the movie is about a woman who is messed up from the disappearance of her sister. We are shown the turmoil and emotional toll on herself and mom.

Later we see what the sister is willing to do to find her younger sister. Part of the movie shows human trafficking and perhaps how Native women are targeted as well.

I won't tell everything. Because this movie moves and the pacing is great and the scenes are never boring. Its a movie that you will watch because its so interesting and there is some action and lots of unexpected twists that's not outrageous and so vital to the movie.

I highly recommend this movie. I watch it with my family and a nitpicky family member and he was engross with the movie as well.

10/10 great movie.

Kali Reis wrote and starred
susiewtsn1 March 2024
I had just finished watching Kali Reis star with Jodie Foster in True Detective - Night Country so when I saw this on Hulu, I decided to try it. The topic of missing indigenous women has been done many times, but never so hard hitting and heartbreaking as in this movie. Boxing was apt, as this movie was a gut punch and hopefully will gain more attention for human trafficking of all kinds. When I saw she had written the script, too, I was even more impressed by this actor. The hole left in families by stolen family members is a black one and here it is faced head on with an all-or-nothing passionate attack. Brava to Kali Reis!

Love it.
quiptown51426 March 2024
The word intense doesn't start to describe this film as we get a brief but telling look into the world of sex trafficking and the hardship it causes when a love one goes missing. The story was gripping throughout the movie. The acting was great the characters interesting. Even the the setting for the movie was great. Kali Reis did a terrific job she was on point in every scene very believable. This movie was more than a cut above previous movies I have seen surrounding the subject of sex trafficking. I would say for some the movie might be a tad too much but if you love movies this is a movie you must watch. I highly recommend Catch the Fair One.

Catch this excellent one
searchanddestroy-123 April 2024
It would be some kind of 8MM - 1999 - where Nick Cage was in desperate search for a missing girl. Both movies are dark, gloom, gritty, depressing, disturbing, exactly what I crave for, not for the squeamish nor the good whole family. It is close t real life. No anti hero here, and I can accept that ONCE MORE, the lead character is a female. After all, since one decade now, you have tons of those films and series. I also like the sub characters here, it doesn't only focus on the main character. It's also unusual. For instance the villain in his home, with his kids.... I already saw this in EQUALIZER 2. Terrific ending, far far far from Hollywood standards.
