2019 is finally coming to an end, taking with it a decade that saw major changes in the way people watched television. But before we close the book on 2019 and dive into 2020, let’s look back at how the final year of the 2010s treated our favorite cable channels by employing the most hallowed form of year-end content — the ranked list.
For the fourth year in a row, Fox News Channel finished 2019 as the most-watched network on cable, according to Nielsen’s Live + Same Day ratings. That claim holds true for both primetime (8 p.m. to 11 p.m.) and total day (6 a.m. to 6 a.m.). As a matter of fact, Fox News is currently enjoying its most-watched year ever in primetime.
ESPN was again runner-up in primetime, but MSNBC bumped the world’s most expensive cable channel to third in total day rankings.

Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” debuted on Netflix on Thanksgiving Eve 2019, and #FilmTwitter was immediately in agreement: The movie was clearly designed to be seen at home (except it should really be seen on the big screen), the digital de-aging effects look much better on TV (except that now they’re more jarring) and it’s absolutely Ok to pause the film and watch it in chapters (except that you are spitting on the filmmakers by doing so).
No one’s having this conversation about, say, how or whether to watch “Avengers Endgame” on Disney+, because of course Scorsese produced “The Irishman” with Netflix’s backing, and certainly kept in mind that an overwhelming majority of viewers would indeed be watching the film on their home theaters.
The “How to Watch ‘The Irishman'” debate is just the latest incarnation of an ongoing rhubarb among moviegoers. No doubt film nerds...

Come Monday, some Roku users will have no choice but to upgrade if they want to continue streaming Netflix.
Several older Roku models will, starting on Dec. 2, no longer be supported by Netflix. “Technical limitations” will prevent Netflix from supporting the older devices, a Netflix rep told CNET earlier this month.
A Roku rep told Bgr the following devices will be impacted: Roku Sd (N1050); Roku HD-xr (N1101); Roku HD; and Roku Xd.

This shouldn’t come as a complete surprise to the viewers with those devices, though, as Roku has sent alerts, notifying customers their devices may soon be unable to stream Netflix.
Still, if you have one of those devices, and you were looking forward to checking out Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman,” you might want to crank it out this weekend.

Alessia Cara’s The Pains of Growing will be released on November 30th. The Canadian singer-songwriter also announced the official track list for her sophomore album.
Cara’s new LP is entirely self-penned, with a few self-produced songs as well. She began previewing her more introspective lyrics with the single “Growing Pains” over the summer and has been seen almost exclusively in an oversized suit, meant to represent the idea of struggling to enter adulthood.

Alessia Cara, winner of this year’s Best New Artist Grammy, has dropped a video for “Growing Pains,” the first single from her forthcoming sophomore album, which is tentatively scheduled for release later this year.
The 21-year-old Canadian’s star has risen significantly since the 2015 release of her platinum debut album “Know It All,” which spawned the hits “Here” and “Scars to Your Beautiful.” She has been an in-demand guest vocalist as well, appearing with Khalid on Logic’s suicide-awareness song “1-800-273-8255” — which the three performed at the Grammy Awards ceremony in January — as well as “Stay,” her hit collaboration with Zedd.
According to the announcement, on “Growing Pains” the singer “grapples with feelings of confusion and isolation, searches for peace, and ultimately finds joy in the face of her rapid-fire transition from childhood to becoming a young adult and an artist.” That is reflected in the metaphoric video,...
